Re-new Ivory for 25gpt with Persia. Any attempt to renegotiate this deal would have led to no deal as we will never again be able to trade lux or resource for gpt.

Persia want MPP and ROP. It would be clever of Persia to do this and then declare war on India without committing a single unit. Even better, scatter a few cheap units around our lands and then declare war on India. We would be trashed. No deal. I give away our world map to soften the blow.

I have switched a lot of corrupt cities to building courthouses. Workers will become a drain on our finances soon, and a lot of the jungle is gone now. This can easily be over ridden by the next up.

I know we are in a building phase, but I am beginning to feel a little exposed now. I would feel a little happier with a few more defenders.

Sorry guys, I didn't play my turns tonight, I was completely absorbed by the end of my GOTM21 game. I'm so glad I finished that one, very time-consuming but very entertaining at the same time :). My next civ time will be devoted to this game, promise!
 
Guys, I will be away again now for a while. I hadn't really expected to be going away again now but I will be gone until pretty much August the 19th. I will be checking back occasionally but never really get an oppurtunity to play during this time :-/. Good luck in the game :)
 
Reading the discussions I see that we're in a building phase after wiping out the Iroqs. Trying (desperate?) to get ToE to get us on track science wise after trading for it using our gpt is no option.

The happiness situation is good, even at 0% lux. I'll be able to fire two entertainers on top of that.

Damn, India has Electricity now and we will finish it in 2 turns :(. Gandhi hasn't sold it around yet, the others don't have it.

The next player should watch the happines situation, a lot of our cities are balancing and can't take growth. England has wines they don't want to sell. We will need to build military units again soon.

Well done Space and I agree with everything you said.

So. How many turns before we get Scientific method? How many shields to build TOE? and how many shields will dark blue make once it has a factory? We need to do the sums and decide at what point to rush the factory and start the palace pre-build. Before TOE is finished we will also need a pre-build started for Hoovers which will need a site on a river.

This game has been funny. We seem to have played the beginning and are now beginning the end of the game if you see what I mean. Where has the middle gone?

Productivity:
Dark Blue has 20 spt. It can be optimized (+4 food, and Osaka has some mines it could take). Factory in 5 turn currently.
Osaka nex tbest on 17 spt. No factory being built here yet (bank in 5). Factory will take 17 turns, so I'm going to change bank (2 turns) to factory (7 turns). This will save 10 turns on factory, and then bank will be faster!
Kyoto has 17 spt, and factory in 13 turns. By moving mined plains to irri plains for Dark-Green (costing dark-green 1spt, and gaining it 1 food pt) I can move an irri plain to the mined plain for Kyoto, and it is now on 18spt, with factory in 12.

The great news is that all 3 of these cities are on a river, so any on of the 3 will be able to build the ToE and/or hoovers.

Given that Dark Blue should go from 20 spt to 30 spt (factory +50% sheilds), this is our 1st pre-build city. We just need to decide what our biggest pre-build item is the Palace (43 turns currently), as soon as the factory is finished, I suggest switching that city to palace for ToE prebuild. We have 2 turns for electricity, and I reckon 10 to 12 for Sci Mth, so the sooner we start, the better. In fact, we might want to consider running the sci slightly slower, just so we can afford to buy the factory.

I think I should focus on trying to speed our prod for those 3 cities, and general infra. I do worry about defence as well, tho....
 
Yeah, slowing down research a bit is ok, we can't keep running a deficit forever. I was just hoping to beat the AI to Electr and we almost did so, too. If the 2nd ring cities complete their unis they can be switched to military units.

We can't win this by building, I fear. We need to stop the others developing otherwise they'll beat us to the spaceship. The best thing that can happen is them warring amongst each other. The downside to that is they are each on a different continent and we all know how wel the AI handle the logistics overseas... :rolleyes:
So the only one that can hurt them is... us. But we can do so only by military force. So let's face it, we need to invade Persia at some point :eek:
 
turn 0 - pre-turn:

Osaka bank-> factory. bank in 2 turns, changed to factory in 7, so we can get our next best prod city on track for a Hoover's pre-build.

MM Dark-Green - changed mined plains to irri plain. Imp food for dark-green, and free's 1spt to improve Kyoto.

MM Kyoto - change irri plains to mined plains to gain 1spt. Factory goes from 13 turns to 12.

Seattle Cav-> Factory. This is a 11 spt city, with massive food surpolus. by mining and opt, and a factory, we should be able to get into 20 or so spt (even with the current 50% wastage - it currently gen's 22 spt).

MM seattle - change FP to unwork Mt. Spt goes from 11 to 12, and factory goes from 22 turns to 20.

Damn shame that Iron Work will be a waste, due to currouption and distance from Forgotten Palace.I know we can't jump the FP, but I think the brighter head should consider if we should move our palace - I just wonder if the cities around Seattle, New Orleans, Boston and Memphis might not be more useful to us ... Given that our FP is so close - Dark chocolate - if we palace-jumped, Dark-Blue rpobably wouldn't even notice the difference in terms of corruption - it is only 2 squares from Dark Choc, and even Osaka is only 5 squares away (2E, 3SE).I don't know how to do palace jump's, so if wiser heads could look and consider ...

At 2.8.0, we get Sci Meth in 7 turn, but -99gpt, as opposed to 3.7.0, where we have sci meth in 9 turns, -29 gpt.


Hmm - Perisa now have electricity (prev turn, only india had it). I can get Corp and 4 GP and WM from eng for elect. I'm going to do it, since 2 others civ's have it already. I hope that this isn't a $#@#$.... But i feel we have to try and get something for it ...

Since it often works at higher tech rates that you "gain turns ) i.e. 3.70 = 9turns, whereas 2.8.0 = 2, I'm going to go with the expensive option - we need to try and make sure we win this race, I think. How say you ?

dark blue fact in 1. I have reduced it's spt to 25 to maximize those avail to Osaka.

Our top 3 SPT cities are now :

Dark Choc 20 (size 9!) factory in 6

We will see which is best after 2 tirns for the 2nd pre-build. Dark Blue will definitely be our main pre-build - I can get it to clise to 30 now, and it doesn't have a factory yet.

I think that Kyoto can go up a little in prod, and Dark Choc looks good. Osaka will take a hit next turn, when I maximize Dark Blues prod for the pre-build.

MM St Louis to avoid Riot. Taxman + 5 happy, 1 content, 5 unhappy now.

Sci Rate 2.8.0 = sci meth (6 turns), -99gpt. slider of 3.7.0 = sci meth (7 turns), -31 gpt. We have gaimed a turn for the cost of 70g (if we had stayed on 3.7.0 last turn, I think we'd still be on 8 turns). As we add more lib's and uni's, beakers should go up. I don't THINK we are going to get there any faster, and since we can't build the ToE in 7 turns, or 8, should we slow tech ? We don't have forums - they are down, so I'm going to go back to more profitable speed - we can't trade it away for the AI will start building, and we won't catch the advantage it has. We can always speed up in 2 turns time.

SLIDER set to 5.5.0. Sci Meth in 10 turns, +87 gpt. With a broken rep, we need hard cash to buy things...

NOTE - I have improved Dark Choso to use best food to grow in 7 turns instead of 14. Factory stays the same. When it grows to size 12, we should be able to get 28 spt PRE facctory, so altogether maybe 40 to 42 after factory. UNFORTUNATELY, it doesn't have a river, so it cannot pre build Hoovers.

Prime candidate for Hoovers is would typically be KYOT, except for 2 things. There is nothing to pre-build, it already has the palace, and it would also mean no palace jump anytime soon.

Thus I reckon that Osaka is our Hoover pre-build candidate, unless a palace switch helps some other city.

Note to next players - the 7 workers on desert next to Kyoto should road, then mine, then rail. Kyoto had 4 food spare, so I moved this to the desert square (we are getting 1 shield). When you are done, we will get another 2 shields, and 2 comm.


Well - I hope I didn't stuff up too badly. Looking back I shouldn't have shoved the Sci rate to 2.8.0 for that 1 turn, since in the end it makes more sense (I think & hope) to build our money a bit, and get the pre-build there asap.

Tech and Money sit :

Persia have Nat, Sanit, Refining, Steel and 1522G (down 184 from 2 turns ago!). Annoyed
Eng have Nat, Refin, 0G. Annoyed
India have Nat, 34 g. Polite.

PS - Check dark choc - I think I accidentally undid those changes. If so, you should be able to move and take the tiles E,SE ; E,NE and 2NE, without losing any prod time for the factory.
