A little disappointed that the inforgraphic designer decided to use a CGI image from a youtube video for the Tsar Bomba.

Especially when actual pictures of the explosion exist and are far better looking.

probably more expensive for much of it

Why do you think so? I'd expect such an increase in competition to drive costs down, and quality up.

I get that an umbrella company with a lot more resources can help drive costs down as well, but these mega corporations usually inflate prices as high as they can, and buy up competition wherever possible.

There is competition. Vertical integration cuts production/input costs, plus economies of scale reduce costs further. They can drive prices up but what's to stop a competitor from entering the market when they do? These products generally have low entry costs.

Hmm what you say sounds sensible enough, and re-reading my posts I think what I initially said is a bit too extreme.

Hypothetically speaking, what if we balanced the vertical stuff a bit and increased competition, so basically mega corporations broken up into medium or large sized companies instead of tiny ones. Wouldn't that retain the benefits of vertical integration while increasing competition and all the benefits that come with that? Also hypothetically speaking, let's say we express all this in the form of a graph/mathematical equations and try to maximize certain variables, I suspect that the optimal company size is not going to be 10 mega companies owning everything. But I admit I am an armchair economist at best, and actually not an economist in any way at all.

I think I remember though that an oligarchy type situation can lead to mega corporations colluding and excluding new businesses from entering the marketplace. Or something like that.

Yes, actually. What with stock markets and all, it's possible.

A joint venture or different regions maybe.

Guess I directly should've checked the wiki.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nestea
Nestea is a brand of iced tea manufactured by Coca-Cola and distributed by Nestlé company's beverage department in the United States and by Beverage Partners Worldwide (BPW), a joint venture between The Coca-Cola Company and Nestlé, in the rest of the world.

@warpus it can go both ways. Monopoly conditions mean that monopolizing allows for cheaper prices than competition. Monopolies means the ability to raise prices above competition.

How do you pronounce "Toronto" ?

T09XgSC.png

Locals who live in Toronto that I know and most people in the area pronounce it like this: "Tronno/Tronna", sort of in between the 3rd and 4th panel

Looks like I still have some 905 left in me.

Either
tɹɑ:n.oʊ

Or
tə.ɹɑ:n.toʊ

Usually depending on whether or not it's the focus.

Also the usual complaints about imprecise non-IPA phonetic spelling systems. I have no idea what distinction they're trying to draw between "toe" and "oh".

Toe is toe. As in, the things on your feet. Oh is what my wife says when we're getting intimate or what I say when she's not into it. (Full disclosure: I do not have a wife)

I can't figure out how you pronounce it, because I'm not familiar with that system. I would guess most people aren't, but maybe I'm wrong?

Like most places, how much of a native you are is measured by how many letters in the name you think are silent.
