I'd say stella is more expensive outside Europe, and since it's Belgian, considered a delicacy of the beer world. Like here Bud Light is relatively expensive but in the US it's pretty much bottom of the barrel stuff...
I think it's preferable that a nation's icons be owned within the nation, but in all honesty I don't like Bud, and I hear good things about Belgian brews. I'm not sold on the idea of Brazillian beers though (Can you make sugarcane into beer?).
I wouldn't call this a backlash. It's a straight simple symptom of globalization. If we play that game, we got to play by the rules.
If it spreads some version of Bud Americana all over the world to our benefit, and actually makes good beer, I can't see a negative here, other than American jobs are potentially more at risk of layoffs now. But frequently European employers are nicer to their employees than straight capitalist ones. Can't really see it as bad or good. It's just business.
Maybe the silver lining will be that the people who get the money for walking away will take their yeast and invest in those oil-pooing micro-organisms.
The masses kept drinking Coors after its merger with Molson, and Miller after its buyout buy South African Brewing. So the masses will keep drinking Bud and you can continue to drink your mediocre Stella (the Bud of Europe).
Oh I didn't say I found Stella to be the eptiome of good beer, either But it's certainly better than Bud, and gives me scoffing power over any Bud drinkers within voice range, though that's not saying much for the Stella.
I once took a guided tour in a brewery that was slightly out of the ordinary: it is mainly state held and my Dad was on the oversight committee. So we got to see all..... including how they sell 15 different beers, but brew 4. Since then they bought another company, and now sell their pee under that name, too.
I agree. Fortunately, Budweiser is only one of more than 1400 breweries in the US. The US has more breweries than any other nation. This takeover is pretty meaningless in terms of the amazing variety and quality of beers being brewed in the US now.

[sarcasm] You mean that the wide variety of piss offered doesn't lose if some versions of piss are removed?[/sarcasm]
Do you happen to know how many of the big breweries belong to how many corporations? In Europe, the trend is that each large corporation owns many breweries, which must share their raw material acquisition etc.
