Darths and Droids Mafia- Game Thread

Well, I was going to post the role PM's, but then the internet ate my post. :gripe:

I'm a bit too pissed off by that and tired to post them now, so they'll be posted tomorrow.

Well, I meant tomorrow in choxorn time. I secretly inhabit a bubble in an alternate dimension in which time flows at different rates than it does in the rest of the universe. For me it's not tomorrow yet. :mischief:

A non-Washingtonian has heard of cities in Washington that aren't Seattle? What is this sorcery?

Egads! Most of those are actually cities!

Sorry, I've just had a busy week is all. I'll get them posted over the weekend.

ROLE PM's:

Town:

askthepizzaguy:

Spoiler :
R2-D2

R2D22.jpg

Ability: Metagaming Munchkin: At night, target one player. You will use Pete’s metagaming abilities and disregard for the separation between the players and the characters the play to find out whether or not they’re a PC-controlled character, and if they are, which PC controls them.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Using your ability, scan at least one character of three different PC’s.
Controlling PC: Pete

You are R2-D2, the Short, Mute, and insanely min-maxed savior of the galaxy, or at least that’s what Pete had in mind when he decided to take a few penalties for high levels of skills like repair that sounded like they’d be useful in an RPG set IN SPACEEEEE!!! It doesn’t always work out as well as you’d like, but at least you get to annoy the GM and the other players to no end.

Being a munchkin, you don’t usually pay attention to things like “roleplaying” or “player-character separation” or “talking in character, because you’re not supposed to be able to talk in character”, which lets you know things that Pete should know, but R2 shouldn’t, like who the other players are and what characters they control.

Had the ability to scan for PC-ness, which basically just amounted to slight flavor scanning. It wasn't generally useful against anti-townies, as only Nute Gunray had a cover role that was a PC.

He died early, which was sad because Pizza was roleplaying Pete so hilariously.

Autolycus:

Spoiler :
Qui-Gon Jinn

QuiGon.jpg

Ability: Summon Bigger Fish: At night, you can target one player. If anyone else tries to target that player with an ability, you will Summon a Bigger Fish and chase them off. You can’t use this on yourself.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Using your ability, prevent at least two anti-townies from using their abilities on townies.
Controlling PC: Jim

You are Qui-Gon Jinn, Cheddar Monk Jedi Master and Fish Summoner. Or at least, Jim, the PC who created you, thinks you have the ability to summon bigger fish because of one time it sort of happened when you were in that underwater ship on Naboo. As Jim is prone to doing this sort of thing without thinking about it and coming up with his own explanations before the GM gets a chance to explain things, he keeps attempting to summon the bigger fish.

Whether or not you actually are capable of summoning bigger fishes, you can at least say that a surprisingly large number of bigger fishes appear right when you need them to, say, chase away a smaller fish, or a bad guy who’s shooting at the PC’s.

As soon as I started typing this role, I knew the ability had to have something to do with Summon Bigger Fish. It would have been a crime against comedy to not put a joke about that here. I had a few ideas for what it could do, ultimately settling for it protecting someone from all abilities used on them. Ended up being fairly powerful, as Autolycus had a knack for targeting people that other people also targeted, and completed his PG several times over. The protection from other things was mostly meant as an anti-cult weapon, and it did that job well, blocking two of mechaerik's recruitability scans. It also blocked a ton of other innocent scans, and I think at least one kill.

azzaman333:

Spoiler :
Owen Lars

OwenLars4.jpg

Ability: Paranoid Minds Think Alike: You don’t trust many people, but you’re certain that your wife Beru, JoanK, is Innocent.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: At least one of your family members (other than you) survives the game.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Owen Lars, a moisture farmer on Tattooine. It’s been a tough life that’s made you kind of a paranoid lunatic, but you think most people would probably become paranoid lunatics if their step-brothers orchestrated the creation of a hostile dictatorship and they ended up having to hide said step-brother’s son from said dictatorship for 20 years. And try not to keep him from learning his own identity, lest he follow in his father’s footsteps.

At least you haven’t had to do it alone; you’ve had the help of your wife Beru, a fellow paranoid lunatic. Having spent the last 20 years hiding on a farm with her, you’re pretty certain you can trust her, even if you can’t trust anyone else.

One of the two Lars masons. Both were somewhat victims of me getting lazy with my character design at the end and running out of ideas, as they were fairly vanilla while the other mason pair had actual abilities, and I wish I could have come up with more ideas for characters like these guys, though it would have been slightly funnier for a member of this mason pair to get converted to cult than one of the Maul/Fett pair.

His PG was also an "I'm lazy" thing to a certain extent, as I gave the same PG to Beru and Shmi. For those wondering, the family consisted of Beru, Owen, Shmi, Luke, Anakin, and Padme.

Backwards Logic:

Spoiler :
Captain Antilles

Antilles4.jpg

Ability: Out of Character: You can vote while dead.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Using your ability, vote for whoever was most responsible for your demise.
Controlling PC: Jim

You are Raymus Antilles, Captain of the Tantive IV. Or were, as, sadly, Jim has had a nasty tendency to see all of his characters die as of late. Luckily, he seems to be fully capable of talking in any situation, whether he is underwater, in a room full of poison gas, in a location far away from the person he’s talking to, unconscious and bleeding to death, or indeed, already dead.

So, despite the fact that you will most likely be dead soon, you should still be able to vote. That seems nice. You should use it for…. REVENGE! HAHAHAHAHA!

One of the last characters I designed, and a considered cutting him a few times before I came up with the dead-voter idea and realized I didn't have any better ideas, then decided that Captain Antilles was by far the best fit for the ability.

I'm not really sure how I would have made his PG work if he had been lynched; I probably would have made it to vote for the first to vote for him, or the one who most actively tried to get him lynched, or the one who cast the vote that put him in the lead for the last time, or something like that.

One of the most prominent members in the "Would have been interesting if converted by cult" club.

Buddhafish:

Spoiler :
Ponda Baba

PondaBaba.jpg

Ability: teh bukkit, you will kikkit: At night, Twice in the game, you can get a list of everyone who is being targeted by someone with a kill ability that night. This will extend the night phase by 24 hours. Be warned, anybody can change their orders in the extended phase, including said killers.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Use your ability to help prevent the deaths of at least two townies.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Ponda Boba, a regular of the Mos Eisley Cantina. Your hobbies include jokes, pranks, practical jokes, practical pranks, jokes that are slightly impractical, jokes that aren’t even remotely practical, jokes so impractical that they stretch the limits of believability, and drinking. You are often joined in this your friend and fellow bar regular, Dr. Evazan.

You are quite fond of either threatening people or telling them they’ll die. They rarely believe you, but sometimes, you actually are fairly certain they’re going to die. Not that that means you’re not joking MOST of the time, it just means you aren’t joking ALL the time.

One of the one-scene wonders from the Mos Eisley Cantina, I flipped back and forth for a while for including them or not, finally going with "That part was really hilarious and I should totally put them in because Rule of Funny"

Not sure how I came up with his ability for him and it doesn't fit the character much, but it happened. As to the PG, he saved himself the first time he used it (and also got the Mafia and SK to kill JoanK instead of SamSniped, which was probably a net positive). He didn't technically save anyone the second time, but his use of the ability convinced Xenoneb to switch his kill from unprotected johnhughthom to protected Jarrema, so I decided to give him credit for that.

CivCube:

Spoiler :
Jango Fett

JangoFett.jpg

Abilities:
Partner: Your partner, Jango Fett, is Dreadnought. You are certain they’re innocent.
Private Detective: At night, you can target one player. You will steal an item from them, if they have any items.

Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Obi-Wan Kenobi must die.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Jango Fett, Private Detective and template for a massive army of clones. They’re good at shooting things, but they seem to have replaced all of their brains with splanches. Oh well, guess your brains should be enough to make up for that.

Palpatine hired you and your partner, Jango Fett, to investigate what the Trade Federation was doing and get him the Lost Orb of Phantastacoria. You don’t really care about the Orb at all, but you like money, so you’ll happily find it for him. You also hate the PC’s for all the crazy things they did while you and Maul were actually doing all the hard work on the Trade Federation’s control ship. You especially hate that Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

One of the Maul/Fett Investigator Mason Pair. Their abilities combined to work well together; Maul could scan for items and Fett could steal them. Not super powerful, as items weren't super common, but could have helped the town find the Lost Orb of Phantastacoria (or the Cult, had one or both been converted), and could have been interesting.

So of course they both die in the first few days.

I probably should have made his PG to outlive Obi-Wan, rather than Obi-Wan just having to die.

CivGeneral:

Spoiler :
Boss Nass

BossNass.jpg

Ability: None
Item: Lost Orb of Phantastacoria: An ancient artifact of great power that can be used to power some things. It grants you the power to break ties in the vote.
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: The Orb is in the hands of the Town for at least half of the game.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Boss Nass, the ruler of Otoh Gunga. For a long time, you wished to acquire the Lost Orb of Phantastacoria, and now, thanks to the PC’s, you finally have it. Guess you won’t have to eat them after all.

You’d like to hold on to the Orb, as it is shiny and makes people respect your votes more, although you’d be fine with other people having it, so long as they’re townies. The Trade Federation used it to blow up the Moon, and you shudder at the thought of what other unsavory types might do with it, or what the Feds would do with it if they got it again.

A tiebreaker. Mostly he existed to give the Lost Orb of Phantastacoria a place to start. He held it for about half of the game by lurking, which did at least keep it out of the hands of anti-townies.

Depending on who held it, it could either power up someone's abilities (Zack's and Mergle's, for instance), or give somebody a tiebreaker ability if they had no relevant ability to give a power up to.

To be honest, I hadn't worked out all of the effects on abilities it would have at the start of the game, but it ended up not mattering, as it was only ever held by two players who were effectively vanilla innocents (CG and azzaman) and two players who had abilities which were among the first I'd worked out (Zack and Mergle).

classical hero/NinjaCow64:

Spoiler :
Chewbacca

Chewbacca4.jpg

Ability: Radioactive Wookie-gram: At night, you can target one player. They will be protected from kills, but unable to perform any night actions.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Prevent at least two deaths with your ability.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Chewbacca, a Wookie of high class and higher taste, which of course leads you to constantly get into crazy situations because of your friend, Greedo/Han Solo/Whatever he calls himself these days (and, a while ago, you knew that old Jedi named Yoda who also did some crazy things… good times, good times). O, how you long for the days when you weren’t constantly getting handcuffed and jumping into garbage compactors.

You also long for the days when people weren't constantly mistaking you for a Radioactive Wookie-Gram. Oh well, you could at least try to use that to keep them away from other people- or just bash them in the face and throw them in a prison cell, that will also keep them away from other people.

A jailer. Not much I have to say about this. He did a few interesting things, but mostly wasn't interesting aside from NinjaCow's mild paranoia and inability to know when to stop talking.

As a side note, I somehow forgot to give both him and Watto a personal goal, and didn't notice until after I sent the role PM's. :wallbash: :cringe:

Darth Caesar:

Spoiler :
Greedo, a.k.a. Han Solo

Han4.jpg

Ability: Shoot First: If you are lynched, you can kill one of the people who voted for you.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: At least 3 of the PC-controlled characters survive the game.
Controlling PC: Jim

At first, your name was Greedo, and you spoke a very bad Italian Accent, but then you took the name “Han Solo” after meeting a shapeshifter-pilot named Han Solo in a bar and taking his identity (and shot first to take his life, but that’s another story). You are also a pilot. Sort of. You can… be in the cockpit of a spaceship and push buttons. That counts as being a pilot, right?

Your constant shooting first annoys others, but comes in handy if you get into fights, especially deadly ones, like so many of Jim's previous characters, may they rest in peace.

The Human Greedo/Han Solo. I have to admit that even I had trouble remembering which one was which at times. :crazyeye: This one was a vengeful lynchee that lurked while he was alive and ended up getting lynched and using his shot on fellow lurker CivGeneral.

He came surprisingly close to completing his PG- several PC's almost survived to the end.

Dreadnought:

Spoiler :
Darth Maul

U0Htc.jpg

Abilities:
Partner: Your partner, Jango Fett, is CivCube. You are certain they’re innocent.
Private Detective: At night, you can target one player. You will learn what items, if any, they have.

Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Find the Lost Orb of Phantastacoria and at least one other item with your ability.
Controlling PC: NPC

You’re Maul. Darth Maul, Private Detective. You’d give the PC’s your card, but the only time they ever bothered to listen to you was when there were only two in the area and one was bleeding to death and the other was hanging from a ledge over a bottomless pit.

Palpatine hired you and your partner, Jango Fett, to investigate what the Trade Federation was doing and get him the Lost Orb of Phantastacoria. You don’t really care about the Orb at all, but you like money, so you’ll happily find it for him.

The other member of the investigator mason pair. He died really quickly, so I have little to really say about him. Writing a write-up involvling a Count Dooku-General Grievous-Darth Maul lightsaber batte was kind of fun, though.

As a side-note, I found most of the role PM pictures on the comic's cast pages, and even cut a few characters for not having pictures in those pages. (Rune Haako, for instance, though I'm not sure he's even a character in the comic) Darth Maul was the one exception- despite being a fairly major character, he has no picture in Phantasmal Malevolence's cast page, so I just found a suitably sized picture with google image search and made it look like a picture from the cast page. I'm satisfied with the result.

Gone 3 the Celt:

Spoiler :
Yoda

Yoda3.jpg

Ability: Crazy Awesome: At night, you can attempt to vig-kill one player.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Using your ability, kill an anti-townie.
Controlling PC: Sally

Yoda, you are. Head of the Jedi Order, you are. Leader of the Jedi Council, you are. Old, you are. Talk using strange vocabulary, you do, because like to use strange speech patterns and accents, the GM does, and continue using this speech pattern, Sally did.

A total badass, you are. Use your great Jedi powers and wicked acrobatic moves to attack people, you can. Try to find and kill the bad guys, you should.

The innocent vigilante. I spent a while being unable to make up my mind whether the vigilante should be Yoda or Mace Windu, ultimately going with Yoda and making Mace the cover role for Nute Gunray. In either case, I named the ability "Crazy Awesome" because they're both crazy awesome, as is Sally.

Gone 3 the Celt mostly hit townies or not at all, and eventually basically became a second night-kill for Zack and Mergle, though he did manage to kill mechaerik.

Jarrema:

Spoiler :
Luke Amidala, a.k.a. Adam Lars, a.k.a. Luke Starkiller

AdamLars.jpg

Ability: None
Items: Underwater Oxygen Extraction Apparatus: Twice in the game, you can make yourself immune to night-kills.
Grappling Hook: Twice in the game, you can target a player at night to see who they target that night.
Pair of Binoculars: Twice in the game, you can target a player at night to see everyone who targets them that night.
Spread-Spectrum Black-Body Alpha-Wave Suppressor: Twice in the game, you can make someone else immune to night-kills.
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Use all of your items at least once.
Controlling PC: Corey

You are Luke… um… Amidala? Or is it Adam Lars? Starkiller? You’re not even sure what your name is any more, as you keep getting reveals about who you are and what these guys did in the past, and you invented a new one (“Starkiller”) because Amidala wasn’t inconspicuous enough. Corey, the PC in control of you, doesn’t really know what he’s doing, as he’s more used to the types of RPG’s that you need a computer to play, rather than dice, character sheets, and a lifetime supply of Cheetos. His lack of familiarity with these kinds of games (and the fact that he’s the nephew of Pete, munchkin extraordinare) leads to some weird things sometimes.

You've accumulated a bunch of cool items, most of which were passed down to you by one of your parents. Well, "passed down by Anakin" isn't totally correct, more like "wrested from his burning corpse by Obi-Wan", but, that's irrelevant, right?

I had trouble coming up with good ideas for this character, and I couldn't come up with enough items for the game, so I just decided to kill two birds with one stone and give him a bunch of two-use items. Yes, all of those actually exist in the comic. He has the binoculars at the start, Obi-Wan gave him two of them from Padme, and R2 looted the one with the long name from a Jawa.

He used all of them exactly twice, though not all of them did much good. He was a huge help in catching both BSmith and mecharik with his tracking and watching abilities.

JoanK:

Spoiler :
Beru Lars

BeruLars.jpg

Ability: Paranoid Minds Think Alike: You don’t trust many people, but you’re certain that your husband Owen, azzaman333, is Innocent.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: At least one of your family members (other than you) survives the game.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Beru Lars, a moisture farmer on Tattooine. It’s been a tough life that’s made you kind of a paranoid lunatic, but you think most people would probably become paranoid lunatics if their husbands’ step-brothers orchestrated the creation of a hostile dictatorship and they ended up having to hide said step-brother’s son from said dictatorship for 20 years. And try not to keep him from learning his own identity, lest he follow in his father’s footsteps.

At least you haven’t had to do it alone; you’ve had the help of your husband Owen, a fellow paranoid lunatic. Having spent the last 20 years hiding on a farm with him, you’re pretty certain you can trust him, even if you can’t trust anyone else.

The other Lars Mason. Not much I have to say about Beru that I didn't aleady say about Owen.

johnhughthom:

Spoiler :
Obi-Wan Kenobi

ObiWan.jpg

Ability: Disarm: At night, you can target one player. If they try to do anything, you will disarm them, preventing them from doing anything until they get a new arm tomorrow morning. (Don’t ask how this works, it… it just works, okay?)
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Use your ability to disarm someone who is trying to kill a PC-controlled character.
Controlling PC: Ben

You are Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Knight and owner of a totally awesome beard (or at least, the older version of you has an awesome beard). You were created by the PC Ben, who is possibly the only sane member of the gaming group, and probably the best at coming up with clever plans (that don’t involve taking over the Galaxy- that’s more Pete and Annie’s thing), which has enabled him to come up with such clever ideas as using a lightsaber to remove peoples’s weapons from their hands. Sadly, he tends to roll badly every time he tries this, but not so badly he fails completely- but badly enough that he usually misses a bit, and “Disarm” becomes more literal. Eh, it’s not that bad. You don’t always cut people’s arms off, but when you do, they always end up dying anyway from something completely unrelated or get their arms back (you’re not sure if that one guy in the Mos Eisley Cantina could actually regenerate or not, but even if he couldn’t, he probably just got one of those robot arms or something), so, no harm in trying, right?

The innocent roleblocker. I contemplated making him a doctor for a while because Obi-Wan seems to be designated for that role in Star Wars mafia Games and because of the plot about Ben studying to become a doctor for a while, then decided the "Disarm" running gag was funnier, and I usually went with Rule of Funny when designing the roles.

His PG was too arbitrarily difficult, as were I think a few others, not that he ever even came close to stopping any killer at all (though he did contemplate roleblocking Xenoneb on Night Six, which would have completed his PG even though Xenoneb failed to kill Jarrema that night anyway)

Kennigit:

Spoiler :
Padme Amidala

Padme2.jpg

Ability: Goatees Are Evil: At night, you can target one player to determine whether or not they have a beard.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Using your ability, scan Sio Bibble, or scan at least 3 Beard Owners who are not Sio Bibble.
Controlling PC: Jim

You are Padme Amidala, the Queen, and later Senator, of Naboo. You were elected to Queen at the age of 14 for great wisdom and popularity, but how you got those at the age of 14 is a mystery, perhaps only known to Sally’s abilities to create some incredibly implausible things, and perhaps to the PC Jim gaining control of you after his original character died, which caused you to become a lot more like Jim (meaning you clearly aren’t wise anymore, although you’re still popular enough to be elected Senator… go figure).

Jim absolutely doesn’t trust anyone with Goatees, despite his original character having one. He especially distrusts the Queen’s Advisor, Sio Bibble, for no particular reason at all other than his Goatee.

I knew I had to make one of Jim's roles Goatee-related, ultimately deciding to go with this one after I made Qui-Gon a protector. It was useful for determining flavor and whether someone was who they said they were, and also a great fountain of GM trollery, as seen when he scanned Jango Fett as having a beard.

The complete list of beard owners: Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Jango, Owen Lars, Count Dooku, Watto, and Bail Organa. Funnily, he would have scanned Sio Bibble as not having a beard, since Dofine lacked one.

Despite only living for 5 nights, he managed to scan 3 of them and complete his PG, though looking back, I forgot to apply spaceman's ability on the night that Kennigit scanned him, which may or may not have made a difference.

Mat93:

Spoiler :
Shmi Skywalker

Shmi.jpg

Ability: Mob Boss: You have a few… connections… which can make your vote a bit more important. Your vote counts as two votes.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: At least one of your family members (other than you) survives the game.
Controlling PC: Annie

You are Shmi Skywalker. You and your son Anakin are slaves of the Tattooine junkyard owner Watto- or at least he was until the PC’s showed up and Qui-Gon, being Qui-Gon, messed up a lot of things. Annie, the PC who created you and was introduced to the game by Ben, was kind of slow to understand how RPG players act in games, which led to much hilarity when confronted with such things as Kleptomaniac Heroes, Death Races, and the shenanigans of this particular party (by which I mean the shenanigans of Jim and Pete).

You’re also secretly a mob boss, or at least, Jim thinks your mob boss. You know what, you’re a mob boss, let’s just go with that.

At some point, I decided that an ability referring to Jim's constant talking about how there was secretly a mob that Anakin and Shmi were members of would be funny for Shmi. At some later point I decided making the ability a Double-Voter ability made sense for some reason, and thus this role was created.

His ability only made a notable influence on the game on the day of the mecaherik-Xenoneb "tie," which effectively means Shmi unintentionally allowed her son to win- made somewhat more ironic as she was the only unconvertible townie who was unconvertible entirely for flavor reasons, rather than because of some ability the townie had (though a few were unconvertible for both reasons)

Town, continued:

SamSniped:

Spoiler :
C-3PO

C3PO3.jpg

Ability: Translator: At night, you can target one player. You will learn their Personal Goal.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Scan at least two anti-townies.
Controlling PC: Sally
You are C-3PO, a butler droid created by the GM to give R2 a way to talk, then discarded when he realized what a bad idea that was created by a slave on Tattooine and later somehow ended up going into SPAAAAACEEE. Your abilities include speaking a billion languages and… uh… standing? And I guess you can act a bit silly, because the PC controlling you is Sally? Yeah, let’s go with that.

Your translation abilities come in handy if you ever want to try to learn things about the goals of the other people, especially if their goals aren’t quite as noble as yours.

The Personal Goal Scanner. Way more powerful than I realized at first because of the amount of PG's that involved either the role's ability or some other very obvious indicator about who/what they were, but somewhat balanced out by the sheer number of times something rendered his scan ineffective (usually because of Autolycus's fish)

Completed his PG by scanning, IIRC, Mergle and mechaerik.

spaceman98:

Spoiler :
Watto

Watto.jpg

Ability: Roll a Die: Any abilities that target you have a 50% chance of randomly targeting somebody else.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Vote to lynch at least two anti-townies on the days when they are lynched.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Watto, seedy shopkeeper who owns a junkyard on Tattooine. You also like to race pods, and you own a couple of slaves, one of whom, a boy named Anakin, is a great mechanic that fixes your pod between races, cause it’s a dangerous sport and your pod gets dinged up a bit.

You’re also quite fond of betting, and find that many other people are too. You keep a 6-sided die with a bunch of blue and red sides around for just such an occasion, and find it to be great for convincing people to either give you lots of stuff, or at least go bother somebody else who isn’t you.

Probably the laziest role I still ended up creating, which his PG is prime evidence of. He somehow managed to not complete it despite the large number of early anti-town lynches; He was on the Xeno-wagon on Day 7, but didn't vote for SK, BSmith, or Visorslash.

Takhisis:

Spoiler :
Jar-Jar Binks

JarJar.jpg

Ability: Genius: At night, you can scan one player to learn what their Alignment is.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Scan at least two anti-townies.
Controlling PC: Sally

You are Jar-Jar Binks, Gungan General/Senator, and as everyone knows, a genius. You also, like most gungans, are kind of weird, probably because you and most of Naboo (and, hell, large chunks of the story) are the creation of Sally, a small child with a love of dinosaur-ponies and an overactive imagination, which leads to some things that are both awesome and crazy.

Because you’re a Genius, you can learn important things about people by watching them for a while, things like “Is this person going to try to kill me in my sleep?” and “Does this person like dinosaur ponies as much as I do?”

The innocent VC Scanner. I knew that whatever I made Jar-Jar's ability, it had to be somehow related to him being a genius.

I swear to God, Allah, Yahweh, Vishnu, Haile Selassie, Ahura Mazda, Zeus, Odin, Ra, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Quetzalcoatl, Russel's Teapot, Gozer the Destructor, Galactus, the Great Deku Tree, the World Spirit, the 4 Supreme Kais, Metatron, Grorious Reader Kim Jong Il, the Forerunners, the Force, Guthix, Xenu, the Almighty Random Number God, Haruhi Suzumiya, every Time Lord that exists, and any other deities or beings believed to be deities I may have forgotten about that Takhisis ending up with this role was entirely the result of randomness.

The Black Knigh:

Spoiler :
Han Solo

Greedo.jpg

Ability: Shapeshifter: At night, you can target one player. You will use your shape-shifting abilities to disguise yourself as that player. Any abilities that would target you will miss, but any abilities that would target that player have a chance of targeting you instead.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Disguise yourself as at least one character controlled by one PC, at least one controlled by a different PC, and at least one NPC.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Han Solo, a shapeshifter and pilot of an incredibly fast ship named the Millennium Falcon. It’s the ship that made a twelve parsec run in less than three standard days (not in twelve parsecs, as that is a measure of distance, and would as such be absurd). You’ve had to move around a bit ever since you pissed off Jabba the Hutt decades ago with bad advice on how to bet on a race that cost him a lot of money, but luckily for you, he allowed you a bit of time to pay it, cause apparently the winner of the race was crazy and punched your son to death about an hour after the race.

Your shapeshifting abilities have proven useful in keeping you alive so far, and you hope to adopt many new forms that will serve you well in keeping you alive in the future.

The alien Han Solo, and the hider. Mostly lurked and attracted epic amounts of suspicion for his seeming untargetability. Deserves thumbs up for figuring out Mergle was scum so early in the game, and for completing his PG on night 3 (hiding behind Takhisis and askthepizzaguy nights 1 and 2, then Mergle the entire rest of the game)

Wuher

Wuher.jpg

Ability: We puir whisky: Anyone who attacks you at night will somehow manage to end up a bit too drunk to actually harm you.
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: R2-D2 must die.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Wuher, a bartender in a cantina in Mos Eisley, aye. Ye serve whiskey to the laddies that come inte yer cantina, which fer some reason has a 100% chance of fights breaking out whenever the PC’s show up. Ye don’t really loike any of them, especially not that wee metal druid, R2-D2.

Luckily, yer good at gettin laddies drunk, and ye always somehow manage to convince them to get too drunk to harm ya before they try to kill ya, rather than after. That would be bad, aye.

Bulletproof townie who lurked for the entire game and thus attracted mild suspicion, especially because of his one survived night kill, which is exactly how not to play a character who is bulletproof.

Spoiler :
Anakin Skywalker

Anakin3.jpg

Abilities:
I sense much fear in you: At night, you can target one player to determine whether or not they are susceptible to conversion.
We have cookies: At night, you can target one player, and attempt to convert them to your side. Beware, if you attempt to convert someone who cannot be converted, they may learn your identity.
NOTE: For the first two nights, you can use both your scanning power and your conversion power simultaneously, or you can choose to use your scanning power twice. After that, you can only use one per night.
Darth Vader: You will survive the first attempt to kill you, whether by ability or by lynch.
Empire Team Ability: Two Imperials can team up to kill a player at night, although neither of them can do anything else when they do so.

Items: None
Alignment: Empire (Cult)
Victory Condition: The Empire is a majority of the remaining players, or that outcome is unavoidable.
Personal Goal: Convert Chancellor Palpatine to your side.
Controlling PC: Annie

You are Anakin Skywalker. You were once a slave of a junkyard owner on Tattooine, but then came that podrace, which you won when a Jedi injected some midi-chlorians into your bloodstream. This has given you great amounts of power, and made you a little bit insane. In fact, you kind of want to overthrow the Republic and rule the Galaxy. Shouldn’t be too hard with all the crazy things going on.

Even so, you can’t do it alone. You’ll need to recruit some more people to help you. Luckily, many are easily convinced, and you think that despite his good nature, even Palpatine can be manipulated to this end. Not all are easily convinced, though, so you’d better be careful.

The abilities here weren't much different from the Forerunners in Halo Mafia, as Buddhafish noted. The cult had the potential to get really powerful early on, but mechaerik's scans kept getting stopped or he scanned people he couldn't convert, which instead made him really weak early on. The Team Kill ability changed to only requiring one member after mechaerik died.

I decided I wanted enough unconvertible players to prevent the cult from running away with the game, while not so many that they could never get going. I ultimately made the following people unconvertible: The Mafia and Dooku (obviously), Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Jar-Jar (because they were the 4 major innocent power roles, and also for flavor reasons) and C-3PO and Shmi (mostly flavor here, though C-3PO's ability contributed to that decision a bit too)

He was the only starting anti-townie I didn't give a cover role to, since Anakin could plausibly claim to be a townie, while Dooku would have a harder time doing that and the Trade Federation trying to claim that would just be silly.

I was half-expecting the cult, BSmith, and the mafia to kill a few of each other, but that never happened.

Spoiler :
Bail Organa

BailOrgana.jpg

Ability: Senator: Once in the game, you can stop a lynch. PM choxorn by the end of the day you wish to use this ability if you wish to use it.
Items: None
Alignment: Town (Converted to Cult)
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: At least 2 Jedi survive the game.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Bail Organa, Senator of Alderaan. You ran against (and lost, obviously) Palpatine in an election for Supreme Chancellor a while ago. You don’t care that much anymore though, even if you could have been a somebody, instead of a senator, which is what you are. Well, senators are somebodies too, but… you get the point.

You still have enough political clout to prevent a lynch, once. You certainly hope you can use your abilities to keep some of the Jedi alive.

A one-shot governor, which ultimately was used to save himself on Day Two, basically wasting the town's time for a day and ultimately leading to replacement and conversion by mechaerik. Nice Job Breaking it, Hero, not that you can really be blamed for it.

"Jedi" was defined very broadly for the purposes of his PG, and included Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Anakin, Yoda, Luke, Palpatine, Dooku, and Darth Maul.

Zack:

Spoiler :
Palpatine

Palpatine2.jpg

Ability: That’s no… wait, actually it is a moon: Every night, as a passive ability, the workers building the Peace Moon will get it closer to being fully operational, unless you lose the Plans for it. It will become fully operational after 3 nights of working on it. You’ll gain a new ability when it finishes.
Items: Peace Moon Plans: Allows the Peace Moon to be constructed.
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: Build the Peace Moon and use it at least once.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Palpatine, Senator, Chancellor, Emperor-For-Life, Retired Jedi, and Five-Time Winner of Galaxy Weekly’s “Best Hair belonging to an ex-Jedi Politician” award. You’re actually concerned about the welfare of the people who elected you, probably something you got during all of your years of being a Jedi. That being said, you’re also worried about the Trade Federation’s power, and there are some things you have to do about it… things that not everyone really needs to know about.

Like the Peace Moon, for instance. Until you construct it, nobody really needs to know about that giant planet-destroying laser it has, right? It’s nothing big, just an as-a-last-resort thing if the Trade Federation gets too out-of-hand. And it won’t take too long to build it, as long as you keep control of the plans. Well, and you also need to go find a way to power it, like with the Lost Orb of Phantastacoria or something. See? Not too hard, right?

It's rare a player can be the MVP for two different teams, but Zack was arguably both the town MVP and the cult MVP. For the town, he helped catch BSmith and mechaerik (and, despite already being cult, Mergle and Ravus), and for the cult, he pulled victory from the jaws of defeat. All in all, Zack pwned everyone this game.

John roleblocked him on night 2, which slowed down the peace moon's construction by a night and led to a rather silly night result for Zack. The Peace Moon, as you have no doubt seen, was just a day kill, which recharged once every three days, which upgraded to once every two days when he got the Lost Orb of Phanstacoria. He used it to attempt to kill mechaerik and kill Ravus, which actually probably secured his victory. Bussing for the win!

Mafia:

Xenoneb:

Spoiler :
General Grievous

Grievous.jpg

Ability: Cyborgification: If you kill someone, you have a chance of either stealing any items they have or stealing their ability for one night.
Items: None
Alignment: Trade Federation (Mafia)
Victory Condition: The Trade Federation is a majority of the remaining players, or that outcome is unavoidable.
Personal Goal: Use 2 stolen abilities, or steal the Lost Orb of Phantastacoria.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are General Grievous, insane cyborg working for the Trade Federation. You were once Republic Chancellor Finis Valorum, but that name no longer has any meaning for you. You suppose you could still tell people you’re Valorum, but you doubt anyone would believe you. Fools. You will kill them all, steal their body parts and convert them into cyborgs! You’re not quite sure how to do that after they’re dead, but you’re sure it will be awesome.

Your cyborg conversion and grafting process has the added bonus of letting you use items or skills that the people you got them from once had. Maybe you can help the Federation find that Lost Orb of Phantasmal Malevolence or whatever it’s called that they want so badly, or just find a bunch of cool things that they don’t want but you can use to kill people with.

COVER ROLE:

Spoiler :
Head Jawa

HeadJawa.jpg

Ability: (This is a Cover Role, so I’ll let you come up with this on your own)
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: (This is a Cover Role, so I’ll let you come up with this on your own)
Controlling PC: NPC

You are a Jawa. You lead a group of Jawas in a Sandcrawler, going around Tattooine, looking for things that you can sell to people, which may or may not be broken, and may or may not break one day after the extended warranty that they bought expires, and may or may not break in a manner that the warranty doesn’t cover, like getting dipped in lava, or teleported into space, or eaten by Banthas.

Inspired partially by the Green Spy from Team Fortress 2 and partially by the automatic ring-theft-on-kill abilities that Mordo and Isengard had in LOTR Mafia, intended to help the Mafia get their hands on the Lost Orb of Phantastacoria.

He would always get something with his kill provided his target had something he could actually steal, though he could only get one thing if his target had more than one, which was what the "chance" in the ability referred to. He only actually used a stolen ability once (I think it was a scan).

All of the cover roles had no PG or ability or much of anything, because I figured the mafia and Serial Killer could come up with better things for that than I could, and I just wanted to give them some townie they could claim to be.

SouthernKing:

Spoiler :
TZ-4

TZ4.jpg

Ability: Reverse the Lift: At night, you can target one player. If any other players use a scanning ability on them, the ability will return a result opposite of what it normally would (e.g., a VC scan would show an Townie as being Mafia, a Tracker ability would show who targeted that player rather than who that player targeted)
Items: None
Alignment: Trade Federation (Mafia)
Victory Condition: The Trade Federation is a majority of the remaining players, or that outcome is unavoidable.
Personal Goal: Use your ability to foil at least 3 scans.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are TZ-4, a Droid working on the Invisible Hand that operates a lift, and you are highly likely to be a member of whatever lift-droid union exists that prevents lifts from being operated by anything but droids on the Invisible Hand. Well, then again, nearly everyone on the Invisible Hand is a droid anyway, so maybe Neimoidians are just too lazy to press buttons.

Some of the buttons on your elevator can do weird things to people who are trying to learn things about you, your bosses, or anyone else you want to screw around with. Don’t ask how it works, it just does. The GM hasn’t come up with a justification, and anything Jim or Sally came up with would just be silly.

COVER ROLE:

Spoiler :
Lama Su

LamaSu.jpg

Ability: (This is a Cover Role, so I’ll let you come up with this on your own)
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: (This is a Cover Role, so I’ll let you come up with this on your own)
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Lama Su, the prime minister of Kamino. You were elected to this position because you had a long neck, clearly a good qualification for being the ruler of a planet. You later saw somebody show up and ask for a massive army for the Jedi Council, cloned from a bounty hunter (or is he a private detective?) named Jango Fett. What is this army for? Who really cares?

His ability could have been a great boon to the mafia by messing with the many scanning roles in the game, and potentially could have royally screwed over mechaerik. He could have even intentionally screwed up one of Mergle's scans to really mess with people's heads.

He used it all of two times, and it did nothing both times. Lurkers are the bane of attempts to create balanced games.

Visorslash:

Spoiler :
Nute Gunray

NuteGunray2.jpg

Ability: The Moon Asplode: If you currently hold the Lost Orb of Phantastacoria, you can perform a 2nd night-kill, in addition to the one the team already has (although someone else still has to do the team kill) Alternatively, you can perform the team kill, which will not give you any extra kills, but will cause the team kill to ignore all abilities that would stop it.
Items: None
Alignment: Trade Federation (Mafia)
Victory Condition: The Trade Federation is a majority of the remaining players, or that outcome is unavoidable.
Personal Goal: Acquire the Lost Orb of Phantastacoria, and kill at least two players with it.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Nute Gunray, the diaborical reader of Tlade Fedelation. You and the lest of the Fedelation are very gleedy, and determined to conquer the Garaxy so that you can set up your tlade flanchises and make maximum plofit.

MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

You are not tellibry stlong yourself, so you mostry have your minions do the fighting for you, but you do have a coupre of nice spaceships that can shoot at things. Now, if onry you could get your hands on that Rost Orb of Phantastacolia, you could start some serious blowing up of things, like, say, moons.

COVER ROLE:

Spoiler :
Mace Windu

Ability: (This is a Cover Role, so I’ll let you come up with this on your own)
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: (This is a Cover Role, so I’ll let you come up with this on your own)
Controlling PC: Sally

You are Mace Windu, Mother-Frakking Jedi Master, and resident badass. For some reason, this means that you’re always the last to know everything, and “Why didn’t anybody ever tell me about [X]?” is practically your catchphrase when you’re not being controlled by Sally and when your catchphrase isn’t “Mother-frakking”.

Even if you are often lacking knowledge, you are still a totally crazy awesome badass mother-frakker, even when you’re being controlled by the GM (who is only a little bit awesome) rather than Sally (who is very awesome).

He never held the Orb, but he could have been a huge threat to all non-Trade Feds had he ever gotten it, giving them either two nightkills or one unstoppable night kill. And he was Visorslash, who usually kicks ass for whatever team he's on.

And he was randomly lynched on Day One.

I suppose if nothing else this gives everyone who advocates Day One lynches evidence to point to that sometimes it works very, very well.

Mergle:

Spoiler :
Dofine

Dofine3.jpg

Ability: None
Item: The Invisible Hand: At night, you can target one player. You will learn something random about them.
Alignment: Trade Federation (Mafia)
Victory Condition: The Trade Federation is a majority of the remaining players, or that outcome is unavoidable.
Personal Goal: Acquire the Lost Orb of Phantastacoria, and use the improved version of your scan at least 2 times.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Dofine, the second-in-command of Nute Gunray. Light now, you have been assigned to pirot Genelal Glievous’s shiny new ship, the Invisibru Hand. It’s not the gleatest job in the world, not the reast because Glievous is even more insane than you and Gunray are, which is saying something.

Oh well, at reast the Invisibru Hand has some nice toys, rike a scanner. You onry wish you could get it to work a bit ress landomry. Maybe that Rost Orb of Phantastacolia thing could implove it a bit…

COVER ROLE:

Spoiler :
Sio Bibble

Ability: (This is a Cover Role, so I’ll let you come up with this on your own)
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: (This is a Cover Role, so I’ll let you come up with this on your own)
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Sio Bibble, the Queen’s Advisor and Governor of Naboo. For a long time, things went well, and then the Trade Federation showed up, and now Naboo has become the chew toy of the Galaxy that the Trade Federation can’t get tired of invading. Also, the queen underwent strange personality shifts on account of going from an NPC to being controlled by Jim, who thinks you’re evil for no reason other than that you have a Goatee.

A Randomscanner, and one of the game's more fun roles. Depending on the whims of the RNG, it could either scan someone's Ability, Item, Personal Goal, Victory Condition, Beardiness, or PC-ness. The Lost Orb wouldn't completely eliminate the randomness, but would eliminate some of it; instead of randomly picking one, the RNG would randomly pick 4 of those scans at the beginning of the night, and let Mergle pick one of those to use that night.

The only one of the mafia who managed to avoid suspicion and almost won the game for them at the end. Mergle did a good job of proving why he got all those votes for Best Mafia 2012.

BSmith1068:

Spoiler :
Count Dookû

CountDooku3.jpg

Abilities:
Not So ’Armless: At night, target one player. You will attempt to kill them.
Force Drain: All night abilities will be ineffective the first time they are used on you.

Items: None
Alignment: Dooku (Serial Killer)
Victory Condition: Everyone that isn’t you is dead, or that outcome is unavoidable.
Personal Goal: Use the letter “Z” at least once in every post you make in the thread while alive, and post at least once per phase in which you’re alive.
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Le Comte Dookû, a former Jedi who is Le Space French. You ‘ave sworn to bring peace to ze galaxy, but zat seems impossible with zese crazy Zhedi running around and Le Chanzellor Palpatine trying to build a planet-destroying weapon in ze Peace Moon. And nobody will liszen to your warnings, either. Not ze Seperatists, who couldn’t care less and just want power for zemselves. Not ze Senate, which is hopelessly corrupt. And certainly not ze Jedi, but zey’re a bunch of PC’s, zo zey can’t be expected to act in a way that eez remotely rational anyway. Sacrebleu!

Well, if nobody will listen, you’ll just have to kill all who would oppose you and bring peace to the Galaxy the hard way.

COVER ROLE:

Spoiler :
Dr. Evazan

DrEvazan.jpg

Ability: (This is a Cover Role, so I’ll let you come up with this on your own)
Items: None
Alignment: Town
Victory Condition: All threats to the town are defeated.
Personal Goal: (This is a Cover Role, so I’ll let you come up with this on your own)
Controlling PC: NPC

You are Dr. Evazan. You and your friend Ponda Baba like to hang out in Mos Eisley Cantina and threaten people who talk to you- but eh, you guys are just messing around, you guys just like playing practical jokes on customers. No harm, right? Okay, maybe that one joke about splanches and farms wasn’t really “practical” and perhaps of questionable legality (in any part of the galaxy that isn’t as wretched of a hive of scum and villainy as Mos Eisley, that is), but no harm, right?

Might have been the most fun role for me to write, and certainly the coolest PG, but despite his brief time spent alive, BSmith still forgot to put a Z in a couple of his posts.

I hoped this role could be totally awesome and do bad things to everyone else while having lots of fun doing it, but instead he only killed people the mafia were killing and was lynched on day 4, after attacking someone being protected and watched, two of the few abilities his Force Drain didn't affect. Most others would, if used on him, get a result along the lines of "Your ability didn't work." As BSmith said himself, he was probably the most ineffectual serial killer ever.

I also give you the Mafia Team PM, put into a seperate post because the other two went over the 30,000 char limit:

Spoiler :
You are the Trade Federation Team. Your Goal is nothing less than complete control of the Galaxy. You are led by your Viceroy, Nute Gunray (Visorslash). Gunray and his assistant, Dofine (Mergle) aren’t the strongest fighters ever, but they are very cunning and villainous, and they have many droids to do fighting for them, like the Battle Droid TZ-4 (SouthernKing). And when battle droids aren’t enough, there’s always the 4-armed, lightsaber-wielding General Grievous (Xenoneb), an insane cyborg who was once Repubic Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum, but is now more machine than man, twisted, evil, and with a love of reciting poetry mid-battle.

Together, the 4 of you have a difficult task ahead of you, and many who will stand in your way. But you will sweep all of them aside, and rule the galaxy. POWWEERRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

You have the following Team Ability:
Wipe Them Out: At night, any one of you can target one player, and attempt to kill them. If you do, you can’t use any other abilities or items you have.

The Team Kill would be flavored based on who did it- Grievous would just attack someone himself, TZ-4 would attack in a group of battle droids, and Dofine and Nute Gunray would attack people with a space ship. Grievous was, because of his ability, generally the designated killer until he died.

He died early, which was sad because Pizza was roleplaying Pete so hilariously.
Am I the only one who finds this a lovely irony?
