DarthNES II - Superpowers

@JTK - Sending aid to other nations could do a lot of things, possibly denying a rival cities or establishing a strong buffer between a rival and you economy being the clearest applications.

NPCs that are given aid would most certainly be grateful, and would be much more likely to sign an alliance or something similar.

As for when an alliance would begin...when would you send the offer? I would respond as quickly as I could on behalf of the NPC.

The difference between sending 1c over three turns to 10c over 5 turns would be the NPC could buy more military equipment (because of more money) and would be more friendly (see 'reliant') with the player.

Hmm, I see. So its a way of solely denying cities to other player nations by making it much harder for them to take the country.

My question about the alliance thing was general, not specific. But I think I understand it to be that if you agree to fund a nation, its not really meaning they are allying with you, just that they may be strong enough to bloody any rival's forces.

EDIT: I agree about the player limit...in order for a game like this to truly work, each superpower should have a player...come on lurkers, just join it and give it a chance!

Do we assume that through the magic of the NES all nations' nuclear arsenals have disappeared?

We could just say that a brief era of peace and understanding led to the dismantlement of the world's nuclear arsenals. Really, it doesn't matter. If you want yours back, do the research and buy yourself some shiny new missiles.

That's one reason to do it, but I'm sure people can think of others.

Also, I promise everyone that I will not be the one to end this NES. I plan on seeing this through to the very end. It would be you, the players, who would kill this. As long as I have dedicated players, this NES will be successful.

Republic of India.

Nigeria please

Feel free to send your stuff for Update 0. I'd like to get them by Wednesday, and I could have the update up same day.

I have enough people now, but I'd love to get some players in Latin America and Oceania. Vietnam, Indonesia, the Austral Union, Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina are still open.

I'd like to be Brazil~
It's big and large and would give me good area to play with domestically while being mostly isolationist, which I kinda want this time around. : )

I'll be getting Update 0 out fairly soonish. For it, I need PMs of the names of your nation's leaders and name changes to armies/fleets/air wings (if you want). It would more or less feature a map with the positions of your militaries.

Tecknojock, welcome to NESing!

I just had a thought. Why isn't Israel a power? I mean, if Vietnam and Nigeria are world powers, something must had gone horribly wrong to Israel (Or is it just too small to count?).

I'll be Mexico, btw.

I can't find the unit costs, except for military police. Also, just to be sure, we pay interest on our debts, right? Is there a standard rate if so?

10% every 5 turns.

Unit costs are down on the 2nd post. I guess Isreal is marginalized by Dar-al-Islam and its control of Westbank/Gaza. I hope EU saves it from Islamic domination.

Starting info sent with inaugural address.

To The World
From the United Islamic Republic

Greetings to all the world's rulers and benefactors. We hope a general peace can be maintained throughout the globe. To stress this notion, and to protect our fellow brothers in Islam, we hope to maintain that no nation of the Middle East or North Africa be unjustly invaded.

Let peace thrive for a thousand thousand generations!

OOC: Map to be posted highlighting the aforementioned nations under protection.

@Darth - I'm assuming that my nation is not remotely close to being a secular one, am I right? How about the government?

Toteone, please read all the information on the first page. There lies the answers to all your questions.

Israel isn't a superpower for a number of reasons (population, neighbors, decreasing amount of aid, etc), not that it matters. However, I do assure you that they have a formidable military.

With this rare moment of peace in this world, we would like the ask you all to refrain from violence... and to sign this nuclear bomb test ban treaty. We all know what nuclear bombs and their threats have caused to this world, and since we have gotten rid of them once safety, we hope we will have learned our lesson.

Does that include Orion Drive testing? Because that is essentially letting off a nuclear bomb behind a ship.

We refrain from signing this threaty. We wish for all options of defending our peoples to be avalible. If that means spiltting the atom, then we shall have to do so.

From our files, we have determined that Orion Drive is a proposed type of engine for use in Space using contained nuclear explosions much greater than that of a standard powerplant for say, a super carrier or a nuclear submarine. If there is a way to test it without providing data for nuclear bombs that endanger, we might sanction it if the treaty is passed. However, with the possible dangers of fallout for the testing on earth, as well as the large possible payload and easy access of side research to full-out nuclear bombs, we consider that Orion Drive will be banned under an Earth-wide nuclear bomb ban treaty.

Of course, this assessment is only to find those who seek a new era of relative peace. Together, we can draft a full treaty and find ways to contain renegades and, perhaps, allow Orion Drive testing in near space or beyond.

We are sad that you feel this way, for your words and the actions they directly lead to might strike enough fear for a second cold war. Nontheless, we do not condone this action. However, we just suggest that perhaps those funds might be better used for conventional defense as well as other ways of research.

OOC: Technically, it was banned in the 1963 partial test ban treaty for the atmosphere, and blocked by the soviets for the rear of military use.
