Console RPG Talk

Like I said, betw nearing 80 and mid 50s... I'm only 60 hours into the game. :p I'm going back to 5.3 to level up more, if not going quickly enough will up the difficulty level via the Dark Assembly to power up the enemies... ;)

I dunno about the Dark Assembly - I went there quite often to get stuff done so I'd done a fair amt of bribing. Maybe it's caused you're way too high level. ;)

But doesn't going for raising military funds automatically make them loathe you ('cause you want them to give you their money...)? I've gone for other stuff and high-level first-time attenders are sometimes neutral...

As for FFTA, I've the clan option opened. Apparently you get to fight clan wars with other clans to control a turf (for lower prices etc within that area). :) Getting better and better... :D 300 fixed missions and with these clan wars and also monthly competitions... hehe.

And a GBA is good for playing in bed too. :)

I meant level in the game... Like 9-1 or 10-1... ?

Raising Military Funds is the same as Cave of Ordeal as far as relations go. Senators that love you for Movement or Triple EXP all loathe you for Cave of Ordeal. Once I got them all to be 'Strongly For' in Military Funds, they ALL love me now for anything smaller. I don't bother bribing anymore to get triple EXP or create Genius characters or anything. Kinda nice... I still get garbabge itmes in battles occasionally which I gift in Military Funds. Not worth selling them. The effect of bribing is cumulative and I don't knw what makes the Senators show up. I started withlike 10, now there are some 200. Some of them have high levels also. I don't know what causes it... Laharl's level or maybe rank?

FFTA - 300 fixed missions? Are these the ones you take as jobs? Is it possible to miss out on missions?

Oh! Somewhere in the Stellar Graveyard before I have to call it a day and leave for Singapore... :) It's a breeze all the way thru, after the power levelling in 5.3. :D

As for FFTA - yep, 300 missions. You pay a fee for these, at pubs fr the bartender/rumor monger. ;)

As for the clan wars and competitions, these consitute the random battles maybe? I'll have to check if you can replay missions...

Ah okay. Stellar Graveyard's first scene is Valgipus IV I think... 9 baddes in a bunch. THAT's a goo dlevelling spot if you have Winged Slayer. Winged Slayer is a skill you get when your Sword Mastery Level reaches ten. Hence the Armsmasters are useful for it. Any character can learn it quick and kill all nine baddies in one shot. :goodjob: Similar to Cave of Ordeals 3 but for the level of enemies.

In the Original FFTactics, you had your storyline missions, but in towns, you could visit pubs and talk to the barkeep for odd jobs. If you took it, you would pay a fee for it, and send some characters off to take care of it. Depending on the mission, you selected dancers or knights or mathemeticians or whatever for better success rates, but you didn't control it. Really, once you sent some characters to accomplish the task, you couldn't use them until the allotted time to do the task had passed and they returned to the starting inn. They would gain some experience and you'd end up with gold or an item or location. Obviously you couldn't use these characters while they were off doing something. Items/Locations were useless but to collect them similar to the events in ROTK7.

FFT also didn't have no 300 missions. You could replay levels once passed though. (this was the only way to really level up...) It had a side deal also, like Cave of Ordeal in Disgaea. Toughest area in the game with great items as rewards... Does FFTA have something similar? I know it is #1 at GameFAQS now but maybe you haven't looked? (spoilers and all)

I'm going to play it thru FFTA one time my style first - no hurry, my first priority is still Disgaea. :)

Yeah, the dispatch missions are still around (where you send off members of your clan off-game to do them). Yes, you're part of a clan now. :) And can't replay old missions.

I'd just fought my first clan war - some clan wanted to take over a snowy pass. Easy though - they're lower level than me...

Thats strange, for FFTA, I have been able to redo missions... but that was only when a clan ook over one of my territory (thats what you get for training up your party) and also some dispatch missions can be replayed

But another question, soon I will be getting a PS2 (when I save up enough cash) I only have enough money to purchace one game, an RPG would be best (I have been craving for those) which ones would you reccomend?

Clan as in STREET GANG? Friggin hoodlums...

Zalzabad... You in luck. Plenty of great RPGs to be had cheap. Final Fantasy 10 is now on sale for $20 new. Xenosaga and Unlimited Saga both at $30 new. Disgaea is $50 and won't be discounted but it is tough to find. I actually have an extra sealed copy if interested... (not against TOS, is it XIII?) Disgaea is a Strategy RPG like Tactics and Tactics Advance... My personal favorite new game. The original Final Fantasy Tactics was released for PS1 but works fine on a PS2 and is also available new for $20. Those are the better RPGS that I know of. There are more definitely, but these seem to be the favorites... Well any Final Fantasy games for PS1 or PS2 are solid purchases. They rereleased FF1 & FF2 on one disc for PS1 and it retails at $30. That's a great deal. So, you may be able to get a couple games.

I would suggest Disgaea as it is limited in production and harder and harder to find. It was custom made for those of us who are obsessed with levelling. :)

Well, no clan has taken my territory yet... ;) We'll see - I've barely started anyways. :)

Go for Disgaea. In some ways (I'd say many) it's better than FFTA.

And you can play on and on and on....

Yep, like I said, mercenary companies fighting for jobs.

I'm tempted to make a party of Divine Majins and Laharl as the leader. My stupid archer is so hard to level up. Weakling that she is. But then I'd no doubt get bored of that and want other types of characters. Right now I have:

'Harlie'
Divine Majin
Eternal Fist
Shinobi
Shogun
Savior
Galaxy Mage
Freischutz
Lord
Space Pirate
Prinny God - eventually a few more to try that Prinny Day (although by that point, it may not be worthwhile)

I originally intended on having one of each class' top tier. But when you scroll throught the aptitudes... Man oh man. My Galaxy Mage gets 110% in INT and RES and 50% or 60% in everything else. Now I can't remember the last time something got close enough to attack her (her range is fantastic) but considering a Majin is 120% in every stat and that one would make a better mage...

What's your makeup XIII? (who do you use regularly in battles)

Laharl of course, and Motoko (ronin) for frontal attks. I like swords... :) Surprisingly, Flonne is my best ranged attker - her Star spellrange is the furthest away.

Not much use for Etna for the moment; getting her to train up her axe.

I also have some assorted others - Kanako (battler), Miyu (brawler), Kiki (star mage), Kikyou (archer), Maria (cleric)... but my main team is the above.

As you can see, I don't even have a full complement of characters...

PS I name my created characters after favourite anime gals... :) :p

As for FFTA, lots of action tonite. Other clans are appearing left and right, and I defeated three of them - these consitute the randomized battles I think. :)

Also got new character classes opened up for some reason - paladin and fighter for human, bishop and templar for the lizardmen, sniper for the deer-women. Don't bother me about their actual tribal names... :p

Also lots of new items available for sale, or thru missions, spent much time organizing my clan. Switched my XIII, main character, as fighter, and the lizardman as templar to learn new skills.

Apparently you can use two sets of class-related skills at any one time but will have to give up using items for that particular char. ;)

Also, if you hit an enemy fr the side, or behind, more dmg; same goes for you, at the end of your char turn, you'll have to decide which direction to face. Lots of depth there...

Also, compared with Disgaea, the skills are better designed and inter-complementary. Like the archer, she can use the skill aim-legs and immobilize enemies; and then I can get my ranged attkers to finish him off safely fr a distance.

In Disgaea, most skills are simply dmg-related, except for the cleric spells...

I don't know what world your in, but FFX is $50 and Unlimited Saga is $99 here, and i could not even find Xenosaga in the stores (of course Im in Australia, so prices might be a bit too high) I'll just have to wait till summer to get them.

Holy Moses... I didn't even lok at your location... Well in North America my prices quoted are correct. Would I be correct in assuming an Australian PS2 is different than an American PS2 as far as chipset goes? Otherwise, you could get good deals aside from the shipping... Heck I've shipped to Australia before and it didn't cost me TOO much.

XIII, I thought of naming a character 'Hamtaro' in tribute to you but then I could never take that character seriously again. :p

Lizard men? Deer women? That sounds interesting... Elves and dwarves too?

You are right on the skillsets... BUT, the archer skills have status inflicting effects. Paralyze, poison, confuse... I don't understand confuse. Red question marks above my head, but I could still move Laharl and attack with him.

And I read that axe attacks will lower defense of the enemy? I don't know if that is true or not.

There're 5 races in FFTA - humans, cat-kids, deer-women, lizardmen and puppy-faces.

The deer ones are called Viera, and they're archers and fencers. Humans are good for the general classes. Lizardmen are actually the Bangaa - but I'll still with lizardmen. Good as warriors. One of the rest is the Nu Mou; no idea which.

Cat-kids (or maybe rabbit-faces) are good as mages and thieves. So do the puppy-faces.

Hamtaro is a hamster... Maybe someday I'll create a party named after CFC posters... :yeah: floppa as... brawler?

As far as I can tell, the Australian PS2 uses the PAL system, that is, the same system Europe runs on. It's possible, even legal in australia to mod your playstation to play other regions games, but it voids the warrinty.

In FFTA, most of my party is made up of Viera, a sumoner, a ninja, a white mage, and a fencer make up my four of my six units, with my moogle and my protagonist making up the rest.

Maybe it lowers your attk rating? <shrugs>

Sort of like armorbreak? :)

Here in S'pore, you'll have to mod it - not unless of course, you can read Japanese. For some stupid reason, S'pore's put under the Japanese sales office and all the official games are in Japanese.

Only 6? I thought you can have up to 24? :)

Sorry, can't resist. :p
The "lizardmen" are called "Bangaa" the deer-woman is a "Viera" the "Cat-face" is a Moogle and the "puppy-faces" are called "Nu Mous"

Otherwise, your game sounds very similar to mine. I only finished the sixth main plotline mission, but my Marche (your XIII) is also a fighter, my bangaa's also a templar, and my viera's also a sniper. :p
I also got another human paladin, another human archer (soon to be hunter), Montblanc's got most black mage skills down and is training to be a thief, an animist moogle (soon to be gunner), a dragoon bangaa, a fencer, a black mage and a white mage nu mou. Marche's only level ten, but my white mage is level 14. I probably won't take anymore clan members now though.
