DCL evolution and proposition

I haven't tested the Acken's mod at all & barely finished a game in 4 months but the little I know so far a modded DCL would be fine - preferably after all the civs have been played once.
For the sake of the Mod itself I think a some sort of common ModGame would be nice. While everyone is free to test it on their own multiple players with the same map might be fruitful as well.

If the GOTM posted Deity maps that were interesting on a regular basis, there wouldn't need to be a DCL really, but they only post 1 in 5 or 6 at that level, and those have all been really boring, IMHO.

Well I can call latest deity GOTM: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=549401 one of most interesting and suspenseful game I've ever played.

Really main difference between GOTM and DLC maps is that the first are more average on start while the second usually have better start then maps you normally would roll.

I'm happy your Maya game was so interesting. Mine was the most typical Liberty Domination game. I got bored and didn't finish.

GOTM is all about fast finish times and DiploVictory is all about timing, so if you add this two factors you can have really interesting game.

If you played domination game in GOTM with diplovictory then yes it could be boring

This is because more players who played emperor and immortal wanted to play Deity and compete. Instead of learning how to actually play the game they decided to make the starts easier and the land easier as well, making Deity easier than it should be. Example would be how many people played the Spain Map and the Babylon Map and gave it such high praise! It was obvious after the 2 maps that Grendeldef uploaded that players wanted maps like these 2 instead of maps like Rome and Polynesia.

On the other hand once you learn how to play... Deity becomes very simple as well.

I do not get into mods but if more players actually play the Acken Mod I will give it a go.

Hi all, quick question. I'm feeling very comfortable with my civ skills over the last 7 or 8 gotm. I'm ready to start playing DCL. Does each challenge game have to be won on your first attempt? Or if you get wiped out early by Alexander can I replay the game and still submit it? In other words does it operate like gotm?

Nope, it's not like GotM - this isn't a competition but a comparative experiment. Feel free to restart, reload or whatever gets you going but for the benefit of others those could/should be mentioned in the write-up as many do and to make your game worthy of writing here it doesn't have to be a win, not even a completed game. There're number of interesting stories to be told in losses.

One of the more interesting stories was Olodune's SV on the Morocco map, where he was actually one turn away from Alex getting a Diplo win by accident

How many players are there that play the DCL, AND have read this thread, AND wanna play the Acken Mod, AND use a Mac/Linux computer?

I am four for four on that count, but I will not have my feeling hurt if DCL morphs to ACLU. I think I have a sense of the cross-platform obstacle created by DLLs -- so I don’t expect that to be addressed for V mods.

No you have a lot of freedom. The point of the DCL is mostly to propose common maps for people to share experiences, results or learning. How exactly this is achieved is up to them.

The main reason why there are no "rules" is that there is no anti-cheat mechanism in civ5. Even Gotm is mostly honor based.

The saddest part of the DLL problem is that it's just a problem with releasing the code for the mac/linux so that modders can compile these too. What my mods (and others) change is likely to be an independant part of the source.

But you'd have to ask Aspyr for that . And considering modding is not even activated by default for Aspyr's releases you get the picture.

That would have been fun. I wish it had gotten mentioned four weeks ago in one of the DCL threads!
You can still download and play the game, you just can't Submit your results - however you can still personally compare your result time against the results list - and read and write your write-ups...

Thanks for the info Acker and Grendeldef

If the savefile has been removed, let me know, I have a copy. I got wiped out fairly early on that map, but it was possibly during the period in which I was the least motivated to play Civ

When will the next one be released?
