IQ_chart.jpg

Almost a 30 IQ point disparity between the smartest and the dumbest states. I'm ok with NY being the 4th smartest state but NJ is 3rd? No way!

So where does your state rank?

Were you trying to trick people on purpose, OP? How cruel.

Did some digging and found some interesting stuff:

According to the book IQ and the wealth of nations, there's a strong correlation between a nation's average IQ and its GDP per capita:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IQ_and_the_Wealth_of_Nations

Asian nations dominate the top 5 average IQ followed by a mix of European and Asian nations. U.S. ranks 26...

The lowest IQ nations are predominantly Middle Eastern, African, and South American.

Does it sound like I was trying? I was looking for some data on IQ for the "how stupid are you" thread and found this chart. I just made a thread about it because I thought it was interesting. If you have the "real" data, feel free to share it.

*braces himself for the inevitable discussion about whether or not IQ test prove anything or not*

I remember looking for that kind of data before, and I couldn't find anything except one source saying that it's never really been researched in-depth before.

Honestly, a don't expect a huge difference in IQ between any state. On a per capita basis, the ghettos have just as many idiots and retards as the hillbilly areas do.

I can find comparison of ACT and SAT test scores, but that isn't an accurate gauge of IQ either and has other problems with it because a state like Conneticut will score really high, but only have 4% of their students take the test compared to the midwest who have 100% of their students take the test and still score pretty well. Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa are usually at the top of the list of states who had at least 50% of the students take the test.

This made me

I'd just looked at the 'how dumb are you?' thread, where general_kill was congratulating himself on his high intelligence ... one of the subjects of discussion was how intelligent people still do stupid things.. so now I see he did a dumb thing like posting a bogus chart.. sort of fits, doesn't it?

No offense meant, general_kill, but it IS funny...:D

Although this list is a hoax, if you compare states by graduation rate, SAT/ACT scores, % of students who pass state proficiency tests, "smartest state" ranking, etc etc...this list does look similar.

The northeast and upper midwest dominate, and the south and the desert states typically do the worst.

Yeah, he's no Connectican.

It's nice to know dumb people vote Republican. :)

1. This is completely bogus. But just because makes Repubs look dumb, you like it.

2. In general, I hate this elitist mindset people have with IQ. So I ask; What is the point people like the OP is making? people with a IQ of less 100 shouldn't vote? That people with lower the avg IQ's aren't as important as other people?

Well, what is the point?

I agree this is somewhat true. But it should be note like Bamspeedy said, the test aren't given out equally.

But I also think the real problem is money. Those are the poorer states, which have less money to spend on educations. If you want an example on the democrat side, just look at poor inner cities. They have much less money to spend on education, and the school have much lower performer rates. But people generally vote to the left.

The common factor in both of these are money, not the party voted for.

EDIT: i just woke up, so i do things like forget words.

Thats why I mentioned so many different factors. Graduation rates are for everybody. Every student takes the state test, etc etc.

It is much much more complicated than that, and in many cases, money has almost nothing to do with it, but thats for another thread.

That article has to be a hoax or just plain BS. If it were true, it would mean that most people in Africa and the middle east are ********. I don't have a very high opinion of either area myself, but it can't be THAT bad.
