I am wondering how many people came from families that gave clothes to other family members, especially clothes on children that no longer fitted them?

I was just reading about this and I wonder if families still do that today, since i know that so often that clothes would get recycled in my family and given to those who needed clothes that we know longer wore.

All the time. We recently had some friends w/ an older boy give us a bunch of clothes. We also have passed on some of our daughters clothes to friends as well.

Yes, clothes that no longer fit me that are still in good shape are passed down to PianoStudent. GuitarMan is a little chunkier than me so I'm not wearing any of his clothes yet, except one Princess Bride t-shirt that I had to steal.

With two older brothers it's been nothing but hand-me-downs when it comes to hockey gear and bicycles and stuff. Never clothes though.

My family did it when we were kids, but with adolescence comes a tendency to grumble, so it seemed to wear off it. It really only happened to my sisters, anyway, me having no significantly older male relatives close to hand.
