I have a few (one in my room, one in hallway, one in living room) and alot of people I know have one. It's true most people I know are kinda high on the hippie spectrum. They're a nice background light at night.

They advertise as emitting negative ions which sounds a bit woo but I haven't bothered to check out whether it's true or not.

Edit : I meant to make poll public cuz people seem to like that

Is this one of those anti-space-lizard crystal lamps? :)

If so, I have always wanted one.

I looked up the supposed benefits of rock salt lamps. One site claimed that the "negative ions" worked to "reduce electromagnetic radiation"....except that electromagnetic radiation is light. That would not be a very effective lamp.

I did have one I received as a gift but I don't know where it is now. It was kinda cool but the light was too dim and I don't like things that takes up much needed table space. Cat people, I'm told, should be a little wary with salt lamps as cats lick them and get a salt overdose or something.

As for as ions goes I prefer the positive ones. Not sure why they just seem a little more optimistic to me for some reason.

I can reverse your polarity. /winks

what

My mother-in-law has a couple.

They're damn-near useless for any task requiring actual illumination, but they do make attractive (if expensive) night-lights.

My sister offered me one years ago and I declined. The purported health benefits sound hokey, but they do give off a mellow glow if nothing else.

Ionizers are a known, though least efficient, way to remove particulates from the air (a good HEPA filter is orders of magnitude better). How a salt lamp ionizes is not clear to me in the first place, and it seems unlikely that they are among the more efficient ionizers if they are ionizers at all...so worst of a bad lot?

Ditch the salt lamp and get a good UV light instead and let the light itself ionise your body. Mmmh, such a healthy glow. :)

No, I don’t have one.
