Cumulative PM-based History Quiz III

no, you will finish 17th of 134,604 members of CFC, quite an achievement ;)

134604? It seems like yesterday that we made the 100.000. Maybe I'm getting old.

Rambuchan makes a sterling submission of 36 points. This puts him in third place

1. Adler17........45
2. Illdisposed....39

5. philippe........32
6. Taliesin........29

I suspect that obliterate's coveted position at the bottom isn't going to last...

Are you planning to take it or did you suspect that Cata was aiming for it? He might have been aiming for it, but he just missed... Heretic Cata scores 10 points.

Kudos to Ciceronian for the map question 4. It was really fun. :goodjob:

It'd have to be a pretty good effort to beat my score. It's that low you could probably beat me blind-folded.

Oh, that makes it easy, considering the penalties on the multiple choice questions. You can get a negative score!

Which reminds me, I promised Ciceronian that I would have a bloody good moan about the quiz, you know, just like old times, and not just for a whine about the unashamed Eurocentricism plastered all over it, which need not be mentioned really.

But, the policy of having points deducted is quite objectionable. It is a slur on the otherwise generous and good humoured spirit of the quiz, both this one specifically and all those that have gone before. To punish a plucky participant for taking part, for having a go, for not being afraid to try their best, well, it's a disgrace quite frankly. It sends entirely the wrong message to budding young quiz contestants, who may think that getting into these quizzes might be something fun, a 'joy-of-history-affirming' activity, if you will. Instead, here we are, with such a policy, basically saying 'if you're not good enough and if you put one foot wrong then you will pay the price'. This is introducing fear into the fun of history.

And, as has just been pointed out, such a policy opens up the door to the utterly ludicrous possibility of one coming away with a minus score. And whoever heard of that!? Really, this nonsense has to stop. Otherwise I'll be making a loud and public boycott of this whole seedy charade.

Any news on when the answers will be released? As far as I understand, the quiz was concluded on the 27th.

Sorry guys, I didn't even realise the deadline had already passed. As there are one or two people who promised to submit but seem not to have gotten around to it yet, and I haven't been able to write up the answers yet, I shall extend the deadline by about a week to Tuesday the 12th of February.

And people, please don't lissen to Rambuchan's slanderous criticisms. The idea of having points deducted is a truly loopy one, and could only have sprung from a mind as perverse as his. ;) Once you make four mistakes on the questions in question, you are already at 0 and can have no mor points taken away. One candidate (Ozbenno) has already been put off attempting these questions, and he and everyone else who hasn't attempted them yet should feel free to give them their best shot.

Besides Ozbenno, our resident master theologian Plotinus has also made a submission. I will post their scores once I have marked their efforts.

Thanks a lot for that.:) I apologize for procrastinating, but I had my good reasons this time. But finally I have some time to dig into your quiz. And I am aiming for the top spot.

Does anyone ever do that?:p

I have finally gotten around to mark Ozbenno's and Plotinus' entries. They score 24 and 10 points respectively. To give them a chance to respond and correct/add to their submissions I have extended the deadline to Sunday, the 17th of February. This is the last delay of the deadline, promise. It will also give luceafarul and Till a chance to make submissions.

/shameless advertising :D

Heretic_Cata: Your quiz is pretty good fun. I had a bash but I haven't had time to get through very much of it. Then I accidentally threw away the notes I'd made on the few answers I did manage to get through! My apologies for that and congrats on an interesting and informative selection of questions. It deserves to live on.
