Nation Background: The Tsardom of Russia more than makes up for the liberalness of the rest of Europe with elite military units crushing all descent against the Tsar and Patriarch, to create a unified and extremely puritan Orthodox state. Since the victory of Ioann III in the Brothers war of 1682-1686 Russia has turned its attention eastward; expanding into Siberia. However Ioann’s successors may once more find Europe…distracting, particularly the activities of old enemies such as the HRE and the Turk (oh and the Kalmar union as well, but they are pretty minor in the grand scheme of things).

I actually kind of wanted Iberia, but oh well. :p First come, first serve.

OOC: Dis, is it alright if a certain painter is allowed to live in this AT at the current time. He would already be dead by now in OTL. The painter in question is the great Velazquez. He shall factor importantly in this.

Also, is it possible that the art of the Renaissance which is taking place in the HRE be Baroque in its style?

Take Nan Ming, Banana! Been forever since the 3 chinese players actually all played in east asia.

(Malaya is southeast asia for all i cared :p)

OOC: Kal'thzar and silver2039 will be really pissed off when they see this. ;) Ah well, its as curious to see where Symphony will lead Russia as it is with alex.

Confirming the Ottoman Empire.

You know how I feel about this stuff, but on the other hand, its up to Dis. Anyway, it could be a lookalike. As for Baroque, that's IMHO a little too far-off. A part of the reason it emerged as prominently as it did was the Counter-Reformation, which didn't happen in OTL for the lack of a Reformation. Then again, something similar to it is likely to take place after the last brief "renaissance" of the Gothic, to replace its comparative somberity. Meh, its up to you.

Will now go over the stats to see if you got anything wrong. ;)

Hrm, indeed. A Velazquez look-alike would be more probable, but if the recent renaissance was gothic, than I think Baroque would be, as you said, too far off. The jump of the reality of forms from Gothic to Baroque would be too great. There would need to be something in the middle, and that would, IMHO, probably end up looking like Northern-Renaissance art.

Pre-Industrial (AT)

The title scarcely applies, but you know this ofcourse. ;)

For those too lazy to check the althist thread, my repost about the culture:
It would seem that I have no time to write a summary myself, so a few things about the atmosphere/culture of this world, for the use of pretty much everybody else who needs it.

The Americas are pretty much guessable - the customs there are OTL except where they are clearly not, as in the Acolhuan Empire. The Chibchas existed in OTL and came close to forming an empire, so one could find some stuff on them as well if he wants.

Europe, for various reasons, is now most resemblant of the OTL Renaissance Europe - i.e. there is a rise of libertine thought, flourishing of art, emergence of new architectural style (after the Catholic Renaissance and the Monumental Gothic) and so forth. Heresy is on the march, but the Inquisition is ever vigilant. The whole continent has been in something of a stagnation until recently, but now the Pax Habsburgus seems likely to break down, the Greater Colonial Age is about to begin and an industrial revolution is beginning with the Venetian-style manufacturies being built. This world is fairly likely to become a steampunk, "Da Vinci Amock" one. It has been rather peaceful and humane by comparison with our world, and also more libertine - no excesses of the Spanish Inquisition, no Puritanism (except in Russia). Speaking of Russia, religiously there is a possibility of a new Council of Florence, if enough powerful people are interested.

Russia is disturbingly similar in many things to silver2039's Muscovy from NES2 V (the Church is firmly under the State's control, a powerful buerocracy has been established and an elite fanatical military force is ruthlessly putting down rebellions, plus there already was at least one genocide).

Ottoman Empire is much like the OTL one... from the early 16th century, i.e. it is on the march. Only, it is more navy-oriented (which reminds me, forgot to put in the "Ottoman Strait", do so Dis), and as mentioned there are the Genoese.

In India, Gujarat resembles a more vigorous (and Ottoman-influenced, what's with the Janissaries and all that) Sultanate of Delhi, but it might also turn out to be more short-lived, as it doesn't have much support amongst the Hindus. The Muslims like it, though.

Asia is generally as in OTL, except where it isn't. The largest difference is a flourishing maritime trade network, with resulting cultural effects - i.e. the rise of mercantilism and cosmpolitianism, though it is a steady process. In Nan Ming Empire, it is particularily problematic, as the country is divided between two large court factions - a Libertine-Mercantile one, hailing from the port cities, that is, what a surprise, in the support of more trade, stronger fleet and mildly "liberal" reforms, and a Confucianist-Agricultural one, that is against all this corruption of the traditional society and is also semiisolationist. Something like that exists in Japan, but to a lesser extent, the people there are mostly content with the gradual growth of prosperity, while the samurais that might've opposed this have been wisely send to go build an empire.

Ofcourse, these are only the general tendencies and we are in a time of great change in practically all spheres and beyond, no matter what that might mean. So its probably all going to change one way or another. This is merely to give you some sort of an idea of how things are at the start in this regard.

EDIT: Forgot to actually add about the stats...

IMHO its a bit too early for divisions. The armies were rarely that big back then. It especially shows in such countries as Affalon...

Descriptions and stats are mostly right. However:

the Tudors, a cadet branch of the Plantagenets.

Actually, they only married into them to get more legitimacy (albeit in Wales, ofcourse, the Tudors had the advantage of being the direct descendants of the Rhys). The same happened in OTL, but earlier.

brief military adventures to conquer Ireland and Iceland.

And Scotland. ;) Iceland kinda came with that.

formed out of Castile and Portugal’s fear of Aragonese power

Or rather out of Castille's uncertain relations and future combined with Portugal's fear of it coming under Aragonese control and wish to take over the Castillian resources. Okay, the above explanation also works and is shorter...

Navarre is perhaps alittle too rich - fish aside, it doesn't have much at all.

Iberian economy isn't THAT bad, after all they had a little time to recover. So up one level there, or maybe even two.

The Kalmar Union's culture might be a level higher - its not that Divided anymore. Though things are still fairly rotten in that regard. Likewise with the HRE.

(even sacking Rome at one point)

Most of it, but not all. Not sure if the Italian Campaign classifies as a raid, also. ;)

Nan Ming Size (in the stats) should probably be decreased, as right now it is equal with the much bigger Later Jin.

(taking the name “White Malays”)

That's how they eventually became known, though officially they - or their leaders anyway - were the White Rajahs. The state itself ultimately became known as the White Malaya, though at first it was self-reffered to as "Eastern Iberia" or the "Indian Empire", the foreigners, especially the Japanese, calling them affectionately the "Southern Barbarians".

Apart from that, all's fine. ;)

Nah. Reservations and applications are for elitist bourgeoisie scum, remember? :p Ain't nothing worth playing left anyway, why the hell should I give up the one thing that is?

You will pay dearly for this...I will not rest till I get Russsia even if I have to ruin if first.

Nation Background: The last shard of the once mighty Plantagenet empire seemed beset from all sides, loosing its native England and other old conquests. However the ailing empire was reborn like a phoenix under the ruthless and brilliant leadership of Francois I, fighting all its many enemies to a standstill and even reaching out to conquer the Aragonese lands in the south of France. The new kingdom has many enemies and few friends however, and restoring the Plantagenet glories will take yet more remarkable leaders against the combined Aragonese, Tudors, and all powerful Hapsburgs.

There shall be a reckining. This is free right?

Think so. Don't worry about Panda, or rather worry about him but in the other way as he's your powerful unfriendly next-door neighbour.
