CTR1 -- Jump Without Looking (the Deity Virgin Sacrifice)

OT:

I can't help specifically, but generally if you are running a lot af graphics then you are using a lot of frame buffer memory. You will have problems if a device is trying to access the particular memory addresses used by the buffer. Closing Paint will reduce the size of the frame buffer. Have you installed any new devices lately? Scanners, cameras etc. Also you might try disabling Pallette snoop in the BIOS.

Finally, what graphics card do you have, how much memory does in have, and when did you last change the driver for it?

Another finally, when you ran the ant-virus utility, did it do any cleaning?

also OT:

I think you've hit it. I also run a program to take a snapshot with the webcam every hour, for our family website. I bet it has something to do with that. I'm not the only user of that comp and I've seen an extra webcam icon in the systray. Will look into it, thanks!

The anti-spyware software removed lots of stuff. Amazing how many people want to know what your doing. Spyware mainly collects data but some are annoyingly presenting screens while your surfing that are very hard to close. I had more than 70 instances of such stuff and let the software remove them. So, yeah it did clean, that's why I mentioned it.

The anti-virus stuff I have running hasn't found anything lately. We are very careful and the kids also know how to behave on the net.

Ok, here we go again. The Army still has to move south, sending a Transport in.
Try to plant a spy in England.... we now have an agent in London.
Here's their strength in this year:
CTR1--Englands-troops.JPG

They have no yet started their SSS (TM).
Try to steal Radio..... and fail.

I will postpone planting a spy in Persia until we are engaging England. We are just too vulnarable at the moment. Our MPP with Persia will end in 4 turns. So I'll wait for the army to arrive (in 2 turns :( ) and declare then.

Press enter...

IT:
Kyoto Tank -> Tank
Philly riots, gets a taxman
Seattle Tank -> Tank
San Fran Tank -> Tank

Dark Blue Factory -> Tank
Borazjan Worker -> Lib
Mamphis Tank -> Tank

1455AD - turn 1
Try the steal again..... and this time we succeed! :)
I put our lonely scientist at work to single-handedly invent Rockets.
Move the transport but it is not save yet, and although the England troops are getting stronger I think we have a better chance with it, and we don't have any offensive ships to protect the transport. :(

Check F1 and press enter.

IT:
Lyons Court -> Lib
Osaka Tank -> Tank
Miami Tank -> Tank
Dark Chocolate Tank -> Tank

Hurry Barracks in Akwasasne.
Cancel a lot of deals with Engalnd and declare... :eek:

Move to New Calcutta and take it in 1 turn :lol:, it had a single rifleman. :)

The battle for Allegheny:
Move army on the Oil.
The arties hurt the Mech Infs, Vet Inf is now their best defence.
Pop to 20.
Two cavs pillage the Oil.
Barracks destroyed.

We are hopelessly short of good defensive units, I mobilize, this has an immidiate happiness effect.
Press enter.

IT:
Persia demands we remove the Tank that has killed an English Inf. I comply, naturally. They don't want to continue our furs deal, he'll only accept three luxes. Well, we both will have to do without.
I hope this will hurt him more than us.
England attacks using Knights, cavs, Mech Infs and Swords.

1465AD - turn 3
Massive rioting after the lost furs.
Akwesasne Barracks -> Settler
The rest Tank -> Tank

England has targetted Grand River, it has Oil...
I train a lot of Tanks to be Elite on the English SOD, when... the $%$*^$*&%%* game quits on me again!!!!

1465AD - turn 3 (revisited)
Wipe out Engalands initial SOD near Grand River, at the cost of 4 Tanks.
Arties destroy Temple, market, library, research lab, police station, courthouse, bank, cathedral, university, colloseum in Allegheny and it is down to 19 pop.

We can only attack over the river, I decide to wait a turn to be able to use the arties again and attack from the right side.
We have not enoug money for a stealing attempt, but I do try to plant a spy in Persia and... get caught. They're still polite.

Press enter.

IT:
A lot of Tanks are ready.
The people Love us, we get some nice trees.
Persian cities on our continent gain some tiles, grrr.

1470AD - turn 4
Attempt to steal a tech from England (Computers would be nice) but fail, out agent is killed.

Try to replant a spy, but fail.
Move as much troops as possible to safety, try to find a balance between defending the new city and leave most of them outside it in case it flips.

Press enter.

IT:
Persia want to renew the MPP. We will be mobilized for 20 turn more, unless we manage to end the war first. I can't refuse Persia now, can I? ;)
War wariness kicks in big time, I should have expected it :smoke:, sorry. :(
England fails to retake Allegheny, but kills two Tanks in it.

1475AD - turn 5
Try to plant a spy again, fail, again.
Kill some lost English troops, adding to the Elite wins, but no luck.
Progress is slow due to our intense lack of defensive troops, switch some builds to Inf.
I sell our TM for Persias plus 5 gold :lol: (I want to know whether something is happening at the straight between them).
I can see signs of some bombing, but no serious damage either way.

>>>> the save <<<<

Good job Space. :goodjob:

Is Persia still in communism?

Are we going to try to take the other English city(Brighton?) with oil, or atleast disconnect it from the capital? I think it is important to keep England from building more troops that require oil.

Are we capturing or razing cities? We need the population so capturing would be nice, but we do not have the troops to garrison and prevent flips.

I do not think we should renew any luxury deals with Persia. They are not getting any luxuries from England and will have to increase their slider to keep their large cities happy. This will slow down their research.

I would move the stack of artillery to the hill overlooking both Tonawanda and Warwick. It will be able to attack both cities and the hill is a good defensive position. I would also move some workers to the hill to build roads/rails so that the artillery can move quickly after the two cities fall.

Good luck Wanderer.

Regarding flips:

It's something we're going to have to deal with. We need to all but conquer England, and we need the population, so keep taking them (raze if smaller than 3 --- we have settlers fortified) and keep troops ready to retake if flipped. Armies, etc., should be kept outside the city.

But seriously - it can happen, especially considering how long this game has been running. I had a look around- it seems the next longest SG has 570 posts or so, and we are into 700 !!!

You do realize that while you have more posts than SUL5B, they have you whupped in terms of the longest running SG by a large margin. :) You only started a few months ago, they started last year! In fact they are going to be coming up on their 1st anniversary in about 1.5 months...

Yeah, but is that really something to be proud of? ;)

Hey guys, I just spend the afternoon reading this, its great! I only had time to read up to page 25 and then I skipped to the end. Lol! I thought the end would tell me how you won but you are still playing.

Like I said I have't read the recent comments and I dont want to criticise or anything. I just want to point out that I notice you are paying 64gpt to support japanese workers. You could save a bunch of cash if you got rid of them.

Since you are a religious civ, you could go to democracy in one turn and all your caputred workers would end up going at the same speed. You would end up with even more money. I dont think the war weainess would be much worse for you, even though it looks like you will be fighting until the bitter end.

charging down field, he dodges to Persians, dives straight at the english end zone, and takes the catch ... I GOT IT !!!

Hmmm ... it'll take some time to actually get to it ... some time tomorrow I'll post what I see and what I plan to do.

As I suspected ... I got a war turn again !!! Yay, no pressure, just , if you mess up, we lose. OK :0

@budweiser - the worker's may end up being our saviours! We will be adding them to out large cities in the final push to try and get over the POP limit required for domination. To be quite honest, towards the end, we will likely be rushing workers from small to medium cities, to pump any major cities that can still grow.

Oh well, where's my sword...

@Wanderer: Almost all turns from now on will be warturns :), just relax and take them one at the time. If we lose, we lose, no big deal. It is never one set of turn that causes it, it is the sum of our efforts. And sure, we made mistakes, just as will happen when you try something for the first time. That was part of the deal when we started. Kind of exposed learning, entertaining but hard.

I had hoped to take out more cities in my turns but failing that I did take out their first wave of offensive units. And I think they don't have many more. I would switch some Tank builds to Infantry though, we need some more of those. The save will show lots of rioting cities, but they'll be producing again next turn. Units can heal in Akwesane, it has barracks.
You'll be fine, I think you are a better player then you think you are.

May the force (read RNG) be with you. ;)

The beginning of the war is likely to be quite slow going. Personally I would switch to Monarchy and try to raise a couple of their biggest towns. I know we need the population, but we also need to win the war. Razing a couple of cities is the quickest way to force them to change government.

You will do well to take 2 cities on your turns Wanderer. It will get easier after that.

Good luck Wanderer.

BTW I hear you've been doing great things in GOTM and the new Tournament. Congrats. :)

Actually razing is almost as good a capture.

You need 2/3 of the pop. Let's say you have 250/500 pop. You have 50% of the needed pop.

If you raze a size 20 city, you now have 250/480 pop. You have 52.083% of the needed pop.

If you capture a size 20 city, you now hoave 270/500 pop. You have 54% of the needed pop.

While the capture is better on raw pop numbers, the raze still brings you toward your goal. In addition, if you have plenty of workers all those new no cost workers may let you merge some of you native workers back into cities. That will also help with pop.

@ Mad . Thanx !! GOTM 22 was the bext game of Civ I have ever played, in terms of results. Still so much to learn, , but still my first ever win on emperor (and that on emperor +!). A win in GOTM21, altho still on the bottom 1/2 on the ranks. MY 5-4 game was fun, altho I am playing conquest there, so it was lots easier than Open!

@LKendter - thanx! We are kinda tight on pop, since we are trying to avoid the mighty persians. England currently have 323 pop (latest mapstat) and we need 318. Still, we have 60+ workers...

On turn 4 now guys, will post soonish

Yeah, Lee's right ntItai ... usually you don't want to raze in a Domination Situation because other civs will put settlers down while you're still fighting, but there are no other countries that can put settlers down.

I would recommend the following: settle in the exact same city spots that we raze but only on the second line (not the front line), i.e. maintain a razed city line for the front.

Remember, we have settlers fortified and ready to build.

[/B]

We need to irrigate all land near corrupt cities. By corrupt I mean anything that can't build a tank in 8 turns. When cities get to 12 leave them. Just settle another a couple of tiles away. We have the pyramids so we can grow pop real quick.
