Crime and Punishment

To-MAY-to To-MAH-to, point stands. Maybe not "First Class" but Business Class vs. Coach would be better?
EDIT: I probably should have left off the words "taken to" in my original post, if "taken to" is the point of contention.

No it doesn't. The police must feed even mass murderers. Burger King seems pretty modest. Like McDonald's run down cousin. The prison loaf comes later!

Point being: do you think they'd have done even McDonald's for an "alleged suspect" in a mass murder they arrested who wasn't white? Assuming he survived the arrest of course.

The police routinely feed all manner of prisoner, yes. Burger King is pretty modest. Like McDonald's run down brother. Especially if they are dealing with somebody that's going to get attention. Makes them cross the Ts and dot the Is

Perhaps ask police officers?

Sure, it's the internet, so these people may not be real officers, but what other evidence we got than anecdotal ("I didn't get Burger King when I was arrested").

During interrogation, are the police allowed to deny someone food, water, sleep, etc until they confess?

Actually the opposite is the case. Generally the first thing we asked the person being interviewed is if they would like something to eat and/or drink. If need be one of us would run to the McDonalds across the street and buy them food. When I was a detective, it wasn’t uncommon to go through a drive thru with a suspect in the car, on the way to the station after arresting them for some pretty heinous crimes, up to and including murder.

Every “interrogation” starts out as an interview. It may or may not become an interrogation. That depends on the level of cooperation from the suspect. Withholding water or food is counterproductive and, as others have mentioned, can be construed as coercive, which invalidates the information and/or confession. It’s amazing what can be gained with a Whopper or a Big Mac plus some patience and compassion.

You don’t have to like them or what they’ve done, but you should at least treat them with respect and dignity. Granted, that can be the last thing on your mind when your dealing with someone who killed a three year-old. But the goal is a solid, unassailable confession. You owe it to the victims and their families.

Is this a Dylan Roof question. Again?

If you want your case against the suspect weakened or thrown out altogether, then, sure, deny food, water, sleep. Make it look to a judge like any confession is coerced or worse, that you are “torturing” the suspect.

“Gosh! Dylan Roof is white, he killed people, and they bought him Burger King!!!”

::: eye roll :::

You HAVE to feed your prisoner. You can’t NOT feed him.

Our department had contracts with the local fast food joints, we would go through the drive through and order a “prisoner meal”. It’s a burger, a fry, and a drink. It goes on the city’s tab and that tab is paid at the end of the month.

Anybody in custody for a certain amount of hours has to be fed, on schedule, or as close to it as possible.

Fascinating. Not sure it's making the point you wanted to make, but... fascinating.

What, degrading by calling it a 'prisoner' meal? They are in handcuffs.....

Watch some true crime/confession documentaries. Giving the suspect cigarettes, soda, whatever, is a cheap investment to get the suspect comfortable to extract a confession. This is all done by detectives in an interview room, not by the beat cops on the street.

People just don’t get it. It’s a purely emotional response. They get so wrapped up in the “act” that they can’t get past it. Not even for a few minutes.

Good interviewers take the emotion out it. They suspended their outrage and get to work. If they’re truly affected by it, they can and should have someone else do the interview.

I’ve seen amazing interviews conducted by hard nosed detectives who simply showed a little empathy (whether real or feigned) and guided suspects right into lengthy prison sentences. If you watched some of those interviews you’d swear the detectives absolutely sympathized with the offender. Right up until the “Well Josh, you’re under arrest for…” It’s an art, and not just anyone can do it.

Again, not sure you are making the point you think you are making.

Maybe I'll get my girl burger King on our anniversary.

"Why you mad babe? Some guys on the internet said it was 'special treatment"

Depends on your race. Some mass murderers get taken to Burger King.
Dylan Roof wasn't taken TO a Burger King. An officer brought him food FROM a burger king.

He was being held and interviewed at the police department waiting for federal officials to arrive. The police department isn't the jail, so they didn't have the facilities to feed him.

Getting food from McDonalds or Burger King when you're in lockup is pretty standard fare. The police have to feed you if you're there for a certain amount of time and they don't have a kitchen/cafeteria in most police stations. So you get fast food, typically a burger and water, maybe some fries too if the police are feeling generous.

Also... to my original point... even assuming the Southwest Airlines pissing guy did get a Whopper Jr., with fries... that isn't a "first class" ticket by any measure.

The point is suspects getting fast food is not unusual.

Well, I'll bear that in mind the next time the police shoot someone in the back or whatever: "don't you know you're supposed to get them Burger King, not shoot them?"

That's not an insignificant step up. I'd take it.

interesting, i was not aware of this one

"Why you mad babe? Some guys on the internet said it was 'special treatment"

in a sense it would be, though maybe not special in the way that makes anybody happy!

I wonder how many days in jail Trump will get.

i'm betting the under, unless you're betting 0. that's not a statement based on my perception of guilt, but rather one acknowledging history

Correct. As far as the over goes... I'm in ongoing discussions with @Birdjaguar about what scoville scale score would be appropriate for the marinade for my hat.

I'm a NM chile lover and top out at 100-150k.
300k and up is habanero territory and the crazy places beyond.

Since it your hat and you may not get past the eating the brim, you might want to keep the heat lower so you can keep wearing what is left. At a lower level than 100,000, it might not burn your scalp as you sweat the heat out of the hat. Of course, at such a low heat level, the flavor of the hat will not be offset by the heat. :D
