As other people have surely pointed out, there are two senses of feminism. I'm a feminist in the "equality" sense, but not in the "MEN ARE ALL HORRIBLE OPPRESSORS GAAAAAAAAAAA!" sense.

Ditto. In the former sense, to not believe in that, equates you to a passive racist, in my book. In the latter sense... well those women are friggin nuts.

I went out with a girl, she said she liked me, her stomach did flips when she met me, but was conflicted, because I wasn't a feminist. I told her I wouldn't label myself a feminist because its not a huge issue to me, and I also pointed out inequalities towards men, which pretty much enraged her. I asked her is it possible both men and women could feel discrimination. She didn't really answer that question, but said she didn't care about discrimination towards men.

So, she called it off, because I am not a feminist.

so, are you a feminist?
That's exactly why I don't call myself a feminist. ;) Far too many feminists seem concerned with even the slightest possible infringement on women's rights, but don't care at all about anyone else's rights. Quite honestly, I think a peacemeal defense of human rights is a bad way to go, especially when it's often coupled with a thinly veiled (Or quite open) sexism.

I believe in equality before the law for the sexes. (And the races, and different religions, and so on, of course) But I would never call myself a feminist, because so many of my opinion are directly contrary to pretty much all feminism, or at least what's visible in the US today. If your definition of a feminist is someone who believes in equal rights, then I would qualify. But I'm not more concerned with women's rights than men's rights. Which I guess makes me a patriarchal oppressor, or something. :)

Why one that is for equality would call one self a feminist, when one could say that he is for equal rights for genders.

Using the latter, you define exatly what you mean, while using the first one you use broader definition, where you easily are mistaken for a person whom is not for equal rights.

As feminism isn't religion, I do not understand people whom call themselves feminists knowing that there are some really crazy people in feminists saying crazy things.

With religion that would be different thing, it would be stupid if christians would have to stop calling themselves christians because of radical-christians. But with feminism, it is not religion, and there is easy alternative, to define more exactly that you are for equal rights than saying that you are of a group that has extremists and radicals...

I don't get it.

EDIT: Edited bad-language -typo as per Fifty noticing it, thanks.

Why one that is for equality would call one self a feminist, when one could say that he is for equal rights for the genres.

Because equal rights for the genres would suck, because RPGs are for crappy jerks who like japanimation.

That was effing hilarious.

I'm a male, and I freaking hate males. Therefore I am a feminist. Someone chop my nipples off.

While I consider equality of the sexes to be a noble ideal, feminism in my mind evokes a picture of some lady shooting a guy for holding the door open for her. A little more extreme than this:

Me (Holds open door)
Guy: Thanks!
Girl: Are you holding this door open because I'm a girl?
Me: Uhh...
Girl: See, this is exactly why I'm a feminist! Guys think we need help!
Me: Okay, suit yourself....though I was holding the door open to be polite. (Walks in, slams door)
Girl: Let me in, you chauvinist!

The door was at a dorm, so you needed a card to get in. I had mine, and she refused to pull hers out to open the door..

A female professor of gender studies called me a feminist in grad class, so it's official.

You take gender studies....?

I took a class called 'ecofeminism'. The professor was of some reknown in her field, from the gender studies/anthropology dept. She also co-taught a class on food production in semi-arid africa with a gentleman from harvard.

If you must know.

Neo's hippy-chick would have been putty in my hands :deal:

(Until she found out about wanting to bomb/invade Iran, maintain occupation, etc)

Any chance she was a militant imperialist feminist? Who am I kidding, she was probably an equatist.

Well Ecofarm i kept this from you due to uncertainty of how you would take it but since now you opened this subject , i also believe you to be a feminist .

Historical feminism was about rights and equality. Current feminism is about idiocy.

I am a feminist, I tap my feet to the spice girls, who invented it.

I work at a University.. On my way to work, if I take a certain shortcut, I walk through the "Department of Feminist Research" "What the hell are they researching in there?", I ask myself when I walk past that place.

I just can't help it but imagine the following scene play itself out in my head:

Setting: Packed auditorium, a covered something-or-other is sitting up on stage, along with a couple "feiminist researchers"

Feminist researchers: "We give you... "

*veil comes down*

"THE WOMAN WITH TWO VAGINAS"

But seriously.. Feminist research? WTH

There are a million ways to study things via catagorization: economics, ecologically, and anthropologically for examples. We find macro and micro, habitat and ecosystem, male and female.

Feminist/gender studies is a branch of anthropology that focuses on gender (one's unofficial classification in society) to compare and analyze past and current social structures.

It is important to my study because a subsistance farm is the product of capital (economic inputs), labor (often divided by gender) and ecologic resources. I needed to qualify and quantify the input of labor according to some catagorization and gender serves that purpose well. Through modelling, we can see the impact on a farm for the loss of a female, male or child in terms of labor specific to individual tasks and then predict reprocussions.

It also provides insight into authoritarianism and patriarchy as foundations for early science and society.

Ultimately, it is barely more than another dichotomy with with to simplify anthropologic study.

Is it one of those 80% female classess ? " In today's lecture we present you ways to control the classic example of a male chauvist pig which lies to himself in ways to convince himself that he is noble , protective , his actions are not moved by racist tendencies. Studies have shown this to be not truth. Subconsciously men are lead to all decesions by a genetic profile bread from Men discrimination over women for all the history of the world. They are genetically predisposed to take advantage of us and control us whatever they may say. The only answer to this , is to cut their balls. Indeed testosterone is a reason why men behave as they do. And remember , our fight for equality can never be stopped.

Well if i have written the above means i have thought it. And i certainly hope i don't actually dream it. I prefer my subconscious which often is expressed by dreams to be the usual style. Which means i would be spending time with my hundred slaves wifes , serving all my needs ....

The thing we are trying to ask you is that , has any of this "Feminist" propaganda , influenced you ?

By your answer i will attempt to read the signs , although already i am seeing things i don't like.

no to "women should rule", yes to "women should not be denied oppurtunities to rule if they prove themselves capable [just like men]"
