Darths and Droids Mafia- Game Thread

Well.... Zack and Mergle are geniouses and BL is the new Visorslash.... http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ProperlyParanoid indeed....

This game could have gone either way. In the end, the RNG on the SK lynch decided the galaxy, though Visor's untimly end was also important. Congratulations for Zack to winning the game, though I wonder if the cult would have won earlier (but less memorably) otherwise... Honestly, by the end, I was utterly convinced in your townieness. Same to Mergle, who probably deserves the best player of the game award for fighting the RNG god, inactive allies and a town of buetproof vests, and managing not only to survive, but to be the SECOND IN COMMAND of the town network (well actually, 1 cultist, 1 mafia and 1 townie...).

Sorry that I could not be useful long after I died, my schedual exploded IRL....

Well, I was going to post the role PM's, but then the internet ate my post. :gripe:

I'm a bit too pissed off by that and tired to post them now, so they'll be posted tomorrow.

This reasoning extremely flawed.

1. As I pointed out many, many times already -- Mergle and Jarrema came up with the idea to kill azzaman, I agreed with it and relayed the order.

Didn't say you gave the order, just that you were happy for me to die.

2. There was legitimate reason to suspect you were cult. If I were not cult, I would have looked to you as the most likely cultist. Confirmed town early, not on anyone's radar -- perfect conversion target. I'm puzzled why mechaerik converted traius/Ravus rather than you, frankly.

It's not like my actions ever would've indicated that I was converted. But then again, Ravus and yourself both managed to avoid changing how you acted, so that's probably a null tell.

3. As I pointed out many, many times already -- the scan cleared me from being mafia or any third-party. And despite the fact that Mergle turned out to be mafia, it was a legitimate scan. I was cleared of being cult because a) I tried to kill mechaerik, the cult leader, with my limited use vigilante ability, b) I ordered mechaerik killed and roleblocked Nights 5 and 6, meaning he could not have recruited me (as has already been pointed out, johnhughthom, for whatever reason, never actually sent in the order to block mechaerik -- this is why he was quickly killed the next night by the cult, so he couldn't spill any beans; however, there was no way of anyone outside of the cult knowing this, nor was there any reason to suspect it), c) I DID kill a cultist with my limited use vigilante ability, and d) Autolycus protected me Nights 4 and 5, which meant I could not have possibly been recruited on those nights. In conclusion, all of those meant that: 1) I was not the cult leader, 2) As of Night 2, I was town, 3) I could not have been converted on Nights 4 or 5 (and no one could have been converted on Nights 5 and 6, including me, assuming JHT blocked mechaerik), and 4) I could not have been recruited after Night 6 (and neither could anyone else), because the cult leader was dead. That leaves the only possible night for conversion as Night 3, and if you wanted to go with that, you also had to believe that I attacked my cult leader for no apparent reason Day 5, and actually straight-up killed a fellow cult member Day 10.

You can't seriously expect me to base my reads on things that I had no idea were happening, can you?

4. People have an inherent bias when they are the target. It's why OMGUS is even a thing -- whether consciously or subconsciously, (all other things equal) you are always going to think someone voting for you is more likely to be mafia than someone voting for some other guy. To illustrate this, let's use an analogy. Let's say a man is being tried for murdering a four-year-old girl. Who do you think is more likely to think the murderer worthy of the death penalty -- the girl's father, or some random stranger? It's the same concept, and it's why no one takes OMGUS votes/accusations seriously.

It may have been flawed logic, but I began to suspect you based on your desire to obtain the orb. My death almost immediately after keeping the orb out of your hands just screamed scum to me.

Unknown facts are unknown. It doesn't matter what the true logical path is when human players just see a guy get whacked that had a shiny orb, they are obviously going to suspect who wanted the shiny orb. I mean It's shiny! To hell with the logical reason to kill off the person, it obviously has to all be about the orb.

*shrug*

Backwards Logic has been playing for a looong time, IIRC even longer than Pizzaguy or choxorn.

I posted that in the thread roughly eleventy billion times.

I posted that in the thread roughly eleventy billion times.

But I already didn't trust you, especially with no one else from the town network publicly backing it up (from memory). You posting that it was practically impossible for you to have been converted was not very convincing, as far as I was concerned.

It's true. BL is kinda the granddaddy of us all, at this point. Good lord, am I the second-longest standing player here? I think I started one game before choxorn. Now I feel ancient.

You started playing NOTW before me, but I was playing mafia a bit before that. I think I was also playing mafia a bit before Backwards Logic was playing NOTW, as I remember co-hosting a non-mafia forum game (specifically, RfMK 3) waaay back in 2007-2008 that contained some of his first posts on CFC. He might have been playing mafia elsewhere before that, though.

If we're going by first game of either original Clue-based Mafia, NOTW, or anything, then I think Catharsis is the one who's been around the longest that still occasionally plays.

The only difference between mafia and NOTW is that NOTW can have more wierd mechanics, storyline and ruleset?

Way to make a guy feel ancient. Thanks guys! :old:

My first game was Catharsis' NOTW XVI: Operation Enduring Freedom. That game was hilarious and got me hooked on mafia NOTW. Mafia then was way different than mafia now. Before that was RFMK III as England. Ah, the good ol' days...

Check the NOTW thread for a more comprehensive list, but no talking at night, everyone has a role (that's in thread, like tavern worker or what have you), setting/more storyline focused. Secret voices and so on.

Yeah, I've been around longer than that at least in clue mafia, although I maintain that Catharsis was playing this at least a few months before I was.

Nooooo!!!!!
Also, sorry for my previous behaviour. For the record, I was not cult when I left, but town. So I went unhinged, but not like ninjacow in the Smurf game when he was sussed out. Just... combined frustration. Of coursem I kind of won, sort of, so maybe the link shouldn't be my opinion. But I was town when I left the game, and town lost.

Unhinged would be an understatement about Smurf Mafia. ;)
