Did your family ever do this?

All my clothes get passed down to my sister - she rejects or keeps as necessary and the rest go to charity.

Throwing out perfectly good clothing is barbaric. I would never throw out my daughter's clothes once they get too small.

Growing up my bro was 11 years older than me so I didn't get any of his clothes, my folks gave them away long before I was ready for them.

Hand-me downs, as a child I always used to wear my brother's old clothes.
When I got a bit older I resented it a bit and got my own ones :P

That happened in my family, but we were poor and liked to recycle things like that. Today me and my brother are the same size, and we share most of our clothes with each other.

Sure. Why waste what is perfectly good?

Even "fashion" turns over in just a few years, I've noticed. The cycles seem to be getting smaller. So you just need storage space and some patience!

I am wondering how many people came from families that gave clothes to other family members, especially clothes on children that no longer fitted them?

I was just reading about this and I wonder if families still do that today, since i know that so often that clothes would get recycled in my family and given to those who needed clothes that we know longer wore.

I think you'd be crazy not to do that. e

My parents did it and do it today with my kids. We also exchange clothes with family, neighbours and friends for the kids, they just grow so fast !!!!!

My family did, but I never had any hand-me-downs myself - I'm the eldest of my siblings and cousins, so there wasn't anyone to hand anything to me.

Why put it in storage? It's gonna come back in soon enough anyway, right?

I mean, skinheads have only been out for 2 1/2 - 3 decades now, right?

In my mom's group of friends she had the oldest kid, so I used to give out clothes all the time. I had a Halloween shirt of an ice cream man and I liked it but my mom ended up giving it away :( The kid liked it.

...what? This seems like a really silly question to me. Every time I got a high school shirt I gave it to my sister. She graduates in 2014 but she be wearing class of '10 shirst and such. I just give her every shirt I stop wearing or decide was to small for me after I got it and thought it was alright at the time.

Hand-me-downs? Yeah, I wore a lot of my older brothers' stuff when I was younger.

Ditto. I wore clothes from all kinds of family members. Why not? Still do, and I make decent money.
