The Industrial Era!
---------------------

1450
City #6 is ready to be settled. I should have done this earlier, however I was planning on flipping one or two of Justinian's cities. This however, has ended in failure.

His city near my statue-of-zeus city shows no signs of struggling for some time now. Though, there was another city from Justinian in the north-west close to my capital. I had it right on the verge of doing revolt-checks. But sadly, suddenly his cities are now skyrocketing in culture, and it looks like I wont be able to ever flip any of them. That's just how it goes sometimes.

In any case, I'll just have to found my six'th city, and that will be the end of that.

Note: You can see 2 cottages within my borders near Ham. These oviously were built by him, and then taken over by my own culture, despite his city has a STAR. Notice I even have to destroy one of them just to get that oil hooked up. Another example of why cottages aren't always so hot, even once they turn into towns.

Wow, Byz. has so much culture now, he even caused my Zeus city to suddenly revolt. I'm going to have to garrison it up now just to prevent it from flipping. Ammazing how things can go in this game. 2/3 of the game you are just about to flip your enemy's cities to you, and in the last bit, those same weak cities are now trying to flip you over to their side!

Babylonian authorities are rumored to have captured a fugitive fleeing from Greek justice. No confirmation is available.

In other news, we pop a G-Spy. And to be honest, I belive settling him even at this stage is better than building the SY.

GE pops in my big food city. Currently I'm working on the NP there.

* And remember that GA artist from earlier? I use him now to start a golden age, because I want to build the 3GD and there is a chance I may lose it because big-giant Asoka has had plastics before I got there. Also, I want to beeline to computers before he gets there too.

The internet ready for completion.

Despite the tremendous size of Frederick, & Asoka, I feel very confident at this stage, even with my 6-city empire. Riding out the win should be easy, fun, and relaxing.

Note: I'm reseraching Robotics next. Not because I want mech-infantry, but I want to unlock the SE as fast as possible.

And the internet gains us --
Useless theology
Useless divine right
Useless military tradition
Medicine
Flight
Useless horseback riding
Useless military science

(at least we didn't get useless monotheism)!

Whoops, that just bit me in the ass, now he hops onto Robotics too, I was hoping he'd tech for something else!

I notice that you generally farm your grassland and workshop your plains. Wouldn't it be better to do this the other way around? This is normally identical, but will give you an extra +1 hammer per grassland tile in a Golden Age...?

Working 4h instead of 5h tiles? Going for minimum hammers to complete or just a bit of weed?

I notice that you generally farm your grassland and workshop your plains. Wouldn't it be better to do this the other way around? This is normally identical, but will give you an extra +1 hammer per grassland tile in a Golden Age...?

People like to specialize cities. I like to specialize tiles. By dedicating tiles to maximum production, and maximum food I can benefit my city even more. When I want to grow the maximum very fast, all my food specific tiles are maximums. When I want to focus on production, I hit the tiles geared for max prod. I can even starve the city down in an emergency, but quickly recouperate by toggling back on the food maxed tiles.

I hope I made that understandable. Also with golden ages, I'd rather have food-max tiles because I get double GPPs and want to run as many GP slots as possible.
Working 4h instead of 5h tiles? Going for minimum hammers to complete or just a bit of weed?

It was the weed. As I mentioned earlier, I started to really slack off because of my huge lead, and start to just try to speed through everything without paying much detail to micromanagement anymore. And things actually did get quite worse as a result.

Anyhow, I may have taken this shot just before re-toggling the mines to the workshops, so that may not be the case here. But nevertheless, I did start to get more and more sloppy as the game progressed. And it did catch up with me.

I think we are all guilty of this. You know when you have that FEELING you are going to win no matter what, but you have done that win so many times before you don't really care to focus on it?

Now this is something you don't see every day. My food-rich/hammer-poor city is actually working on a space ship component!

Also note I"m researching stealth now, despite I have 100% of the slider on culture.
Well, let me explain.

We have all the techs required for a space-ship win. So I don't feel like wasting any cent on any other techs right now. But something has caught up to me. Asoka has taken the space-ship lead in production, and Frederik is right up there. Due to my laziness, and ego, I just didn't keep a close eye on them. I also didn't pick my tech paths carefully, and only really found out something was very wrong when I had just missed out on being the first to tech fusion. This cost me a free GE --> and an extra golden age. ARgggh. What else can go wrong?

Maybe I shouldn't have given Frederic so many techs just recently. Actually, I was hoping he'd catch up to Asoka and that way I'd use the internet to better performance. Though I was not careful in WHAT techs I'd give or other factors that I should have. And now I ended up with even more problems. I could have also eeeked out some more tech speed by not being lazy but.... eventually it's caught up with us here.

While my capital is a monster space-component producer, it doesn't look like I can catch up fast enough because Asoka has so much done already.

Well, desperate times, calls for desperate measures. Now you see one of those very rare times where running a civilian actually is the optimal case again. Note, they are all giving us 3 beakers each, (not that we care at this stage), but we do get +1h. All my engineers and priests are maxed out, so the next order is citizens. These guys are more important now than any other Great persons.

Note: Unfortunately, since A. Wat is obsolete the priests are only giving half their hammer production.

I did just now rush and build one workshop as you can see, I also plan on making another workshop on the next tile.

I should have planned this all ahead of time... but I didn't and you see what happens? Suddenly we are in panic mode. Newbies usually play by the seat-of-their-pants, but we should have known better.

1923
Could things possibly go any more wrong? No...
Ohh but wait... yes it does!

Someone.. it doesn't matter who... but SOMEONE recently sabotaged all casing production in my NP city.

What does this mean? This means, I won't be able to launch my ship with full casings, unless I really want to risk coming in second. Don't believe me?

Take a look:

Spoiler :
1923.JPG

Frederkic has even topped Asoka now, and has only one unit left to do, but he DOES have the tech for it, and he had the tech a round earlier already at least.

I simply can't wait, I MUST launch now, and take the 80% gambit instead of waiting around. This is one off those only few times where launching with incomplete casings seems optimal. Now lets pray we don't lose on a 4-to-1 against shot.

Things sure went to hell in a hand-basket fast, didn't they? At LEAST we are launching at full speed. Or we'd probably be doomed here.

Note: The Launch save is here.

Hmm, can anything else go wrong?
Ummm, UN vote just came in... Ham missed his victory by less than a hundred. Good thing I didn't misclick here and do something else stupid

* Uh oh.. Asoka just launches. Phew, that was a close one. Now the only thing I have to worry about now (besides a bad dice roll), is losing the capital to something stupid yet again. Feel free to over-garrison it. We can lose any other city without a care in the world right now, BUT the capital.

* GE pops in NP city, but it's useless to us now.

Frederick finally finishes his last unit and launches. He's doomed even if by chance something happiness to mine, as Asoka is next in the que.

Alright, because waiting through all this and doing nothing is boring, I decided to make a bunch of armour units, and draft a bunch of mech-infantry. And now, we use our spies to knock down city walls and attack Justinian!

5 turns to victory!

Note: Justin has a TON of units trolling about.

Oooops. I just did yet something else stupid. I declared war, and realized again too late that the SPY-BUG instantly ejected my spies. ARgghhhh. Ok I got so pissed off I just decided to suicide a bunch of my units into the fully operational culture-walls defence anyway,.. It's no real worry, the city will fall, minus a bunch of extra casualties.

BTW, we capture the obsolete apostolic palace..hagia sophia, and something else which I can't quite remember.
