Crossroads of the World Collection - Part 1 - Details announced

Looks like yet again Firaxis is trying to push a British civ with artifact bonuses. Remember Civ VI England on release? I'm taking bets on whether or not the Antiquarian actually survives past the first expansion when they inevitably gut the cultural victory path to be more interesting. Also I'm somewhat baffled that they're using the Revenge and not something like the Warspite. Then again I suppose if it really bites at you, you could make a mod to change the name, since the Revenge-class looks close enough to the Queen Elizabeths. I'm pleased to see the wonderful Venetian Arsenal return, though honestly I expected Battersea to have some other effect: +X production in this city for each connected settlement/factory resource? It is a power station after all.

Ada looks boring but strong, which is fine—at least she's not Hatshepsut. I wonder if she'll have interesting mementoes to make her gameplay more unique, though.

Carthage looks fantastic, I'm well pleased! The Byrsa looks underwhelming but at least it looks pretty; I wonder if it'll count as a fortification like Dur-Sharrukin. It'd be something of an oversight if not, no? I also wonder about the language there: "all tiles adjacent to coast and eligible for walls." Makes me curious if it applies to non-district tiles, since otherwise it'd be more straightforward to say "all districts in this city adjacent to coast..."

I find the British choices a bit odd.

The idea of an extra naval unit- great! but, Battersea as the associated wonder for extra naval production? that seems strange.
The idea of a special naval unit, again- fine! but Revenge seems an odd choice as well, it wasnt an iconic class of dreadnoughts at all, i would have settled for naming the unit after Warspite, that would have been cool in my mind, especially if they made it look like a QE class battleship

Ada abilities look a bit boring too?

Have to comment on this, because it speaks to the inconsistency of the Civ VII design:

Revenge.
As a naval item for Britain, it has serious problems. On the one hand, it is one of the most famous ship names in the Royal Navy: The original race-built galleon with the name was Drake's flagship in the battle against the Spanish Armada and was captured by the Spanish several years later in 1591 after a ferocious fight against an entire Spanish fleet in the Caribbean - presumably where the 'splash' bonus comes from. Trouble is, that fight took place firmly in the Exploration Age by a Galleon, and so has or should have, no bearing on a Modern Age Civ.

In the Modern Age, HMS Revenge was the name ship of a class of superdreadnaughts built in 1915 - 1916, but, frankly, they were nothing special - actually slower than the previous Queen Elizabeth class, and generally considered 2nd class capital ships by the 1940s, unlike the modernized Queen Elizabeths.

Frankly, a really bad choice.
I'm assuming they went with the Revenge because unique units are supposed to be unlocked from the beginning and change as the age progresses. So, I'd expect it would look like the original Revenge at the beginning and then later look like the more familiar dreadnaughts.

I'm surprised one else has pointed out how uninspiring the name "Financial Centre" is. The only thing British thing about it is the spelling of "centre" instead of the usual American "center". I liked the name Bank Junction that was speculated better.

Eh. It's fine to me. I mean America has Railyard and Steel Mill.

So as Carthage, with the 1 city limitation, you won't be able to relocate your capital at age end since only cities can be converted to capital IIRC ?
Towns can be upgraded to a capital if you have no other good options. There's always two options so if you go into Exploration with only two cities, one option will be a town. In the case of Carthage it will be picking between two towns I imagine.

I think the idea of incorporating splendid isolation is quite an interesting one however.

My guess is “Have one settlement on every continent”.

Less likely, but they could also add the Britain unlock to Augustus.
Rome, Normans and Ada will probably give automatic unlocks. Augustus is a bit of a stretch since Britain was not part of the Roman Empire during his rule.

I'm going Ada Carthage-something-Great Britain. I'm DLC maxxing!

And yeah I was reminded of Civ 6's ever changing blob of an England Civ design (shudder) BUT Civ 7 designs have much more room to do several things at a time, with the different policies and traditions.

I have to say I find the design of Battersea Power Station really disappointing. I'm excited to have Venetian Arsenal 2.0 in the game, but it's just a thematically really poor combination with BPS. GB overall seems poorly designed with a lack of clear focus, just a mishmash of ideas slapped together. It's just really, really disappointing, especially after Ed hyped it up by talking about how they've gotten better at designing civs as the game got closer to launch.

That's too generic for me too. They could have at least called America's "Industrial Park" a "Tycoon Park" instead. Just something that feels more American.

Ok, as I always have at least 3 cities, I've always been offered cities not towns... Figured towns were not an option, good to know thx

Steel Mills can stay. They’ve had such a huge impact on the economy and culture of some areas of the country that they deserve to be in under their familiar name.

I would have gone for "The Square Mile" personally, wonder if I can Mod that lol.
