CAUCASUS BURN

Azerbaijanis flee from air dropped white phosphorous munitions

Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan - In a brutal bombing campaign against the their southern neighbors, Russian aircraft firebombed various targets across Armenia and Azerbaijan. The specific use of white phosphorous ordinance to destroy industrial and military targets did not achieve their expected effect. Instead of destroying buildings and vehicles, which would have been best achieved with napalm, the white phosphorous terrorized people, both military and civilian. Minor structural damage was achieved, but nothing more than small to medium sized fires, but human casualties number in the low thousands.

Russian bombers and strike fighters of the 16th and 17th Air Armies struck targets in Armenia and Azerbaijan respectively. The targets were caught off guard at first, but as bombing runs continued, efforts to stop them were organized. Mobile surface-to-air missile systems in both countries were quickly dispatched to outside urban areas to try and down enemy aircraft before reaching their targets. Several Russian aircraft were shot down, which brought the attacks to a halt. Military forces of both Azerbaijan and Armenia are now organizing as best they can to prepare for a Russian invasion, all the while dealing with the issue of maimed civilians throughout the nations.

AD DAMMAM DISAPPEARS AS ENTIRE COUNTRY BENDS

UIR forces occupy the Al-Shemal district of Riyadh

Riyadh, United Islamic Republic - After months of relentless bombardment, the city of Ad Dammām has finally crumbled, and with it the sovereignty of the Saudi state. What were once city streets and public squares are now piles of rubble and twisted metal. Buildings of all sizes have become shattered hulks of what they once were. UIR forces, upon seeing that the city was no more, moved in to wipe out the last of the Saudi Army. The fiercest fighting seen in the war was what awaited them as Saudi forces sought to avenge the death of their people. The fight nearly ended in a Saudi victory, but the arrival of the Mediterranean Fleet and the end of the defenders’ naval support led to their demise. After the battle, with no more enemies to fight, the haggard Army of Babylon, which had fought without ground support for the entire war, walked into Riyadh.

At home, joyous crowds packed the central squares of Cairo, Damascus, Baghdad, and Algiers to celebrate the UIR’s victory over one of the strongest nations in the region. In Riyadh, the mood is more somber, not only for the conquered Saudis, but for their conquerors, the Army of Babylon. Faced with heavy casualties throughout the war, the army now finds itself depleted and weary. It will require a considerable amount of time and effort until the force is back to adequate strength.

MEXICANS PUSH WITHOUT YANKS

gunship.jpg

Mexican gunship fires on Cuban forces near Santa Cruz del Sur

Camagüey, Occupied Cuba - Mexican forces pressed forward with the invasion of Cuba this year without expected help from the United States, which was to be used to help crush defenders in cities. The lack of American support meant several battles were fought in cities, but combat was just as likely in the tobacco and sugarcane fields. The goal for the Mexicans was to reach the outskirts of Havana by the end of the month, but with no support from both the American First Army and their own Flota del Caribe, it couldn’t be met by any means.

The Ejército del Sur began with a sweep towards Las Tunas, which met no resistance until the town itself was reached. A light skirmish ensued which served mostly as way for the Cubans to gauge the strength of their foe. Moving northwest, the Mexicans encountered countless raids by small groups of Cuban infantry, which hindered their movement. The real fighting started in Camagüey, which had been evacuated by Cuban forces days before the attack. Mexican artillery began bombarding what looked like hard points in the city in preparation for the actual assault. Upon entering the city, infantry were happy to see that the bombardment cut passages through the city’s labyrinth-esc layout, allowing vehicles better mobility through the city. While in the city, ambushes occurred frequently, but were quickly snuffed out by gunship and artillery strikes, which lead to its capture. Further to the west lay the strongest parts of the Cuban army, armed with heavy weapons and equipment.

MISSILES MAUL MINDANAO

A missile from the Japanese destroyer, JDS Chōkai, heads for a motor pool near Digos.

Davao, Occupied Philippines - The Japanese, continuing with their trend towards fireworks displays, began a large scale assault on Davao and the surrounding area. Mobile rocket artillery and ship-to-shore batteries pelted Filipino positions with high-explosive ordinance, causing as much panic as it did physical damage. Japanese ground forces then stormed into Davao facing unexpectedly light resistance. What defenders are left on the island are scattered in the north and are in no position to put up an adequate defense.

In the north, on Luzon, the Philippine Army prepared to launch a counter attack on the Army of Honshu which sat in the northeast. Much of the Philippine Army’s heavy weapons were dedicated to the attack which promised for a bloody battle. When the attack was carried out, the Filipinos were surprised to see only a handful of Japanese infantry. It just so happens that the Japanese forces retreated the previous night and missed the fighting by a few hours. The Philippine forces have now spread out across the northern coast of the island in anticipation for the return of the Japanese.

Indonesians Finally Victorious

Dili, Republic of Indonesia - The Indonesian military flaunted its first ever victory this month as naval and ground forces crushed the tiny nation of East Timor. The small nation was bombarded relentlessly by warships of the Eastern Fleet while the TNI AD - West, recently reinforced with heavy weapons and vehicles, was transported to Indonesian Timor. Ground forces swept across the nation, quickly overwhelming what forces that weren’t obliterated by missile salvos. The victory has been heralded by the government as the first of many military victories, and the people are happy indeed, all the while being kept in the dark about how minuscule the East Timorese military was.

More Islands Fall to Aussies

Nouméa, Austral Union - The Australians continued following in Japan’s footsteps by conquering another chain of islands this month. The same forces dedicated towards taking the Solomon Islands were shipped south to secure the islands of Vanuatu. Faced with overwhelming numbers and technical superiority, the approximately 400 soldiers/policemen quickly surrendered. The Aussies now control what could be a perfect set of bases to strike further east into the Pacific and look poised to move into the western hemisphere.

Europeans Poised to Strike Balkans

Pécs, European Federation - In either a display of power or preparation for war, the European Federation has restationed its crack Altes Heer along the border of European Hungary and independent Croatia. The army, which is a mere stone’s throw away from Zagreb, has moved in response of the ousting of European diplomats from the former Yugoslav republics. It is not clear whether the force is there to fight the Croats or merely intimidate them, but regardless, the move is one which the nations of the Balkans cannot ignore.

European Space Agency Ups the Ante

Paris, European Federation - In the wake of the Indians, the Europeans appear to be set to be second into space. Significant increases in funding have made it possible for a European space mission to be made next month. European scientists are eager to finally reach the final frontier so they can begin utilizing it to their advantage.

Brazilian Armies Link Up in Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Occupied Bolivia - After encountering problems last month, Brazilian forces have managed to capture the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, aka Santa Cruz. A sudden order change for the Southeastern Army called for a change of direction from a direct assault into the heavily defended mountains south of Potosi to a movement towards Santa Cruz. Bolivian forces defending the city suddenly found themselves nearly surrounded, and fled north to take up positions near Cochabamba. Brazilian forces now have unrestricted access to the Bolivian lowlands in the north and east, but must press into the seeming fortress of the Bolivian Andes.

Demonstrations Gain Momentum

Brasilia, Republic of Brazil - Protest in Brazil and Argentina are beginning to increase in number and size, especially in Brazil. Demonstrators continue to fight against the cooperation between the two states, but additional anti-government protests are beginning to address the economic issues associated with the massive debt. President Ricardo Honorato de Moraes’ past promises to decrease the debt back to its January levels have not been kept so far, and governmental deficit spending over the past few months has not helped east the minds of Brazilians.

Cambodian Raid Finds Cache

Seim Reap, Kingdom of Cambodia - A raid by the Royal Gendarmerie of Cambodia near the town of Chong Kal uncovered a large collection of small arms in what is believed to be a Khmer Rouge safe house. Hundreds of automatic weapons were found and quickly seized by the Cambodian government. The discovery is just another reminder of the tensions that have plagued the nation for years.

Beira Falls, Mozambicans On the Run

Beira, Occupied Mozambique - Forces of the Union of South Africa secured much of central Mozambique this month, eliminating enemy forces in the south and capturing the city of Beira. The Second Legion slowly pressed the defenders northward while the First Legion, unknown by the Mozambicans, barreled south from Zimbabwe towards their rear. By the time the defenders knew what was going on, it was too late and their annihilation was quick. Demands for surrender were rejected by the Mozambicans, who have now concentrated all their remaining forces towards defending the northern portion of the country from along the Zambezi River.

OOC

I was missing orders from Nigeria (Matt0088), China (JTK), the United States (Terrance888), and Argentina (andis-1). If any of you miss sending orders again, you will be given the boot. I do have others interested in playing.

Please please PLEASE, stop asking if nations will join you willingly. The only way they will is if you are holding a gun to their head.

I am slowly running out of pictures for updates. Feel free to send me some, I may be able to use them. They don't need to be for your own nation.

If there are any problems with your stats, let me know and I'll fix it.

Deadline for Update 5 orders is Sunday, April 17th at 8:00pm CST

People need to send orders! :aargh:

To Arabia
We will be devoting significant resources to rebuild your tattered nation. We are all brothers in Islam, and you are not to be treated as the vanquished; you are equals in our great nation.

You fought valiantly and well. For months you continued your brave service without selfish intentions, and for that you shall be rewarded.

@Terrance - Your orders were four days late and submitted while I was putting the finishing touches on the update. They weren't going to be accepted. Also, I had no idea you quit.

to DarthNader

Well, I used to think everyone checks the WWW thread every once in a while, but I guess not. Anyway, if you want, you can switch me out. Its your NES and I promise I won't complain about it if you determine if I am not involved enough, or am not playing the way you wanted, or am somehow messing up or sending confusing orders or asks too much annoying questions. I understand all that. If someone else is more motivated, doesn't have the semi time-crunch I have and you feel will offer more, I completely understand.

I calls da China!

You gots da China!

@Terrance: I'm not going to decide whether you leave or not. If you want to keep playing, play. If not, I don't take you leaving personally. To be honest, I have no complaints with you what so ever.

EDIT: I recommend everyone read the part in the rules about debt. Just giving you all a heads up.

Can we take out loans from other players to cover our debt to avoid the stability hit? And how exactly do you calculate the cost for metros, you just said half, but half of our economy or total credits?

A player could send aid to another player, but there will be no one to enforce the repayment but yourselves. Its no big deal, but you do need to follow the rules for supplying aid. However, you can't spend that aid on anything but military stuff (units, training, etc).

The cost of metropolises is in the rules, right above the rules for supplying aid.

Glorious Russian Armed Forces Strike Fear Into the Hearts of the Enemy
Within the past month, under the order of President Mikhail Yilenekov and the near-unanimous approval of governmental officials throughout the nation, bombing of the invalid states of Armenia and Azerbaijan began. Correspondents on the ground were unavailable for comment, however, an interview with several military insiders revealed that these military actions against the unnatural Azerbaijani and Armenian governments have gone exceptionally well, contrary to foreign pigdog reports. Clearly the people of these "nations" will be soon returned to the warm embrace of Russia, liberated from their oppressors who would seek to enslave them beneath separate national banners. The actions of our glorious government in Belarus and now Azerbaijan and Armenia are a testament to the Russian determination to bring about the end of invalid regimes and their dictators. President Yilenekov spoke out in support of the actions of China and the United Islamic Republic in Myanmar and Saudi Arabia respectively. Forward, Russians!

saudi-arabia-flag.jpg

Invalid Saudi Arabian State Crumbles; United Islamic Republic Victorious!
As so many of you are doubtless aware, this month the city of Ad Dammam, the last center of organized Saudi Arabian resistance against the glorious liberating armies of the United Islamic Republic, finally surrendered. Its citizens, like the rest of the citizens of former-Saudi Arabia, are now well and truly free of their detestable oppressor "government", and the establishment of just law and order by the United Islamic Republic can begin. President Yilenekov spoke out in support of Russia's Islamic allies following the surrender, affirming Russia's support for Saudi Arabia's placement at its rightful seat within the Islamic Republic, and the enmity he shares with his Islamic counterpart for the evils of the Saudi Arabian government. The people of Arabia are free at last!

The Philippines: Not long for this world!
In similar developments in the Pacific, the army and navy of Japan continue to batter the forces of the invalid Philippine state. Members of President Yilenekov's cabinet have confirmed that once, assuredly, the surrender of the Philippine government is delivered to Japanese forces he will speak out in support of our Japanese allies. In interviews with citizens on the streets of Moscow, and the streets of cities throughout Russia, the Russian people are deemed by the Bureau of Statistics to be "sufficiently excited". Sergei Ichenko of Yakutsk was quoted as saying on the matter "I know a Japanese guy. I fully support this conflict and all the conflicts of our government's allies. Go Russia and allies!"

Foreign Pigdog Aggression Against Cuba Continues
The United States of America and its Mexican lackeys continue to make war against Cuba. Their efforts have been noted for their laughable incapability. Following a geographical botching by American and Mexican generals regarding the location of the Cuban capital of Havana, Mexican forces have been forced to seize the attack against the Cuban armies alone, with no assistance from their American "allies". Our reporters on the ground confirmed the rumors that while the Mexicans bring the battle to the enemy, American soldiers are sitting pretty in the sun. Footage of American soldiers playing volleyball with captured Cuban girls can be viewed on Channel 7 News Moscow. More evidence of the duplicity of pigdog foreigners. The only non-Russian you can trust is an ally of Russia, so say the Russian people. The Bureau of Statistics reports no deviation from this line. This glorious Federation continues to be united!

War in the Balkans?
The forces of the European Federation have amassed along its Hungarian-Croatian border in what can only appear to be a preparation for war against Croatia. Officials of the glorious government of this Russian Federation were unavailable for comment, however, Associate Professor Yeltsin Fyodorov offered to provide his informed analysis of the events. His words are as follows,

"The European Federation has demonstrated in the Baltics, and will demonstrate in the Balkans, its commitment to rampant aggressionism against states which stand inconveniently against it in its campaign of unlawful conquest and the resultant dereliction of international standards. I went to school for political science, trust me."
