I used 7zip to extract multiple rar files en masse to a location on c:\program files\..., but nothing showed up. Where did all the files go?

(32 bit WinVista, btw.)

Edit:
Spoiler game related :
Also, every time I delete and re-install one of the default base neighborhoods in sims 2 and EP's, (Pleasantview, Verona, Belladonna, etc), the storybook thingy is completely blank, no pics or text, and it is rather irritating, tbh. How do I get it to appear in whole like it should, and appear in whole each and every single time I re-install a default neighborhood as a base neighborhood? (In other words, how do I stop this bs from happening, and get this every time I re-install a main neighborhood instead?

Edit 2: I'm also experiencing frequent bouts of unresponsiveness on one of my laptop's USB ports, in which everything attached to it, including hubs and their connections, just stop responding for 10 seconds on a regular basis, especially during gaming sessions. Any causes?

EDIT: This problem has now expanded to a second USB outlet on my laptop.

I may have posted something similar before, but.. I've got a 7 year old macbook pro that's probably due for replacement soon. It's been great with no issues, several battery exchanges excluded.

Since the batteries in the new macbook pros seems to be glued and largely unchangeable
Teardowns of the new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro models reveal lots of shiny technology, but with the machines following the construction lead of the MacBook Air, it’s no surprise to see IFixIt giving both models low scores for repairability. The extreme difficulty in removing both battery and trackpad mean both models get even worse scores than the Air, at just 1 out of 10.
I'm a bit wary about getting one. I don't trust the battery life to last 7 years.

Any insights in this?

The newer batteries are much, much better though. I doubt any laptop available today will last 7 years without replacing parts, but MBPs do have some of the best longevity. If you're serious about keeping it for 7 years, look into super-extended warranties, I know they can ship with 3-year but I think you can renew that when it gets closer to expiring. Can't validate that I just seem to remember hearing it, look into it.

I got a new laptop for christmas. The problem is, it is windows 8. How do I find out what software version of it is so I can see if I can downgrade to windows 7?

You don't really have very many options if you want a useful battery for longer than 2-3 years of heavy use other than getting a non-retina MBP or a non-Macbook. I wouldn't get a non-retina Macbook - if you really want Mac OS I'd just get an rMBP and sell it off on craigslist (or local equivalent) to fund a new laptop when the battery life becomes too short for your needs.

Just use Windows 8, at worst it's as good as Windows 7.

Anything besides sticking with Windows 8?

Regardless, if I am unable to ditch Win 8, what are good alternatives to Microsoft Security Essentials, since it doesn't work with Windows 8?

Er, it isn't that it doesn't work so much as it's been replaced by Microsoft with a new "Windows Defender" that incorporates all of the functions of MSE. Do an app search for WIndows Defender and run it and you'll see it is very much the old MSE interface. It's MSE new and improved. It isn't something you have to download from Microsoft and install like MSE was. It is there from the get go with Windows 8.

Why is Windows Media Player (Windows 8) blanking out some of my songs, and refuses to play them when I double click them in WMP, but when I double click on the .mp3 file itself in the Music\<so and so> folder, it plays fine?

Why?

I dunno, but this isn't a Windows 8 problem, Win7 and Win8 have the exact same version of WMP and in both cases it isn't very good.

Use a better music player? I use foobar2000.

Edit: Herpus derpus. I was too impatient. It eventually loaded the original playlists, which had the correct names for the songs, so now the songs show properly. :hammer2:

Warranties aren't an option. I'd pay for it to last which I think it would. ..except the batteries and those aren't worth super-extended warranties.

You recommend one of the cheaper rMBP if it won't last longer than 3 years?

How's the battery in your rMBPs doing?

Thank you both! :)

Why can't I download from adobe.com? I keep getting asinine infinite loops. I click "install now" on reader or flash player, but it just takes me to the main page, and when I go to get what I'm trying to get, I get taken back to the same install page with the same link back to the home page, repeating ad infinitum. What could I possibly be herpus derping on this time? [pissed]

I recommend getting whatever rMBP is appropriate for your needs, regardless of life expectancy. If you get one with too little RAM or storage space it's not going to be much fun. The only way you can really skimp is that you only need to pay for what you think you'll want for the next 3 years rather than the next 6 years, which I guess might be the difference between 8GB or 16GB of memory. (Though certainly not for me, I find 16GB to not be enough memory for Mac OS to start with.)

You might be able to save a few dollars by getting the smallest storage space available in the config you want, then buying and installing a drive from OWC, and then doing the same thing when you upgrade to a new rMBP and moving the OWC drive to the new PC. Apple breaks compatibility fairly often though, so you'd basically be stuck upgrading on their schedule, to whatever the last model that supports your SSD is.

Don't have my rMBP anymore, swapped it for an HP laptop.

I don't even bother installing Flash anymore, Chrome and IE both have flash built-in and most of the sites I use work with HTML5 by now.

How do I install windows updates in 8? It dl'ed and installed, and demanded a restart, and I did, but it wouldn't finish installing the updates when I restarted. Why?
