Trohtîn Wiolants heir, Ewald, paused while approaching his father to look upon him for a moment. Trohtîn Wiolants face had aged quickly these past few years. The Aorsi were active, even if it was to the south, the natives had been rebellious as ever, and the Nerwian strife made an unstable neighbor dangerous not simply irritating. All of that and more was constantly on the Trohtîns mind. Ewald was unsure he wanted that responsibility. He much preferred training as a warrior and facing raiders in combat to dealing with the struggles among the people Walhia, most of which were caused by forces outside Walhia. Ewald realized he had delayed long enough and continued to walk forward once more. Unsurprisingly his father didnt even notice him until he shuffled his feet loudly on the last few steps of his approach. Trohtîn Wiolant looked up and smiled at his heir.
What news my son?
Esteemed father, Ewald inclined head politely and his father motioned for him to continue, It appears we do have some friends beyond our borders despite the situation nearby.
So what have they agreed to?
Ewald smiled this would be the best news his father had heard in months. They would like to have closer ties, more trade, and even some help with our plan.
Trohtîn Wiolant stood from his seat and a small portion of worry seemed to leave his face. So perhaps we will be okay after all.
I believe so, as you also know we are continuing talks with certain others and those are still very hesitant, but I think we can get them to see which way the wind is blowing.
Trohtîn Wiolant nodded and whispered a silent prayer of thanks to Wodan for giving him the wisdom to chase this chance.
We will of course have to step in soon, someone is going to make a mistake and involve us. With all the fighting going on around us it is as inevitable as the winter. The thing is where and when will we be drawn in? Thankfully the Iberians seem to be amenable to solidifying our relations and maybe even becoming friends. Trohtîn Wiolant chuckled to himself. Whod have known it was possible. Here we are surrounded and yet things change.
Indeed, our friends to the north have also indicated a willingness to improve our relations and trade as well, I assume we intend to chase that as well?
Of course son! It is much better if we have friends than to be at war constantly. Though it is unavoidable and I do see the signs of its coming.
Ewald nodded and smiled. The world was interesting and for a while longer Walhia would still be in it and would even be prospering. Perhaps being the Trohtîn wouldnt be so bad after all.
