Crusader Kings 2

[shamelessselfpromotion]I'm blogging about CK2! (and Paradox in general, but you know...) Go over and have a look if you're interested, i just thought this was a good place to announce it and all. Also, paradoxplaza won't let me link to it like CFC does so yeah. :D[/shamelessselfpromotion]

Anyone got any requests?

All right, I'll keep an eye on ya. I haven't played a Muslim or East Roman character seriously yet, although I'm thinking about it for the next game. Starting after the death of Baldwin I as the Latin Empire is an interesting game as well.

Bad luck, I guess. After getting absorbed by the Isles it was only a matter of time before Scotland absorbed them, and my liege took the island, IIRC. I didn't have time to take any of Ireland. A lot of it depends on how strong Scotland is early game.

I find it is easier as a count or a duke to gain power under a king than apart from him. I'd swear allegiance to a crown, either Scotland or England, immediately, then try and pick off territories with internal wars and marriages before claiming the crown for myself and expanding elsewhere. Although Ireland can be a good place to expand since most of the starting dukes and counts only have 1-2 territories.

Has anyone ever found themselves in the peculiar position where your son or grandson is your liege and you are subordinate to them?

Losing a civil war, or simply choosing not to fight it if your vassals are pushing your heir to the throne to the throne, will cause this. I will choose not to fight and give up my throne to my kid if, and only if, my king is excommunicated, incapable, or similarly disadvantaged, and the kid I'm giving it up to is my next-in-line character to play.

It's an unusual situation that has happened once. Also an unusual situation that happened once: my dude married his great aunt in order to keep all the titles, including the Empire of Byzantium, because his grandfather was a player who went through three different wives including one who became the Empress. Oh, and his great aunt was 2-3 years younger than him, around 15, at the betrothal.

The AI not utilizing betrothals properly is a HUGE advantage for the human player. Especially when you are marrying a daughter and her brothers fall down the stairs and land on some knives.

I find it easy to steal Spain kingdoms if they have girl heirs/rulers. Just betroth them and when they come of age accept the normal marriage. Sometimes they popup and change the term to matrilinear but I never click that option. :P

Exactly!

And if a male heir is born in the meantime, just make sure he has a sudden onset of the bubonic knife plague. :D

Just started a new game as the Duke of Swabia. I happend to zoom out just as a War between France and Englanded ended. This is the result!!!!

If I thought old Willy could hold it together this would be super scary!

All he needs now is to get enough of France or take the rest of the British Isles and he can become a emperor!

All hail Emperor William I!

I know the coding can't handle a ruler without a regnal numeral, but the first of that name doesn't have a regnal numeral, for the simple reason that he is the first of that name. Calling him William I is clearly implying that there is a second ruler of that name and you're using the 'I' to differentiate him from his eventual successor.

Tell that to Pope John Paul I, who insisted on using the numeral despite the obvious problem you pointed out.

Unfortunately, that problem only persisted for about a month, as I recall.

I doubt that barons do, but I don't know about counts offhand. I meant that if a title comes with a regnal initial, the game can't handle making the first ruler 'I' retroactively.

Elder Kings is awesome.

Gonna form High Rock fairly soon, but I'd like to get 4-5 kingdoms instead of just 3 so I don't have to bother with de jure drift. My wife is the queen of Winterhold and we have one son who has slightly less martial and a fair amount less stats than I do (and I have 22 martial and 12ish other stuff), so that should go reaaaal well.

It's slightly less awesome when you're responsible for fixing all sorts of localisation errors, frequently made by those for whom English is not their first language, but yes, it's my favourite mod. :)

Man, those names bring back memories.

One of these days, I'm going to register so I can download that and the Game of Thrones mod.

Then let me just take the time to say you're awesome, because I can't recall a single grammatical error.

Did you play Arena?

Well, thank you, but I hardly think that's all due to me.

I've been playing the save for about 20 years. I have one son, and he was genned at start. Only grandson is dead (and was breton to boot).

Things will get interesting when I die.
