DMOC's DEITY Game #1 - Gandhi

I would go HBR - Engineering - Gunpowder so you can start building WE/trebs/pikes. The muskets will be mostly drafted just before the war, 10 out of your regular cities and 10 out of GT should be more than enough. Maybe you can swap the last scientist for a great merchant so you can mass-upgrade trebs. I think that would give you the biggest window of opportunity for your cannons. If there is any money left you can run at a deficit. That would probably waste less of the GP than the second bulb.

Allthough a golden age is usually a bit of a waste this early it does not matter that much because you are spiritual and don't have to time them as precise as normal. So yes, if you are unlucky, take advantage of it to double the speed of the next GP while upping your tech speed.

Well, I played up to 790 AD. Things are looking good, as I am currently researching Steel and am doing countless tech trades with only one AI in WFYABTA. :p I also met 2/3 civs on the other continent, although I know who the third one is due to another bug I found....

I just have one question which could help me. Does anyone know what keyboard controls you use to see how much gold you get on a trade mission? I have a Great Merchant that I'd like to use on a trade mission to upgrade about 10-15 trebs to cannons before starting the war (with Ramesses II by the way -- I've decided he'll probably be my next target). It'd be really easy for me to find out how much gold I get rather than testing out each city. This would also help me to see if I should bother making a caravel to send the Great Merchant over on the other landmass.

Lastly, if it wasn't obvious enough, I'm not done with the round yet. :p I'm going to wait until about 1000-1200 AD before posting.

Pretty interesting game so far. Deity is way above my level, so I can't give any hints on how to proceed with the game :p

You can hold down shift while right-clicking on your target city, then hover the mouse over the trade mission icon to see how much it would yield. Be sure to cancel actions before releasing shift though ;) If a city has the Temple of Artemis, that will greatly affect the yield from a trade mission as well.

If there's an easier way of doing it, I would like to know.

Cyrus's capital, Persepolis, has the Temple of Artemis so I guess I'll try and head there (after doing shift+right-clicking) despite that it's not overseas.

I guess that saves me a caravel.

EDIT - I tried this, but it only works for cities in which I have visibility into. :( I won't be able to check the other continent.

Meanwhile, it's 1090 AD, and I'm first to Steel. :goodjob: I'll have to judge how many muskets/w.e./cannons I want in each of the 3 stacks I'm making. Or maybe I'll just go with 2 seeing that Ram has a slightly large SoD of cuirassiers.

Maybe one stack and the onset of the war to crush his main force, then splitting later on? I'm usually careful about splitting my forces until I'm pretty sure I won't encounter any threats later on.

I changd my mind and am going with 2 stacks. Ram has a stack of doom of about 12-15 units (not alarming at all) of horses/some catapults, so I'll want to make sure I get 2 stacks with enough pikes. If I went with 3, Ram's SoD could pulverize one out of my three. You're right, I shouldn't be splitting my forces this early.

I finally took the time to read through this thread, a great read so far, looking forward to the conclusion even if it's a loss (join my club ).

Well, I guess I have no choice but to get at least some of the report up. :crazyeye: Maybe tonight, or tomorrow.

I am already thinking about my next game...I was thinking about these two settings:

1. Augustus Caesar (Ind/Imp) on Deity, on a standard map.

or

2. Augustus Caesar on Immortal, but with random personalities.

Either way, for my next game, I'd like to play as Augustus Caesar because I need to start playing with more IMPERIALISTIC leaders as that is the trait I hate the most because I can't win with it unless I'm Julius Caesar on the earth map and I axe-rush Europe/Russia and praet-rush Persia/Egypt/Arabia. I decided to go with Augustus just because he's first in alphabetical order. I might do Catherine after that (Cre/Imp).

Oh, and normal speed. :p

Here is a sneak preview of what is to come eventually:

Civ4ScreenShot0168-1.jpg

You have won the game, it was in the stars for some time but you certainly played it well, congrats. Apollo 1680 AD is not bad at all:goodjob:.

Did you reach alpha centurai before the year 1800 AD?

I've tried multiple times in BtS but I've always come up just a little bit late. (stupid flight time, mumble grumble...)

That Warrior still hasn't traded his club for a rifle ? :D
Edit :
Saladin and Suleiman/Mehmed/Joao(can't make out that green colour though Lalibela is a city of the Ottomans) are also in the game and he didn't war with Cyrus

Yeah...I pretty much left my capital defended by that warrior the whole game. The tank you see was just "for kicks." That was the only one I could make (in part because there was an empty turn between discovering Rocketry and my capital's last turn build).

The Ottomans aren't in the game as you'll see shortly. Expect an update in about an hour.

And the game was scary for a bit..especially when I got a map and was worried about Shaka taking over the continent (he was advanced as well).

Round 8: 460 AD to 1090 AD (51 Turns) - You Have Discovered Steel! - Part 1

No, the game didn't end in 1090 AD. I'm just doing part of the update right now. :p

Anyway, this round focuses on the post-Liberalism age and the pre-Steel age. Did that make any sense?

Here's what happend....

I began to do a genuine transition from a specialist economy (yes, I am aware of the Crazy Economy vs. Silly Economy thread...) to a cottage economy by bulldozing over farms near a few cities. I tried to leave as many farms intact in my capital because the city's function was in part to generate Great People. I know some of you have advocated cottaging the capital but it is my firm belief that farming the capital was the right move because 1) Gandhi is not financial, he is philosophical and 2) The capital has plenty of production but it would have less with a cottaged capital because of the less food available for working production tiles. Another city I left farmed was Agra since it was to be the Globe Theatre city for drafting muskets.

As I was playing along, I took advantage of this bug I have seen countless times.

Civ4ScreenShot0070-3.jpg

Yes, assass1n, you were correct. :goodjob: Saladin (Spiritual/Protective) is in this game and I know he views Wang as his worst enemy even though I haven't met him. (Strangely enough, he would become PLEASED with Wang later.) I took advantage of this knowledge by not wasting my time building a caravel. I would wait for the other AI's to come to me.

It didn't take long for me to wait. A turn after I did a bunch of trades with Ram/WK/Cy (sorry, no screenshots available), I met ... Shaka (Aggressive/Expansive)! I was worried as soon as I met him because he was really advanced, with Guilds, Engineering, Optics and Gunpowder to boot. Of course, as usual, he was lacking basic techs like Paper and Philosophy.

Civ4ScreenShot0071-3.jpg

But wait! Upon further examination of his diplomacy screen, I figured out who the last AI was, and the cause of that lone Great General born on the other continent.

Civ4ScreenShot0072-3.jpg

Addis Ababa is a city on his list, but that is an Ethiopian name! Therefore, Zara Yaqob (Organized/Creative) is also in the game. Just like that, I know all 3 AI's on the other continent. This was also good news to me because Zara is traditionally a strong and balanced AI. It looks like Shaka certainly took him down a notch.

I used a Great Scientist I obtained last round to lightbulb a portion of Printing Press for me. While that tech isn't quite useful for an empire without cottages, it would be needed eventually and would also help unlock Rifles.

Civ4ScreenShot0073-3.jpg

I used a trick where I could gift Shaka 10 gold pieces and he would become pleased (but only for one turn). I obtained a world map from the Zulu leader.

Civ4ScreenShot0074-3.jpg

Now, as I mentioned before, I was quite worried about the other continent as soon as I saw it because it looked like (at first) that Shaka had took over 3/4ths of it. But, of course, there was Saladin, who has the most land and population.

Civ4ScreenShot0075-3.jpg

Some of you were concerned about my abysmal teching rate. While I agree that I should try and increase my beakers-per-turn rate, I found ways to keep my slider at 100% from trading world maps.

Civ4ScreenShot0076-3.jpg

This is a strategy useful on all high level games. When you're the first on your continent to get a world map from a civilization on the other continent, you can sell your maps for a hefty sum of gold. I think I made over 1,000 gold pieces from selling world maps (I sold maps to every AI). The AI values maps by the amount of land tiles revealed.

With the Great Scientist's help, Printing Press didn't take long to complete.

Civ4ScreenShot0077-3.jpg

Of course, it didn't exactly have a great impact on my economy. I am still floundering at 300 beakers at 100% science. That's still pretty good for most games (at 550 AD), though. Oh, and I was also first to Printing Press.

Civ4ScreenShot0078-3.jpg

Shaka is making my continent-mates seem like backward nations....

After Printing Press was completed, I researched a turn into Engineering in order to make this trade with Cyrus. Researching into technologies makes them cheaper in the eyes of the AI.

Civ4ScreenShot0079-3.jpg

By that point, I had decided that Ramesses II would be my target, for the following reasons:

1. He doesn't build that many units
2. His land is great
3. He has wonders
4. His culture is annoying me
5. WK/Cyrus are enemies so won't go after me if I declare war on Ram
6. Trades can be done with overseas AI who don't have as much WFYABTA counter
7. The alternative is Cyrus, but he builds a lot of units.
