Crusader Kings 2

with a troublesome countess responsible for both demands for lower authority taking second place.
0/10, would murder entire dynasty

The patch also attempted nerfing seduction a bit but their tweaks were disappointing to say the least and didn't really address anything, basically it just reduces the chances AI will target players or their close relatives/spouses, so the main issue of the massive medieval orgy still abounds.

Oh well, glad the patch addresses a number of issues regardless, because otherwise I've really been enjoying WoL. Definitely in my top 3 major DLCs alongside SoA and the Republic (though I guess SoI is a close 4th).

Fixed some problems with the 'inbred' trait calculations - watch out cybraxkhan!

Aw man, I'm really bummed, how could - nah, just kidding, I'm a modder, if they do something I don't like I can probably change it. :D

Only one problem with that - we're in the same dynasty! My own dynasty has been my worst enemy - at first it seemed like a great idea to get family members on the thrones of Aquitaine and Lotharingia, but now it just means that whenever Aquitaine decides to hate on me, they bring Lotharingia in, too.

Tonight I conquered the Duchy of Leon from my nephew. Aquitaine didn't even intervene, probably due to a combination of my calling in Italy pre-emptively and Aquitaine already being at war with half my vassals (who had started a separate war against Asturias).

Now I'm pondering war with the Umayyads, who are embroiled in a misadventure in Mali. This has always been a bad idea before, but somehow it seems like it might be different with them already in retreat in the south.

:goodjob: Sounds good! You have the best stories of a certain questionable nature.

It does look like they introduced a new bug with succession laws. You're supposed to be required to have all vassals having a positive opinion of you, but I definitely have a count who dislikes me, but could still change laws.

My story is about king Henry II of France. He ascended the throne in a young age, being merely 4 years old. At first he grew to be a scholarly king, albeit his rather dim wit. He wasn't by any means a religious man, in fact he regulary corresponded with his decades dead daughter and claimed that Earth circles the Sun - a statement that rather annoyed the Pope. But this was about to change.

In the year 1116, a crusade was called for Jerusalem. Henry had by then a man grown son of 19 years of age, who was rather more zealous than himself and had already fathered a son. But nevertheless, a few years later he joined The Knights Templar, which disinherited this young, promising prince. Henry, devastated with this blow, joined the crusade in the year 1119, to join his son in battle. The war lasted for over 30 years and was for the most part considered an impending failure. In 1132, a civil war broke out in France, which meant that the french forces needed to retreat to fight it out. After the civil war was put down, Henry II, now known as The Bold, gathered his forces once more, for the final desperate push to win the crusade. And then, in the year 1142, what was almost certain muslim victory was turned into a glorious triumph for christians. His forces slashed the infidel forces with newfound ferocity, sieged and stormed holding after holding, until in the year 1144, the war was won and Jerusalem given to Henry, who never knew his glory, for he had fallen into coma a mere week before signing the peace treaty and died a few months later, in the glorious age of 77.

Despite his startings as a rather non-religious and heretical man, through his trials and sufferings, he died a true christian knight, full of love and still corresponding with his belowed daughter, who by then had been dead for over 40 years.

His son Phillipe, however, had left the templars due to unknown reasons that had probably something to with a duel and killing of grandmaster. This meant that this young, promising, 49 years old prince, inherited the throne he had once refused and became a king. He was known as "the Hammer" but I rather picture him as an old, maimed and disturbed man who had only known war in his life, ruling over old, maimed and disturbed men, who had only known war in their lives.

This is so true.

My boy king (inherited at the age of 4 because his father died in battle) just had his crown authority dropped from high to effing nothing because the regent (a formerly trusted family member) was in on the faction and decided to accept the demands to lower crown authority. One right after another. Over the course of a couple months, generations of work was ruined. All I could do was sit with a horrified look on my face watching this wreck play out.

This happened to me in my first long game of CKII (i.e. more than one generation), genius boy king got screwed over by distant cousin/regent, but thankfully when the boy king grew up he took revenge and all was well (at least until he died of young age from stress...).

Generally though I still prefer family members over non-family, if I handle things carefully I usually only have one annoying cousin to deal with every generation and everybody else remains relatively loyal.

I wish there was a cooldown time between the factions to drop crown authority. At least a year, so my spymaster would have a chance to convince the regent to knock off the funny business. But I watched the screen and it seemed like the faction leader made his demands, disappeared from the list, and another guy just took over as the faction leader and demanded it a month later. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I'm sticking with the game instead of save scumming it, though. I'm working my way back up.

Even better. Murder everyone else so you inherit their crap.

A few diplomacy points is nothing compared to closing rifts like he's got.

That's rough with the triple-lower-authority request. I didn't know it could happen that quickly. At least it was close to a decade when it happened to me. And so far I've been fortunate with regents - no bad choices of designated regents yet. Currently my designated regent is a non-dynasty vassal whose claim I pressed - he's pretty thoroughly loyal for now, or at least I think he is.

My dynasty's sticking around whether I like it to or not. It's up to 105 living members. I could probably make things more difficult for myself by pressing the claim one of my distant relatives has on the Kingdom of West Francia, but our relations are at a mutual -100, so I think I'll pass.

Because you're not psychotic or have a fetish for being tormented by the Furies?
