CTR1 -- Jump Without Looking (the Deity Virgin Sacrifice)

I think it will take longer than 3 turns for our transports to get near Reading.

mad-bax:

Go ahead and take it. I'm not going to be able to play tonight.

You might want to rush a transport/destroyer on the west coast and load up some tanks to bring to the British Isle, but it's your call

Got it!
I hope I can do enough so you can win the game on your turn ChrTh. It feels like quite a responsibility.

From Earps post it looks like the English have no tanks to speak of so I think I will only airlift. Any excess units can stay on the homeland in case we need to liberate the Persian cities on our continent. I'm also going to join in the native workers immediately to save us 60 gpt. I'll keep 30 or so slaves for pollution control for now. I am also going to raze the next English city I capture. If it looks as if the English are going to be wiped out it may be necessary to gift them a safe city that the Persians can't get at.

I'll try to play during the day, but don't expect a post till this evening (GMT)

Well, this was not as effective a set of turns as I would have liked. But here goes anyway.

Turnlog
1525AD: Pre-turn.
Plant spy in England.
They have 1 tank and 27 Mech Inf.
Settle a couple of new towns.

IBT:
Allegheny flips to the English.
Persians capture Reading.

1530:
Spent an hour MMing and joining workers. Running out of cities that can accomodate the population.
Retook Allegheny and razed it.
Refounded new city in place.

IBT:
War weariness steps up a gear. Hire a lot of entertainers.

1535AD:
Capture Newcastle. It was messy.
Capture Dover. Not Messy :)
Capture Oxford. Very Messy with no arty.

IBT:
No Losses. But it is a real race up the peninsula against Persia. I may have to take some risks to claim the cities.

1540AD:
Spent some money rushing some culture and settlers.
Capture Coventry. It was messy as 80% of arty failed.
Capture Exeter, losing a tank army.
Ran out of places to rush settlers from. But I can get some next turn.
England are down to 6 mech inf. We on the other hand have 65 tanks. I quite like the odds.
There are enough unclaimed tiles right now for us to reach the domination limit.

IBT:
England land 20% of their Mech inf on our mainland. :D
Nottingham flips to the English

1545AD:
Recapture Nottingham
Started a Jungle chop where it can't be worked :smoke:
Persia capture Leeds
We capture Norwich.
Thats it. No more English cities to take. I make straight peace so we can declare if we need to retake flips.
Monster round of MMing. Firing lots of clowns, changing builds to temples etc.
Assemble most of our troops on the mountain next to nottingham.

IBT:
Hastings flips. I knew we would lose some.

1550AD:
Joined in some workers, founded a few towns, tidied up a bit.
We have 1525 tiles with 102 tiles to the limit.
We have 1039 pop with 46 to the limit.
There are precisely 150 tiles unclaimed.
We have 34 workers and 16 slaves on pollution control.
The flipped city (Hastings), accounts for 16 tiles.
We have 80 tanks and 40 Arty.
We have 950g and are making 998gpt.

Persia is still at war with England.

So. What now?

Here is the land grab situation.
ctr1p.jpg

And here is what I sincerely hope is the final <<save>>.

Well, first things first: any tile that has no cultural boundaries needs a city asap ... I see at least 1, maybe 2.

Nothing we can do about Hastings, I fear. We may want to starve our formerly british cities (worker 'em to almost death)

EDIT: Or can we? I wonder if we could propaganda them?

@space: if you can play today, go ahead. The earliest I can get it is Friday night, and possibly not even then.

Thanks Space. :o

Here is a suggested dot map for settlers. Obviously some of these sites will annoy the Persians. But I think if you settle all the sites and retake Hastings on the same turn you will be virtually there.

You may want to rethink the temple builds. Libraries will give cultural expansion quicker. So if you rush some of them before going to the next turn the expansion will take place in 4 turns, giving you the opportunity to win the game on your last turn ChrTh.

Good luck mate. History awaits you :)

@space: that's ok, I'd rather wait until I had the opportunity to give it my full attention, and that's not going to happen for a couple days. If you finish it, great! If not, I'll give it a whirl :)

I took straight peace. Which means there is no 20 turn deal. This was on purpose so that we could declare to take any flips back plus any from the Persians that are required. If you moved the artillery stack up to the northeastern red spot you could take all the Persian cities up there in 1 turn.

If it were me I would do the following.

Pre-turn
1. Rush 4 or 5 libraries and half a dozen settlers.

Turn 1
1. Locate the settlers on the red spots.
2. Move all the arty to the northeastern red spot.
3. Move 5 tanks outside Hastings.
4. Move 30 tanks to the Northeastern red spot.
5. Move troops on our mainland to defend the cities around the Persian cities.

Turn 2
1. Declare war on England and take Hastings back
2. Declare war on Persia and take the Northeastern Cities

Turn 3
Watch the Dan Quail screen tell us we are magnificent :)

Ooh. Looks like it's you Space. No pressure

@m-b:

I'm pretty sure that a Peace Treaty has an initial 20-turn deal (because I've seen AI 'renew' it) ... but I don't think we really care about diplomacy at this point.

I would wait and see if Persia is able to take the island. If so, conquer Hastings to finish off the British.

@ChrTh: wouldn't that scenario get the Persians their 100k culture victory?

I don't think so--but don't quote me! When I last looked at the numbers, it appeared Persia was around 75K ... I guess it depends on whether or not the Persians make peace with the English; I suspect that if they take the island, they'll go after Hastings next anyway.

Don't take Hastings yet; I would wait and see. Rush cultural improvements where possible. War with Persia may be inevitable (and scary).

They need double your culture anyway in addition to 100K.

Won't be an issue for Persia, our culture is weak (less than 30k) ... yet we're religious. D'oh!

pre-turn:
Looking for extra tiles by culture growth:
Switch core cities to infantries, just in case we need to go to war against Persia.
We can't hurry as many settlers as would be needed to settle all the red dot in the first turn.

Resisters keep us from hurrying in the captured cities.
ChrTh may well get to this game after all :).

Persia wants Wines as a gift... well interesting.
We could war on Persia if we prepare and bring in our defenses, we can't at this stage and they will be able to conquer cities on our main land now, I don't risk it. If we declare them in the near future we'll be prepared. So grudgingly I give in. Don't hate me for that.

The english attack Persia and we're at war once again, rioting all over the place.

But it's all up to you now ChrTh. :)

The save I'll post a little later gotta go now.

So close. So very very close. :)

Well ChrTh, you can't keep avoiding it forever. Will you win this damn game please! :D
