I have one. It makes for awesome ambient lighting in the night. It looks good sitting there. It has a dimmer on it. I love it. Definitely the kind of light you want in a bedroom.
Never heard of those things. I have a rock of salt from Berchtesgaden which looks very similar and where you can place a candle. It's mainly for decoration, and not for any health benefits.
A candle inside sounds nice. I see two of you mentioning that now and I’m tempted. My lamp is pretty thick tho but I’ll try it when I return to California.
my parents have one and I like it. but I have a pretty strong no-bullfeathers philosophy when it comes to decorating my house, so all I use for lamps is energy-saving bulbs and literal graveyard candles.
We thought we'd try one for the particulate thing. I remember dusting around it and thinking it wasn't doing a very stellar job but the light was pretty. Then my oldest knocked it off the table once and killed the light part. Pitched it after that.

For the record...the idea of ionization is that it creates ions in the air, which encounter particulates and in turn transfer the charge to them, which makes them clump together and settle out of the air. So when you encountered dust around the salt lamp that could be interpreted as indicating that it works.
