Current (SVN) development discussion thread

Leoreth, at the moment it isn't specified that a city building the Statue of Liberty has to be coastal. It really annoyed me that I wasted 7 turns teching to Democracy only to find out I can't build it  Maybe make it require a harbour?

You're probably right, but I want to address the barbarians as a whole later on, which is better than changing single aspects of it.

Version 1.11 or actually 2.0 ?

Yes! The Almoravid dynasty collapsed the Ghana Empire and generally raided West Africa to get control of the gold produced there. Fighting Mali isn't entirely accurate but the best approximation we can get.

It's always great to learn new things, it's a lesson for those who think that video games can only lead people to become total morons.

Harbors don't explicitly say they need water either ... it's just how the game does it. The only way to tell is looking at the picture in the civilopedia.

Soon, after the whole new civ stuff is complete, so within this version still.

Edit: fixed the 3000 BC problem, and made sure Marrakesh exists there as well to aid Moorish expansion in the Maghreb.

Hello, still downloading SVN-version(my internet is really slow today)...
Leoreth,is Tibet already playable?
Did you add the flag that I send you?
Did you add my Suryavarman LH?
I also have a Naresuan LH in the database that you could use as himself.

No, the Moors have been the latest change. And I'm going to do Congo next.

You can build it everywhere in default BtS (and it has the same picture with it standing in the water) so that's why I was confused. You can just add a sentence saying 'Can only be built in coastal cities' too.
Oh, and turned out I had a Black Sea city able to build it (playing Russia) so it wasn't that much of a problem after all.

Leoreth,

Many thanks again for creating a great mod & for being available here on the forum.

A quick suggestion for the Moors - include Tartalus (the Libyian city) in the definition of the Maghreb - otherwise, there is not really space enough for three cities.

Between Marrakesh and Tunis. That way Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia are all established.

Yes, between the dye and the wheat. It's a reasonably good city, although not as good as Marrakesh.
Edit : 1N of dye and 1W of wheat actually.

Vassal name suggestions when the Moors are masters:

Spain - Emirate of Leon
France - Emirate of Toulouse
Italy - Kalbid Emirates
Arabs- Abbasid Emirates
Holy Roman Empire - Emirate of Germany (until Prussia, then it's) Emirate of Austria
England - Emirate of Wessex
Vikings - Kalmar Emirates
Prussia: Emirate of Germany
Russia - Slavic Emirates
Byzantines - Emirate of Constantinople
Greeks- Emirate of Athens
Malinese - Saadi Emirate
Ottomans - Taifa of Anatolia
Egyptians - Taifa of Egypt
Polish - Emirates of Lublin
Aztecs - Mexican Emirates
Incans - Peruvian Emirates
And the rest I highly doubt

I was sort of expecting the Moors to be last, as they seemed like the most change, rather than a filler.

And yes, it was France always taking Barcelona that I did not like. Two European Christian civs should not be required to fight each other until no Islam civs are left in Europe.

Also, could Spain be given a little more stability love in North Africa? No more settling the okay Melilla.

Without La Mezquita, Cordoba is an easy burn for player Spain to then settle Cadiz, which after burning Lisbon is a way better city. The North African cities can spread the Islam to get the wonders.

This is why Cordoba desperately needs some kind of buff, mainly a probable La Mezquita by around Spanish spawn (I wouldn't mind having it just a little later with maybe Engineering, even at the same time as Portugal with Guilds), to make it a worthwhile city not to burn.

Yes, and they usually do, but Arabia pursues it like crazy so they never manage it. I'm currently trying to make Arabia like it less.

I wouldn't go overboard with that, though, since the Moors won't be in every game. I'd rather see the Arabs build it than the Mughals or Mali.

I dunno, Taifa really only seems like something that should be used to historically islamic countries. Portugal was kind of made out of the Crusades, so they're really not islamic.

I'd say the 'Taifa' term for Portugal as vassal of the Moors might be fitting. Maybe even for Spain. Only looked at the wikipedia, but it seems the term was pretty specific to Iberia even though I wouldn't describe that situation as typical vassal since there wasn't a single King/Emir/Calif at the top but an oligarchy instead.

Currently the Moors themselves becomes Taifas when they run City States.

From what I've seen from the AI over four America 600 AD starts, Moors makes for a weaker Spain, like not getting conqueror events as much as before, really weak without capturing Cordoba, and therefore a stronger Portugal, like Brazil, Africa, Grenada, 3/4 times a conqueror event, and up in northeastern Canada twice.
