Current (SVN) development discussion thread

Okay I've uploaded saves of an Egypt game I used to show this. It show Egypt before, during, and after revolution and anarchy with no change whatsoever in stability. I'm going to try re-uploading the new commit again.

P.S. If it helps, I have Windows 8 and have to update from a different folder on the Desktop and then copy it into the RFC-DoC folder in Civ4 BTS.

The AI seems to prioritize the Oracle much more now and the Great Cothon much less. In my India games, it seems nearly impossible to get the Oracle after turn 70, when I used to be able to get it as late as turn 110. Is there a reason for this/is it intentional?

^You were Egypt. You have the benefit of starting out with the correct civic and cost reduction resources already.
For others, it's not as easy and you have to break your neck and even settle for a non-Classical tech if you want to get it.

I think there is some randomness there. With China I sometimes manage to grab Currency (~turn 100) while I often can't get the Great Cothon, even though I have stone and decent production.

China can build the Gardens and the Pyramids by turn 50, unfortunately often one of the others is even faster :D

How do you guys download this? is my computer not good enough or something. I went to the SVN repository and when I tried to download it it said the directory was to big. what am I supposed to do

My (SVN-) RFC DoC is at 1.4 GB. Not small, but come on, my computer is OLD (some people here have compared it to a toaster and, honestly, it is only marginally faster than my phone, but still...who cares about 1-2 GB these days?).

It takes some time to download, and sometimes it isn't that easy (if you have limited privilegies or something), but it is worth it, and - at least in this case - size shouldn't matter ;)

Gardens > the Pyramids. You don't want to whip too much after calendar, and you'll eventually research civil service (combined with the grand canal...), and +3 health is crucial for your inland capital.

The Great Cothon is not hard to get, just you prepare 3 forests to chop. 3 forests = 180 hammer. GC needs only 200.

I actually whip quite a lot. Not in my Chinese cities, but in my Korean&Japanese cities. Plus Manila and the City in Southern China, close to the Bananas & Copper.
Whipping non-core-cities also can help with the stability, if needed.
Due to the many calendar-res I often whip untill I have 4 or 5 angry faces due to whipping and then let them grow. This way they quickly get all the necessary buildings and then grow while the angry faces slowly fade.

The Gardens give +2 people, well...but their + GE-bonus is their most important feature, sure.
The Cothon...well I research Mathematics before I go for sailing, so sometimes it really is a close call with the Cothon.

Check my "enter industrial era before 1200" thread. Research masonry-polytheism-sailing first, you can get it in turn 49. Then settle Japan gold, you'll found it sweet.

What does "Joining the war on your side is not possible for us" mean?
I am currently playing as Arabia and the annoying UHV where I have to controll Maghreb requires me to vasallize Cordoba (I refuse to fight them as that would seem even more weird).
But they always answer me this when I ask them to become my vasall.

And the only civ I am at war with is Spain (which they are also), plus both independents (they as well) and the natives (everyone is), so I don't get it :(

edit: hm, he made peace with Spain the turn before, so I did too and now its "sorry it's out of our hands" which I don't understand either -.-

I'm having anther problem w/ the SVN; when I try to run it, I get this:

(see attachment)

Any of you guys run into this as well? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.:(

"Joining the war on your side is not possible for us"

means that they probably have a peace agreement or something with the civ you're at war with, I think.

I'm sure Tachywaxon can explain it better, but he doesn't seem to be around anymore.

Don't expect to start any of the additional modules (Varietas Delectat or the Soundtrack module) with the SVN version, they are not compatible. At least it looks like that's what you were attempting to do there.
