PC Gamer UK has revealed that Relic is working on CoH2 for release in 2013.

Personally I am much more interested in the Men of War series as I dislike the typical RTS style but CoH2 should bring in plenty of cash for Relic and THQ and I am sure it will be a great game.

It sounds like it will have some great improvements too, from the magazine:
"The flame effect gets even better as Matthew directs them (the flamer squad) towards the farmhouse itself. The building catches fire, the snow on its roof begins to melt, and its walls collapse as the Germans inside flee."

"This snow has depth, will spread procedurally, and will compact when rolled over by tanks." "tanks can get bogged down in deep snowdrifts, infantry can use it to flank. It provides a blanket of cover for the land's actual terrain"

"Matthew orders his Soviet soldiers to a wall at the back of the farmhouse. Like everything, the wall can be destroyed, but before the Germans have the chance, Matthew orders his men to vault over it."

After retreating his Soviet soldiers from a German MG squad pinning them... "Another machinegun is waiting for them. This one is operated by fellow Soviet soldiers. They glumly open fire, carrying out Order 227 and killing their own."

"Relic calls this 'True Sight'"..."You can only see what your soldiers see. That means that you never know what might be on the other side of the next building, beyond the treeline, or even beyond the smoke of your own smoke

Spoiler :
I'd still rather see Homeworld 3 though :p

Relic better not F this one up

Spoiler :
Dont make me come over there prince scamp

I really didn't like the small maps and unit sizes.

The 4x4 maps are pretty big actually.

I hope they take their time to make it good. Homeworld 3 wouldn't be bad either like Maniacal said.

If COH2 is just COH but on the eastern front I'll be ecstatic. Also they better keep modding capabilities alive since the world builder and corsix extended the life of the game for me by years.

Yeah Kursk and what not, would be good.

PC Gamer leaked this:

It’s set on the Russian front. You control the Soviets in their fight to repel the invading Nazi force.
Snow plays a major part on the battlefield.
The cover system has been revamped.

This is the only screenshot I can find of the game.

Iam wondering if they will adopt the DOW2 multiplayer or stick with pure COH vanilla multiplayer ?
While I do like random drops, leveling, special stuff which have a nice MMO vibe to it all, I also like the near perfect balance of the vanilla style.

What will relic do ....

I honestly don't see what exactly is revolutionary about True Sight from what I can find out about it. Previously released games have had fog of war that is sight-dependent, considers terrain and obstacles, is variable for different units, is impacted by smoke and weather... maybe their approach does all that a little better, but I'm not hearing any revolutionary ideas.

So I'm confused. On the one hand, I'm sure the CoH2 devs know the RTS genre quite well, and they obviously feel they've made a breakthrough with this True Sight. On the other hand, nothing they're saying about it sounds like a breakthrough, leading me to wonder if I'm missing something.

Yeah from the bit I played (I didn't get to play much because it crashed, again) it just seemed like CoH1 with some new stuff. No way to change or even look at keybinds, no way to change graphics settings from in-game (main menu only), far too large and busy of a UI, far too zoomed in view that is claustrophobic and has a rather poor FoV that is painful to play with, and I can't figure out how to turn the camera despite mashing every button I could.

Having not played the first one, I'm having a blast with the beta. Nice find Maniacal.

Is there an NDA with the Beta?

So Sega apparently changed the pre-order bonuses after they took over Relic from THQ; the TF2 hats remain, but the free Warhammer game has been replaced by some multiplayer skins and a mini-campaign.

Apparently those who pre-ordered before the change get the Warhammer game as a bonus though, so no real harm done.
