Cumulative Geography Quiz

Now I remeber, it is a certain place in Bolivia, tho' all time consistent, high rainfall in an inhabited place is Cherrapunji

Well, nobody got it and I have a plane to catch. So the answer, according to geography.net, is

Buenaventira, Colombia 267"

The place is inhabited and recieves 267 inches a year.

The others:

WETTEST INHABITED PLACES
(Rain fall in inches per year)
Buenaventira, Colombia 267"
Monrovia, Liberia 202"
Pagp Pago, American Samoa 198"
Moulein, Burma (Myanmar 192"
Lae, Papua New Guinea 183"
Baguio, Philippines180"
Sylhet, Bangladesht 178"

So, I think I will give it to India because he answered a location very close to both Moulein, Myanmar, and Sylhet, Bangledesh.

Good luck!

My reply is he is back and the question to the geography quiz is...

The monsoons are about to begin, so I will ask a fairly simple q about it.

What is the origin of the word Monsoon and which language is it taken from?

Isn't that question kind of historical, rather than geographical?

Add: Comes fr Hindi, meaning storms or something like that?

Actually the Monsoons are the most important thing an Indian student learns in high school geography and forms a significant chunk of the portions, I should know, I aced that test;)

Anyway, it does not come from Hindi and does not mean storms. Try again.:)

I think it means 'season', which you could take to mean 'period of time' quite easily.

Polymath and duke york are close, but I want the original word and language as well.

It comes from "mausim", meaing "season".

History_buff and Andycapp have got it right.:goodjob:

But on the basis of FCFS, I will grant it to Andycapp

Your turn.

It's amazing what obscure facts lodge in ones brain. Err, a question huh?

OK, name the countries that claim portions of Antartica. I'm NOT looking for countries that have bases there although I suspect most, if not all claimants would.

And remember you're not supposed to be looking this up anywhere folks - goodluck!
