Disinformation 2020 and beyond

3 years of RussiaGate and you're worried about Trump's dirty tricks

yea because the proof of the problem
Is in your post. The proof of the problem is you.

You take a story. You twist the facts around that story. Then you tell a big lie about that story. Now you havee a new story to spread and misinform the world with.

Do you think US propaganda is not directed at you or not influencing your opinion?
And by the way, have you read a single positive article about Russia in US mainstream media, for the last three years?

Yes I do from childhood on, the problem is not propaganda on every level. The problem is the scale of it now.

yes I read a story about a politician trying to stop Putin. I’ll have to find it.

honestly it’s not my fault Russia is being ran by kleptocrats. I’m just trying to stop the complete takeover here.

Do you think the Mueller and Horowitz reports are lies or disinformation? The 1st one exposed RussiaGate as a hoax and the 2nd showed how the Democrats lied to the FBI and Fisa court to spy on Trump before the election. Had Trump done that I'd support his impeachment.

start your own thread if you want to rehash this garbage. Ffs

Soviet newspapers also regularly wrote about US dissidents. Angela Davis comes to mind.

well they weren’t wrong? I’m not sure of your point here. That the story about people resisting Putin is propaganda? You’ll have to clear that up.

Stories about brave dissidents resisting oppressive regimes are propaganda cliche. Doesn't mean they are always lies, but they are commonly used to paint adversary black.

Or he just gets suck of people dumping on Russia

Indeed. Red_elk and I have had disagreements in the past, but I kinda feel for him on this one. It does get frustrating to see people constantly trashing your nation and the US and Russia both get a lot of that. It's probably one of the biggest things we have in common with each other.

It's especially frustrating to see people trash your nation when they've never even visited it before or even left the confines of their own nation.

This thread will focus on misinformation campaigns in the political sphere.
It's an important topic, and definitely worthy of a thread.

However, as you have noticed, it's already overrun. I admire your tenacity in interacting with them, but I doubt I'll participate much.

Thanks for the article though. It was a good and informative read.

DISINFO: BILL GATES IS SPONSORING THE CORONAVIRUS
Last year, Bill Gates said that 33 million people could die from coronavirus in 250 days. A few months ago, the head of Microsoft held an exercise called Event 201, which simulated an outbreak of a new virus that killed 65 million people in 18 months. The idea of the teachings is simple – globalization in the name of salvation.

Last year, he said that 33 million people could die from such a coronavirus in 250 days. The calculations are purely mathematical, but true, the IT tycoon is sure. After such statements, adherents of conspiracy theories literally have no doubt that the virus is of artificial origin, and Bill Gates is one of its main sponsors. Another fact adds weight to this theory - a few months ago the head of Microsoft held a conditional exercise called Event 201, which simulated an outbreak of a new virus that killed 65 million people in 18 months.
The article in Russian original source called alleged Bill Gates involvement a conspiracy theory. But this part was lost in translation for mysterious reasons.

Thank you for perfect illustration of how propaganda works.

Yea, I should have expected it, but I'm not sure what else to do. This is infecting the US conservatives so bad they will soon in a completely different world then their neighbors. They already think the Democratic party is the biggest threat they face in life. Literally their neighbors whom they live, work, and play with.

That the website intentionally misquotes Russian sources in order to make them appear like blatant propaganda.

One of my main conundrums I had about starting this thread was sharing misinformation intentionally at all since that in itself is a form of the problem. By acting like conspiracy theorists believing it is news worthy you are spreading the propaganda. That does not happen in a vacuum. Also it seems many sources in Russia seem to be pushing this conspiracy.

You mean, if some US media source claim anti-vaxxers are conspiracy theorists it would mean this source is spreading anti-vaxxers propaganda?

It is and this is obviously very nuanced as to whether you are performing a public good or not. So whereas in this individual case you've pointed out here that would probably be in a middle area that leans to the good since they do declare it as conspiratorial, taken in conjunction with a plethora of similar stories being spread about this without calling it conspiratorial is problematic. Also not pounding it home over and over again that its a conspiracy theory not worthy or merit needs to be done as is done with anti-vaxxer stories.

This is why its so easy to muddy the waters of political discourse. There is going to be mud its how much ruins the ability to see anything at all?

You say things like this and still believe it's only conservatives that have been victims of propaganda? Take a good long look in the mirror bud. You are part of the problem.

I gave you the link and you can see doctored quote from Russian original with your own eyes.
No amount of mud can prevent you from doing that, only willful blindness.

Yeah it's one thing to trash your own nation, another thing to trash someone else's.

Also Russians are a proud people, culturally it's rude to say go to Russia and trash it there. M at e discuss politics or whatever with close friends but yeah...

It's not like Red_Elk lives in Australia for example.
