I've only played one game so far with the latest SVN patch. Aside from the frequent crashes, here's the main problem so far:

Byzantine empire starts with nothing. Sure Other civs can't declare war, but what ends up happening is barbs just easily kill them. I'd recommend starting them off with two of their UU's so they can at least survive.
