DLC 05 anticipation thread

We've discussed this before. Civ: Apocalypse is what happens to the the people who don't get to go to a new planet in Beyond Earth. Remember the Great Mistake?

Convince Take-Two to purchase Bethesda first. After all, Take-Two published one of Bethesda's games.

By purchasing competing developers would legal paperwork for crossovers be eliminated and legal paperwork is the main barrier to inter-company crossovers.

That is what Disney did with Marvel Comics and LucasFilms.
Honesty, 2k couldn't do worse with Bethesda's IPs than Bethesda is doing. Is there a device they haven't re-released Skyrim on yet? (AKA: will someone please knock them off their laurels already? Skyrim wasn't even that good, especially compared to Morrowind.)

Realistically I'd probably vote for more of a 'Mad Max' style post-apocalyptic world, though a few different varieties would certainly be nice. Fallout came to mind first mainly because of the 'city building' elements they put in Fallout 4.
But Fallout has that charming super-perky 50s veneer that makes it so much creepier. :p I'm not generally into the post-apocalyptic genre, but it's that happy-go-lucky "well, gee, Chip, isn't everything just swell?" 50s veneer over a "creepy and definitely unethical experiments on people" dark side that made the franchise (or at least Fallout: New Vegas) appealing to me. (That and Odo. And Worf. And Sloan. It's just a big DS9 reunion, isn't it? And then Flynn Rider and Penny/Talis are there, too. Plus Wil Wheaton in one of the expansions...)

Oooh, this should be good for 200 posts or so!

Let's try to get a bunch in before @bite wakes up again. Really blow his mind.

congratulations you succeeded

So what are the chances of having a first look today?

I don't think it's very high, unless this is the one with a second civ or leader.

why the two civ/leader pack?

Recall, the announcement said 2 civ/scenario DLCs with 3 leaders representing SEA and Africa.

I expect that the DLC/patch will release next Thursday, with the livestream on Wednesday, and a First Look on Tuesday, but if there is a second civ or leader, then there would be two First Looks. So one would have to be today.

Note: I do not consider that to be likely. They are likely saving the DLC with the second component for DLC06.

ah yes I see where you are coming from

Like waiting for paint to dry, but less exciting.

I'd pass on any new content as long as they would release a fully functional world builder with the same features as in civ V, plus the ability to insert rows and columns of hexes into existing maps. <sigh>

Nothing, I'm sure, if you use mods...which I don't. ;) Considering both the Earth map and the Random Earth map by Firaxis in Civ5 were just fine, I don't see why a decent quality Earth map is too much to ask from Firaxis in Civ6. The current one is Standard-only and is so badly and inaccurately drawn that I'm reasonably certain a child could draw a better one. :(

Then you're really missing out. The map pack is great and has a lot of support and existed for quite some time. There is literally no reason to not use it. It's free, it is easy to download and auto update, it doesn't disable achievements or conflict with any 'real' mods (which you don't use).

It's a map pack...

What time (on EST) do the First Looks usually get released?

Wait... he's still here?

Well, this tangent's new on this thread, no offense. Usually people who want to talk about topics related to the game other than the DLC are either complaining about the AI or Firaxis's marketing strategies. Just an observation.

10AM EDT. It's already past. If you want to cling to some remaining thread of hope for a First Look today, some of the TToAH videos released at 12PM EDT, which is coming up in 10 minutes.

None taken, all I basically wrote was that I wish the "DLC" was an proper worldbuilder. ;)

I really wish for a map pack as well (preferably as free DLC).

The map pack can include more Earth maps, maps based on particular regions of the Earth (and randomized versions of them such as Civ V's Europe map, the Scramble for Africa map in Civ V, and the Outback Tycoon map in Civ VI), Terra maps (with all civs beginning on one landmass and another landmass only having city-states), as well as all of the other fun maps in Civ V.

12 PM EST has passed. No First Looks so far.

I guess best for me is to just wait and be surprised. Although when I do get surprised I might not go along with the discussions on this thread and I might need to catch up.
