CrezNES - Another Return to Our Roots

@Crezth: Don't worry about it!

What happened to the plan to destroy at least one Koryoan city? Also, while I don't blame the mod for this second point, why on earth were the Nipponese boneheaded enough to focus on us rather then Koryo?

We admire the Channel people too, which is why we agreed to help the rightful king reclaim the throne, if you truly admire the Channel Union you should help the Loyalists defeat those that desecrated the Channel Union's laws and ways to gain personal power. The King is the rightful leader, not that traitor called the Prime Elector!

To the Franks
We hope you will succeed, your people's survival is at stake.

@Neverwonagame3: I will address your issues summarily because customer satisfaction is job #1. I would have gone into greater detail in the update but I think I'm going under the weather; not an excuse, I know, but I didn't have the energy to elaborate on every troop movement.

What happened was the Nipponese hit first and landed in Manchuria, and attacked your March Infantry from behind. Your marches tried to and moreorless successfully evaded them, burning the capitol, and heading south. Unfortunately by such time the Koryoans were advancing directly against them. In a strange twist of fate your soldiers were caught between a rock and a hard place and unable to negotiate a way south into Koryo. This was all determined from player orders and the combat system. If not for the Nipponese attack, you would have reached Koryo's capitol and burnt it. Again.

As for "nipponese boneheadedness," well, I'm not privy to the inner workings of Warhead's mind so I suggest you take that up with him. You fought a good fight, NWAG, you should be proud that it took two nations to take you down.

Update 5 - 2500 BC
CARTHAGE: Attacks Sicilia head-on, unfortunately is penetrated hard from behind by Tartessos forces. See special section below on The North African War.

TARTESSOS: Begins to reestablish cross-Mediterranean trade, however instability in the Channel cuts potential profits considerably. Invades Carthage in a surprise attack by land, see special section below on The North African War.

The North African War
War seems to stick to Mediterranean nations like a bad and sporadic habit it seems as once again conflict rules the western sea. Carthage launched an all-out assault against Sicilia and was successful in plundering large amounts of gold from Sicilian cities. On a victory lap, the Carthaginian galleys stored the gold in Qar-Hadasht; however, it would soon prove unsafe even there.

Tartessian forces set out from Tartessus' African holdings on land, driving east strong and hard against almost no defending forces. They tore up the land as enclave and town fell beneath their might, until at last Qar-Hadasht itself was taken - as well as all of the loot from Sicilia. The massive Carthaginian navy was quick to regroup in Sardinia, where it is prepared to make its last stand against the pro-Traders of the Mediterranean. (+4 gold for Tartessus, -4 growth points for Sicilia)

And this made me say... OMFG!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: When I gave THOSE orders, I never thought they would be SO effective!!! OK, so now we have so much terrain and gold that I think I'm going to burst... no! I'll spend everything so that it's secured and then I can beat Carthage forever!

A story will be coming later in the day, let's see what can I get out of this fast&furious attack...

EDIT: Shouldn't my economy have improved (i.e. +X growth points) from absorbing mainland Carthage into my empire?

EDIT 2: I just realised the sexual overtones in Carthage's update...

In the Zulu Empire...

With the growing size of the Empire, maintaining law and order becomes more difficult. Also the merchants want more regulation when they conduct trade. In order to find a solution Emperor Obama had assembled the wisest tribesman of the Zulu. After days and days and days (and more days...) they came up with two ideas:

Idea 1: the 'Alphabet', mainly series of symbols which represent all sort of things: goods, people, numbers etc. It is expected that over time the 'Alphabet' shall develop in a more sophisticated symbol system, but for now it's a start.

Idea 2: 'currency' or 'money'. Emperor Obama is well aware that money makes the world go round. The first 'money' in the Zulu Empire were sliced elephant tusks with the symbol of Royal House of Obama. The use of 'money' should improve domestic trade, maybe not at once but surely over a longer period.

Both ideas are to be implented in Zulu society as soon as possible.

Keep trading with Sicilia and the Hellenic Republic from the newly renamed city of Cartago, formerly Qar-Hadasht. Trading with the Channel Union shall be arranged through West Channel France and England (don't remember how those places are called in here).

Domestic Orders
Spend 2 gold in the Temple of Gaia (5/12).
Keep expanding towards the north in the Iberiz Peninsula. The Mediterranean coast shall be given priority over the rest.
Unite the two territories in North Africa, so that Western North Africa's Mediterranean coast is completely under control of Tartessos.
Take over the island of Corsica.
Remodel all the pirate save havens that were built by Carthage so that they can act as safe ports for the merchant and militar navy.

Military Orders
Keep the Navies around the Balearic Islands to keep away the Carthaginian Galleys.
Keep 1 Army in former Carthage, so that they can stop a probable invasion from Carthaginian armies.
Send 1 Army to Corsica.
Use 1 gold to upgrade all the armies and navies to Bronze level. Through this measure, Guerrilleros' weaponry should also be updated, so now their axe-knife is made of bronze instead of stone.

Technological Orders
Use the 4 gold banked to upgrade the technological level to Bronze Age.

Now that the orders are up there, let's see how the sudden invasion of Carthage has affected Tartessos...

Story:
Monarch's Palace, 21st September, year 475 of the Kingdom

King Paulo the First was walking around the grounds of the palace where he lived alongside his wife and his three children. This time of the day, he usually walked around, enjoying some of his free time alone and away from the hardships of government. The recently started war against Carthage, for the reason that they had been supporting the pirates that had plagued the sea for so many years, had started two years before his father died and he was enthroned, and he had had to keep it on, as he knew that if they stopped right now, the Carthaginians would look at it as a weakness sign and then the reaction might be worse.

At home, things were going pretty well, however. The lands over which Tartessos ruled were each year greater than the one before, and expansion into the islands of the sea had started, with several colones establishing small towns in each of the biggest islands of the Balearic Archipelago. One of the army trainers, the one who was organising the Guerrilleros' training, had asked for one of the smaller islands in the archipelago to be given to the army, so that training could be done in a more isolated environment, which, after a heated debate, was conceded by the High Council of Tartessos.

Just in that moment, a messenger ran into the garden where the king was, slipping slightly as the soles of his sandals didn't create enough friction against the sand soil.

"What's the matter, Neilke?" he asked the Hellenic-origined messenger, who was panting as he tried to recover from the race he had done.

"Your Majesty," Neilke replied, breathing hard, and handing the king a piece of rolled-up parchment, "a message was sent by General Herib. It says that Qar-Hadasht has fallen."

"WHAT?" the king shouted, surprised. "Qar-Hadasht has fallen?"

"Yes, Your Majesty. Apparently, the Carthaginians had no true, organised army like ours, and so the African Army had no problem to advance towards the east from our holdings in there. There have been very few casualties in both the African and the Iberizan Armies, as the Guerrilleros corps managed in many occassions to infiltrate the main towns and take control of them.

"As for Qar-Hadasht itself, the soldiers found great quantities of gold ingots and objects, probably coming from the raids their galleys launched against Sicilia itself. They have been sent to Tartesia next to this message and currently the gold is being transported to the Royal Treasury."

"What about Carthage's reaction to the taking of their capital city?"

"No reaction for now, although it seems that the enemy galleys and their tripulations managed to escape the attack on the city. General Herib presumes that they must have ran away to Sardinia, as that would be the only safe port they had in the whole Mediterranean."

"Thank you very much, Neilke. Please, inform the members of the High Council that a meeting is to be held right now."

"Immediately, Your Majesty," Neilke said, running out of the garden at top haste.

Meanwhile, King Paulo stood at a shadow, still amazed at the success the army had had in the attack. As he kept reading the message sent by his best General - the ability to write was only known to some of the elites of the nation, although this was being reversed thanks to the Teachers' Guild, who was doing its best to expand the knowledge of writing and reading between the lower classes of Tartessos - he noticed that the messenger had understated the situation.

Apparently, the opposition the General had met had been next to nil, and even that was wiped out without a problem. Herib stated that the African Army would have no problem to keep control of the recently invaded lands, and that he was going to send the Iberizan Army to the Balearic Islands, just in case Carthage decided to strike against the mostly unprotected zone.

Now, it was time to see how Carthage reacted to the fast attack that had suddenly left them with very few lands and even fewer leaders, as nearly all of the aristocrats had been caught in the attack of Carthage, and most of them hadn't been able to reach the port before being found by the Army.

How is this going to be? Will it be the seeds of our defeat or the start of our greatest era? King Paulo asked himself as he walked out of the garden, towards the High Council Chambers.

La Guerra de los Piratas
By Emilian Lalen

The causes of the first multi-national war ever to be fought in European and African lands (the first ever multi-national war was the one that posed Koryo and Nippon against the empire of Xenshin, which disappeared as a consequence of the war) are said to be many, but the one that stands out to be the most likely cause is that Carthage launched a pirating campaign against its neighbours in the Mediterranean Sea.

This started with attacks against the navies of Sicilia and the Hellenic Republic, which at the time had started to trade with each other. Sicilia was the first to react against this, creating a War-Chariots navy able to take on the pirates' sail-and-oar galleys, while The Hellenic Republic turned to domestic economy and trade with other nations like Russia or Abalonia to make up for the loss of trade with the Western Mediterranean nations, although it collaborated with Sicilia to keep the pirates out of the Eastern Mediterranean through the use of his famed Cataphract Navies.

When Tartessos joined the trade agreement between the two seafaring nations, Carthaginian pirates started to make bolder attacks against the merchant navies of the three nations. Valiant sailors would lose their life under attack of the ruthless pirates, which would then bring their gold back to a nation that only rewarded them for it. Although Carthage offered to get rid of the pirates if the affected nations paid gold to them, the capture of several pirates by the Sicilian and Tartessian navies gave them proof that Carthage's offer was nothing more than a subtle attempt to keep stealing money from them.

The first official move of the war was done by Sicilia, who launched a big fleet in an attempt to capture the capital city of Qar-Hadasht, but a desperate defense by the Carthaginian galleys to stop this attack was successful as, according to a legend, they fought literally to the last ship, this being one of the galleys.

Carthage launched then several raids against Sicilian coastal cities, winning lots of gold that would be stored in Qar-Hadasht's warehouses.

However, a fatal mistake made by the North-African nation was that at no time they had tried to keep a regular army to defend the homeland just in case (this was why the Defense of Qar-Hadasht became so desperate). This was a mistake the Tartessian armies, much more experienced in war combat than the small militias of Carthaginian cities, capitalized on.

In one of the most daring moves of the war (an attack that later historians would call Ataque Relámpago, although its upcome allegedly surprised even the most optimist officers of the army), the African Army, accompanied by the Iberizan Army and preceded by the Primer Cuerpo de Guerrilleros - which acted as scout to the army, but also managed their own victories, such as when the city of Orana was taken by them - would manage to occupy the whole of the Carthaginian homeland in hardly a few months, culminating in the capture of Qar-Hadasht itself. This would be the action that would raise General Herib to the category of Commander of all armies, only a step below the King himself, that would give him the nickname El Rayo Conquistador for the swiftness of the attack and its results and, in later generations, would be considered to be the Padre Protector of the African Army, like King Mikael the Second was Padre Protector of the Guerrilleros.

Further steps into the war, the bloodshed acquired the typical level expected in this kind of war, as many soldiers would die in the next years...

Neighbours to the South

Not long after the city of Benin was founded, traders started to hear rumours about another large, cultured nation to south. After hearing these rumours the King order to send small scout party if find out more information and to separate fact from fiction.

It was long trip along the coast but finally reach the edge this large empire. From number of smaller tribes they have learn that this nation was called Zulu and that they was currently in conflict with large group barbarian called Congolose blocking their expansion north.

After living and talk to people of couple of week the scout return to King to give their report. The Zulu's appear friendly and welcoming trade it their nation. Hopefully they allow are trader to trade with them and hopefully this should bring our two nation closer together.

Chicagoan History:

In the eons before civilization arrived to the Chicagoan people, the land was a patchwork of largely hunter-gather tribes. There was the Kaskaskia, Illinois, Chicago, Peoria, Miami, and many others who lived peacefully in coexistence and they were comfortable to live in this fashion for the years to come. But seeds of want for more were sowed when rumors from southern and eastern tribes that civilization had rose. These civilizations were Massachusetts and Florida, and the later actually had sent a few merchants to southern tribes. But new action wasn’t stirred initially, but that changed when the leader of a large northern tribe, Chicago, proposed civilization and called for a meeting of all the major tribe chiefs. And much to his surprise they wholeheartedly agreed to civilization, but Tecumseh, which was the Chicago tribe leader’s name, wanted more, for a divided civilization was no better then no civilization at all. He proposed a confederation of the tribes, where all tribes are equal and can prosper together to even greater heights.
The other tribe’s leaders didn’t have the same idea though, and it was said that only Tecumseh’s great diplomatic skills won over the various chiefs, and for which, he is now known as Chicago’s first great leader, Tecumseh the Diplomat. And so civilization rose in Chicago, which was named in honor of Tecumseh’s tribe, and all things were great for a time. And the merchants from Florida and Massachusetts grow in number and wealth was equally gained and Chicago experienced a growth spurt expanding in all directions, even across the great Chicago River.

Change was also in the air, as a monarch was established to rule over the confederation, and this led to a more open policy to the world, which had been largely ignored in the past. In fact, a alliance was signed after a time of good interaction with the merchant’s nations, known as the Three King’s alliance, for which the Kings of Chicago, Massachusetts, and Florida agree to help each other for riches to all and unknown to them at the time, but this alliance was most powerful bloc in world, so much so that even without Chicago’s help, the other two nations launched a successful raid on a far distant and hostile civilization known as California. But California would have its revenge, for a new friendlier nation to them, the Sioux, had just risen on Chicago’s doorstep, and were looking for blood and would have it, for war was on the horizon…
