Denmark - Government-issued destruction of homes

As Imrahil91 hinted, Christiania isn't really a ghetto. It's really just a city of semi-autonomous hippies. :) (And that autonomy mostly exists on paper anyways imho) They steal and are somewhat poor, but they're part of the Danish national image, actually, especially when you're a younger Dane like me. The only real problem down there is the easy access to drugs.

So.. the main difference is that these guys seem Danish.. and they other guys don't?

Well, most Danes think that Christianians are part of the Danish tradition while ethnical minorities aren't. The Christianians aren't belonging to another ethnical group. They're just hippies.

But.. semi-autonomous enclaves are alright, as long as they're "a part of Danish tradition" ? Or am I drawing the wrong conclusion here

Actually, they've done a number of police raids on Christiania. It's mostly about the drugs though.

Your conclusion is correct.

Your conclusion is correct.

Really? I was hoping that I wasn't, because that leads me to all sorts of questions:

1. What exactly is Danish tradition? Is there an official definition?
2. Why are enclaves in non-Danish tradition not okay?

The main difference is that there is little violence and degradation in Christiania.
It's a kind of hippy's community with rather free circulation of drugs but nothing more than that.
Some parts of Christiania are experiencing some degree of gentrification with people getting residence there because it's "cool".
Tourists actually go to visit Christiania.

There is a HUGE difference between Christiania and a ghetto.

I think the Danish government is finally acting, like the Norwegians should do as well.
I think Scandinavian countries have tolerated illegality for far too long, and this attitude has damaged both natives and immigrants.

Yes you are. Christiania is not comparable to the so called "ghettos" at all (I hate calling them ghettoes btw, it's a misleading term).

The problem about these areas is that they give birth to violent criminals and religious fundamentalists - that does not mean that all people who live there are criminals and religious fundamentalist, most of them are not.

Christiania is just an old refuge for hippes who smoke weed and grow organic plants.

This is a "ghetto":

Two totally different things. Nothing to do with "Danish tradition", whatever that may be.

Christiania is a part of the Danish national image, though. That was kinda what he was asking about.

Christinia started out as a harmless hippie place, where people with long hair liked to smoke canabis and live alternatively. The current right wing government is trying to subdue Christania, which has led to some trouble with the police. Unfortunately, gangs took over much of the canabis market in Christiania, and the local hippies were too scared/unable to do anything about it. Christania is officially against hard drugs though. Of course they can still be found, but not in the same open manner as canabis.

As a problem to society however, Christania is nothing compared to the ghettos.
