CTIV-1: The Turtle Game

Damn, can't believe we missed Liberalism :gripe:

Hermitage might've been better in AM now, but I really wanted to keep the cultural pressure on Hattie.

Turn 0 -- 1725 AD

Everything looks good, I hit Enter

Turn 1 -- 1730 AD

AM: Longbow > Crossbow
Calcutta: Monastery > Knight
Karachi: Grocer > Market

Mansa Musa has beaten us to the Eastern island:

CTIV-1K.jpg

Dropped research to 80%, Constitution still due in 1, and now we're running a surplus.

Turn 2 -- 1735 AD

Liz wants us to donate Printing Press. I send her a copy of a newspaper with the headline "England Can Only Make One Copy At a Time"

Constitution comes in. I print multiple copies and send them to Liz.

I start Replaceable Parts, because I want more milling power (plus it's time for lumbermills).

You say you want a revolution?

Lahore Longbow > Walls

Science back to 90%, only -8 a turn, RP in 4. *sigh* ... remember when RP gave Artillery? MEMORIES LIGHT THE CORNERS OF MY EYES ...

Turn 3 -- 1740 AD

Liz presents an interesting proposition: Gunpowder for Nationalism. I make it more interesting by offering Printing Press for Gunpowder (Nationalism is worth more, obviously). I do this for two reasons: saves us researching Gunpowder ourselves, and if Elizabeth has Gunpowder, we probably should as well.

AM: Cross > Musket
Lahore: Walls > Castle

Turn 4 -- 1745 AD

Bombay: University > Grocer

Don't think we should settle here:

CTIV-1L.jpg

Turn 5 -- 1750 AD

AM: Musket > Musket
Jaipur: Library > Temple

Science back to 80% for a turn

Turn 6 -- 1755 AD

Elizabeth wishes to embrace pork. I tell her Isabella wouldn't be happy with her.

Lahore: Castle > Hermitage, I like this city better for culture than Madras.

Replaceable Parts are in, start Military Tradition, due in 5 at 80 or 90, so I stay at 80%

Lumbermills for everybody!

Turn 7 -- 1760 AD

AM: Musket > Musket
Calcutta: Knight > Musket
I decide to switch Madras to Musket as well from wealth since we're running a surplus.

Turn 8 -- 1765 AD

Delhi: Finishes OXford University, renames it Delhi University. Starts Walls

Elizabeth goes liberal and embraces Free Market and Free Religion.

Turn 9 -- 1770 AD

AM: Musket > Musket
Jaipur: Temple > Barracks

A great artist is born in Delhi ... I put him to sleep for now.

Turn 10 -- 1775 AD

Delhi: Walls > Buddhist Stupa
Bangalore: University > Aqueduct
Karachi: Market > Walls

Ok, well, we're about at the point of a typical SG where we declare war and conquer our inferior neighbors ... but we can't. But that's ok.

Keep building lumbermills, keep an eye on the research/money, and keep building/distributing troops (I've been sending the muskets from the northern cities to the other cities).

Here's the save:

Well, I guess we have a couple of options for the artist and merchant. I think it might be too late in the game to make super specialists worth it, but with our current situation culture bombs are probably useless and obviously we can't do trade missions, so that might be all we are left with. Can we use GL's to discover tech? If so, we should weigh tech discovery v. super specialists v. waiting for another GL for a golden age.

We can use the GL's to assist in tech discovery, but currently the techs they'd help us with can be researched in 4-5 turns, and they only shave about 1-2 turns off.

Pre-turn
Decided to settle the fishing village of Hyderabad.

1780AD
Hatty demands Print Press. I refuse, and she remains Pleased. Military Tradition is discovered; start research on Economics. Karachi finishes walls, starts on castle--more culture.

1785AD
Workers working...

1790AD
Kolhapur courthouse-->theatre.

1795AD
I turn down Manu's request for a seafood trade and open borders. Economics is discovered; start research on Astronomy. Lahore completes Hermitage, exchange the priest and merchant for 2 artists.

Ucel, if it's ok with everyone feel free to take it before me. The next coupla days (especially today) are full for me, so I'd be pushing it to get it done tonight. Certainly if you can play today, I think that'd be a good move.

Same with me: I'm kind of busy at the moment so I don't think I would be able to swap with chriseay, though I should be ready by the time it is officially my turn.

Hey guys, sorry I haven't played yet. I'll take a skip if next up can get to it before tonight.

EDIT: Since there was no response, and I'm home and ready to play now, I'll take it and have it posted soon.

EDIT: Ignore everything I said about the statue of liberty, it's a big mea culpa on my part. I forgot about no world wonders.

Turn 0/1810 AD - Everything looks like it's in order, so I hit enter.

Turn 1/1812 AD - Hatty comes looking for OB's. You'd think they'd have learned by now. Hyderbad's borders expand, allowing us to work the fish. It will have to build it's own workboat though, as there is no coastal route from our territory. Dehli Musketman -> Observatory.

Turn 2/1814 AD - Chemistry -> Democracy. I like the Statue of Liberty. Musketman starts and finishes in Lahore, Aqueduct -> Grenadier in Bangalore, Harbor -> Grocer in Jaipur.

Turn 3/1816 AD - Calcutta Cavalry -> Observatory.

Turn 4/1818 AD - Izzy comes demanding tribute in this form:
izzy4we.jpg

I say no way, and we go from -3 to -4. Good thing she's on the other side of the world. Lahore Observatory -> Musketman

Turn 5/1820 AD - zzzzz, just clearing more darkness with the caravels.

Turn 6/1822 AD - AM Observatory -> Grenadier

Turn 7/1824 AD - Lahore Musketman -> Grenadier. Karachi Observatory -> Cavalry.

Turn 8/1826 AD - Democracy -> Corporation. I start AM on the Statue, though it'll take 29 turns. It's the highest production city we have.

Turn 9/1828 AD - Liz comes trying to trade, again, you'd think they'd know better.

Turn 10/1830 AD - Nada.

So I spent my turns working on military and building some observatories. We have one turn till Corporation, and then we only have Rifling left on this level. On the Statue of Liberty, we should come up with some way to get it faster. That golden age could help, if we can get the right GL. A great scientist is the highest percentage from Delhi, and the new leader should pop in 11 turns. The demo's are looking good, though power and pop could be higher. It's amazing how not trading for health resources hurts.

Ack...you're totally right. I forgot about that completely. We have put at most 3 turns into it, so the next player will have to change it immediately. My bad over here.

Got it and played it. Report up shortly.
