Community Patch - How To Install

@Trethard , what version is this? The latest beta from April? If the latest beta, then I think you are missing the 7th component.

If you tried EUI before and now reinstalled with VP without EUI, your old EUI could still be in the Steam folder. It might be causing problems, delete it (check my previous post, it contains the path to it).

And do you have all DLCs (G&K, BNW, Ancient Wonders, the extra leaders - sorry don't remember which ones)?

Hi vyyt. I started by trying the versions available through the autoinstaller link (7-29-1 and 7-17-3) and. Initially I did install the EUI thing, but have have since done a complete clean and reinstall of Civ5. I've also tried the most recent beta and a couple of old versions, all with the same results. I'm wondering if I missed a string somewhere from the initial EUI install, but I've tried to reinstall, and manually instal EUI and can't seem to get it working properly. I found your post earlier to hunt down the EUI folder to make sure I had vamosed it, but it still isnt loading properly... bad times. I can, however, get a version from 2017 to work (7-27), but its horrendously out of date.

Hmmm, that's strange. Even stranger that the old VP worked for you.
a) Do you have all the DLCs? (you probably do, if you made the old version of VP work)
b) When using the autoinstaller, I suppose you let it do it its stuff and you did NOT delete any folders manually, correct?
c) Do you run the game under your Administrator account in Windows? Have you tried turning off the antivirus/firewall during the installation? I am wondering if they could be interfering somehow.
d) Have you changed your installation of Steam? When you reinstalled Civ5, I suppose you did so to the same location ... ? The user Frozen in Ice had some strange leftovers in the Windows registry from a previous Steam install (to a different location) - see our conversation on the previous page.

Either way, I'd try a clean VP install again, so at least we are all on the same page for the trouble-shooting. I'd:
1) Manually run a search for "UI_bc1" (= EUI) on all your drives. Delete all instances you find.
2) Manually run a search for "Community Patch". Delete all instances of all the Vox Populi components in the same location.
3) Move all other (= non VP) mods from the MODs folder to a backup folder
4) Unsubscribe from all mods on Steam (- you can favorite them, so that you can redownload them later)
5) Go up 1 level from the MODs folder in the file structure and manually delete the "cache" and "ModUserData" folder (the game will create new ones)
6) Download the latest beta (4-17) and run the autoinstaller from you administrator account with the antivirus and firewall off
7) Choose the non-EUI variant during the install (- let's try the simpler setup first)

Question, as I have switched over to using Manjaro Linux 20.01 XCFE.

Just doing an inquiry to whether or not as a DLL mod, this will work on that environment as I have tried so far and it hasn't.

I have no experience with Linux, but DLL is a Windows thing, so I suppose VP will not run on Linux as is.

BUT, you should be able to make it work with some emulator. If I remember correctly @ryanmusante runs VP on Linux. Can you help, @ryanmusante? Yoroshiku

I used the latest beta installer 4-17, I chose the full vox populi with EUI and this is what I got:

No icons above the units, commands don't show up and after settling the city with the "B" key I can't choose production

@10101100

1) Looks like a bad install. I would normally say that EUI landed in a wrong location, because your Steam is installed in a non-standard folder. I would then direct you to recent posts on the previous page of this install thread where I tell people with a similar problem to look for the EUI folder = ui_bc1 on drive C and then move it to the correct (= non-standard) location where you installed Steam (the path would be analogical to the one where you would find ui_bc1 on drive C). But I will not say any of these, because ...

2) Why is there an extra Spearman and worker?? Or are you starting in a later era?

3) You are not a 1st poster here, so I suppose you have installed VP successfully before. Was it without EUI before? What is different this time?

4) JFYI, the little promotion icons above units come from the Promotion Flags EUI mod, it is not part of VP.

I'd delete cache and ModUserData and re-run the autoinstaller.

I removed all the mods, installed again and it worked, weird because I wasnt using EUI before now. Previously I just manually installed cbp and cbo without EUI

Hi. I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I'm in need of assistance if anyone would be so kind. I've run into a problem where every time I declare war on someone, regardless of whether it's a city-state or a civ, my game crashes to desktop once I leave the diplomacy screen.

It seems that the Community Balance Overhaul mod is the culprit. I can play the game perfectly fine without it, but the problem persists even if it and Community Patch are the only mods enabled.

I've tried the version of Vox Populi from April as well as the new patch and the problem persists.

Any help would be appreciated!

Can you screenshot your mod list?

Can you screenshot your mod list?
I feel like a screenshot would be less effective than just listing them out.

I have the Vox Populi mods that come through using the installer, no EUI; Ingame Editor; all of the JFD Civilization mods, the entire collection (mods that add new civs; doesn't make a difference if I have all of them enabled, one of them enabled, or none of them enabled, trust me, I've tried); Really Advanced Setup; and Tectonic Map Script.

Hope that helps!

Do I understand correctly that you had the same problem even when you disabled all the JFD civs? Have you deleted the cache folder after doing so?

I'd delete the cache, ModUserData, move everything except VoxPopuli out of the MODS folder (to a backup folder) and reinstall the April version (which was well tested and crash free) from the autoinstaller.

Edit: I don't think it is the case here, but even just having a certain deactivated mod in the MODS folder can cause (different) problems. But for the debugging purposes, it's better to start with the minimal setup, eliminating all outer distractions

We've had many people reporting mod problems when they didn't activate certain mods from the VP package (most of the times 6a/b/c). Just making sure you aren't one of them.

That's interesting. I keep (5) More Luxuries, (7a) Promotion Icons for VP, and (7b) UI - Promotion Tree for VP disabled because they break my game in other ways. I believe at one point I was able to play fine before regardless, but it definitely could've been the case that I never tried to declare war, I had always had war declared on me. I wonder if it makes a difference.

I'll try moving the mods out and deleting the cache and whatnot and get back to you.

I'll also try both without 5, 7a, and 7b, and with them, and tell you what happens.

Thanks for the help, btw. I really appreciate it!

Upon deleting the cache and ModUserData folders and moving my mods out and back in, I can now have every single one of my mods activated and I encounter zero problems. Everything works great.

I'm not sure what happened, but I'm glad you guys know what's going on. Thanks, I really appreciate it!

I do have one more thing I'd like to ask though. Ingame Editor would never actually work for me, and still seems to have trouble. I get this error message that says: "Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS\(6b) Community Balance Overhaul - Compatibility Files (No-EUI)\LUA\InfoTooltipInclude.lua:535: bad argument #2 to '?' (Key must be a type of 'number' or 'string'.)

Any idea what that's about?

Yup, you have a bad install on IGE.
Unsub from IGE on Steam. Delete IGE from mods folder. Clear cache and ModUserdata ( again, yes it's a PITA).
Now, go into your Steam Librairy, right click on Civ V, go to local files, and then click on "verify file integrity. It will take a few mins to do it's thing.
Once that's done, to back and sub to IGE and let it DL.
You should be good after that.

I'm newly back to Civ5 and wanted to try out playing with Vox Populi, but I run into all kinds of different problems. First I tried to run with what seemed the full range of VP mods from the version I chose (1+2+3+4+6b+7), but the game spawned without any luxury resources on the map. Now I've started a game with only 1+2+3 which does have luxuries, but I have a number of different crashes, in my current game I played up to Medieval era, but then when I DoW Japan, the game immediately crashes while in the diplomacy screen. Are there any tips on how to fix this?

Edit > Ok found out the luxury thing was because 6b requires More Resources to run. Will try to see if activating all helps stability.

@kaspergm, what about the (5) More Luxuries? It wasn't available to activate in the mods screen? If so, then I suspect that you already had the stand alone version in the mods folder. Delete it, unsubscribe from it from Steam. This should probably be enough, but to be 100% sure, delete VP, cache folder and reinstall VP from the autoinstaller again. I'd recommend the April version, it seems that some people experience crashes in the very early game with the newest June one.

Edit: this should be the download link for the April version (on my cell, so don't sue me if I got it wrong):

Thank you, yes I had a stand-alone version of More Luxuries subscribed from way back, which would explain the confusion. Thanx, I'll try to get it done.
