Computer Questions Not Worth Their Own Thread II

How does a router's speed affect the speed of a computer?
For me, I don't see any difference.

Specs:
System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3
Computer:
Intel
Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHZ
2.79GHZ, 504MB of RAM
Physical Address Extension

Router:
Wireless G NETGEAR
54Mbps

Also, is it possible to guess if my computer can run Civ5? After realizing I had less than even 1GB of RAM and it's a version from 2002, I'm not so sure...it did run Civ4 quite well though.

Router only affects internet speeds, non internet based applications are completely unaffected.

I recently bought a laptop for school but my battery only has a two hour charge. Is there a way I could get my laptop to work for a whole school day? 6 hours should be enough.

Order extra battery packs.

Bigger battery is your only choice for extending the battery life of a single battery any significant amount. You can turn off wifi, speakers, dim your screen as far as comfortable but that will at most give you 30 more minutes.

You could try underclocking your CPU and GPU, as well as undervolting them to make them draw even less power, but I seriously doubt you will be able to get 6 hours out of a 2 hour battery.

I use CCleaner for Windows pc. My wife's work laptop is a Mac. Any suggestions on a comparable free software program. Thanks.

Alright, would you happen to know what kind of battery I'd need for a Acer Aspire 5734z-4854?

You need to find somewhere that sells batteries for the Acer Aspire model 5734Z. I found a couple 12-cell batteries on ebay, which if they're as good as the OEM (unlikely) will give you double the charge. http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Laptop-Batt...03038?pt=Laptop_Batteries&hash=item2eaf44951e is the one Im talking about

If you do go the ebay route, you will want to make sure whatever it is you're buying is not being shipped from China/HK as those are likely knockoffs, and dangerous ones at that.

for Safari hit "Safari" and then hit "Reset Safari" which sets it to defaults or "empty cache" which dumps temp files, cookies, and history.

Nothing else of CCleaner seems applicable to Macs

If you have a scanner, and there is no model number and no CD, is there a way to tell what drivers it uses other than trial-and-error?

There's probably a generic scanner driver out there. I'm sure a google search will reveal one to you.

I got another keyboard at a yard sale as my old one was very noisy (heck the new one was only a quarter). There was a button in the corner that turns off the computer every time you press it and its very easy to accidentally hit. I pried it out with a knife and covered the hole with tape to keep it from getting dirty. will that damage it?

You could have just disabled the button in the windows power settings.

Is it possible to "mute" loud mice buttons? I was playing a FPS just now and realized how annoying that clicking is when I'm shooting single-fire weapons, lol.

Probably not without changing the tactile feel of the click, nor taking the mouse apart.
