This is the Des Moines Class Heavy Cruiser. The zenith of heavy cruisers as she was armed with 9-8 inch automatic guns.

CA-134 Des Moines
Six Des Moines (CA-134) class heavy cruisers were authorized in FY1942, two in FY1943, and four in FY1945 for a total of twelve. These were the largest heavy cruisers ever built, 716 feet in length and displacing almost 21,000 tons at full load. They were designed to carry the new 8-inch Mk16 gun which was the first auto-loading 8-inch gun deployed by the US Navy. The rate of fire that these ships could sustain made them more than a match for any contemporary cruiser. The four units authorized in FY1945 (CA-150 to 153) were cancelled on 28 March 1945. CA-149 was cancelled on 12 August 1945, and CA-140 to 143 were cancelled in June-July 1946. Only Des Moines (CA-134), Salem (CA-139), and Newport News (CA-148) were completed, each laid down in 1945 and commissioned 1948-49.

OH Wow...that looks like one Sweeeeeeet Ship vingrjoe. Love the Clarity and details as always and the Big Guns are great as well as the Missile coming in before the Death, nice touch...The Death animation is Great, Well Done.:goodjob:

I see that it is not a missile coming in before the death but the Fidget animation...still Great. You have done a Great job on the Gun Flash and timing...Looks more realistic indeed.

Thanks for the compliments Vuldacon. I posted a new preview without the fidget animation, so no one else would get confused. The more I looked at it, the more it did look like a missile or torpedo in the water. I should have made the boat bigger in the fidget aniamtion, oh well.

I think the speed of the small boat and the amount of white water it was sterring up at this distance appeared more like exhaust or smoke. When I looked closer, since it moved along the side of the Ship, I knew it was not a Jet or Missile.
Those Big Guns sure look Great! You really have that flash and timing down to a Reality. :D

Well... it has all been said :D - very (!) nice one with some very good new technique standards applied

Awesome Boat!

The correct term for a naval vessel of this size is ship. ;)

The best canoe ;) I have ever seen.

Outstanding! Love the burning debris flying in the death....
