DocT2 - Ghandi goes Sid

I will chip in my 2 bits. One of the best/first things we should do is establish an embassy with the Aztecs. That way we can get a double war going if we need to. i.e. we declare on Persia/Japan and ally the aztecs for S&G.
2nd, I agree that we should build vet chariots/horsies. remember that we don't need iron until rails. That is one reason why we chose India.
3rd, I like temples. Just something about me I guess.
4th, I would settle the blue dot ASAP, then the red tundra dot, then go for one north of the gold hill. Any settlers that head further north let us know where some resources are, and/or we can hustle and get some fishing villages/worker farms up there.
5th, by all means we can go for TGL. We have 2 very warlike civs near us and Persia is not usually peaceful, so chances are this could get highly entertaining, we just need to keep our noses clean and work like mad for it.

Point is, the AI has Galleys. I really want the second horse spot, and I want the "Gold Spot". The other red dot simply prevents the AI from settling anywhere on that pennisula, that's why we need to get there before the AI, and before the blue dots (which will be better cities).

On Iron Working: I completely agree Swords are better for attacking than Horseman. However, we have an absolutely undefensible position iwthout fast units - a wide open underbelly, not a choke. I don't want units to attack the Aztecs soon, I want units able to defend us - and Horse/Spears/Cats are much better suited for that task, especially against Jags.

Considering the options open to us now:

1) Spears/Horses/Cats in suffcient numbers are more than a match for what I would expect to see, even up to regular swords. Vet swords are a different matter but even then two spears, a cat and a horse are a good match for a single vet sword. Bombard, skirmish and heal would be the battle orders.

2) Madras is a strong city and well suited to the GL build.

3) Doc's city placement is a lot looser in the inital stages than I care for, but I understand its advantages.

4) I want to keep pushing on exploring and finding contacts. At this stage of the game the more nations you know the better off you are.

5) Using cash to open embassies and establishing trading relationships is crucial. If they need you around they will keep you around.

6) All that said here's the plan:

  • Buy something from Monte as soon as we meet the next nation
  • Settle the red dots as indicated on Doc's map
  • Push the curraghs and try to broker for Map Making if I can (depends on Japan)
  • Preserve the forests
  • Get workers to Madras
  • Try to set up a Settler/Unit/Worker farm at Delhi and Worker/Unit at Bombay

And here's how it worked out:

0-1750BC
Our warrior in the south gets booted out of Persia...right into the face of the Japanese, who do not know Map Making...so, let's see if we can buy Map Making from the neighbors and we cannot from the Aztecs(?) or the Persians but we should be able to get Masonry for ~250g from somebody. And the best I can do is 205 in cash and 3gpt from Monte (265).

Madras switches to Temple and forest chops are canceled in favor of roads.

In 1675 the Aztecs learn Philosophy and sell it to the Persians. Monte now holds a monopoly on Mathematics as well.

Open an embassy with Monte:

DocT2_1675Aztecs.jpg

Notable is the 70% science rate and that he is building horsemen.

Also in 1675 found Calcutta on the river tundra spot.

Persians start the MoM.

Americans complete the Colussus.

In 1650 settler moving to hill on second red dot reveals wandering Aztec warrior. Warrior dispatched from Delhi to Bangalore re-vectored to join settler.

Japanese have bought Map Making from Persia and start the Great Lighthouse.

Persians start the Great Lighthouse as well and the MoM.

Aztecs and Persia now know Code of Laws

In 1625 found Lahore on the hill above the tundra, preserving the forest to the north.

In 1600 Aztec galley shows up on west coast.

In 1575 spot a coastline to the west.

Aztecs and Japan are at war. Buy Warrior Code from Monte for 65g+8gpt, not the best deal but it will keep him out of our face, and we can't research Literature much faster than minimum anyway.

In 1550 Aztec settler teams(2) show up heading north.

In 1525 settler and warrior head north from Delhi and curragh starts suicide run across three tile strait. Warrior from Bombay heads out to waltz with Aztec settler team.

In 1500 curragh survives suicide run to coastline in west.

Warrior parks on forest in east and settler and warrior are heading to the head of the river in the tundra. Bombay finishes its barracks and starts on a spearman. Luxury tax is raised to 10% to keep Bombay cistizens working. Bangalore has grown and needs only eighteen shields to finish its temple, so can be whipped to completion. It has our only scientist right now and still lacks MP as warrior was diverted to Lahore.

I have been running a settler/warrior/worker cycle in Delhi and keeping two workers improving terrain at Bombay and two workers at Madras.

I have just found out that I am part of the traveling coaching staff for our football team. I will be gone Friday, Saturday and portions of Sunday. Thanks for your patience and sorry for any inconvience.
Go Hardrockers. (Team is South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Hardrockers).
Might need a skip here, or at least a swap.
I hadn't seen Bede post his turns, and I have RL stuff I need to do tonight. Sorry.

Ooops, soory. Forgot my own SG :wallbash: - that is, I already played a couple of days ago, but missed to post it.

India, 1500BC

Inherited:
Whip Temple in Bangalore. Focus more on production in some cities.
IBT:
Japan boots our Warrior
Delhi Warrior-> Settler
Bangalore Temple-> Warrior

Turn 1: 1475BC
Zzz…
IBT:
Monty offers RoP and MA against Japan, decline.

Turn 2: 1450BC
Start suiciding a Curragh, and find American borders pretty near E of our continent.
IBT:
Osaka completes Lighthouse, Sidon MoM.
Curragh sinks :sad:

Turn 3: 1425BC
Zzzz..
IBT:
Aztecs settle in the NW tundra.
Bombay Spear-> Chariot
Aztecs start the Great Wall

Turn 4: 1400BC
Found Karachi on the Tundra River, Curragh.
IBT:
Japan boots us again.

Turn 5: 1375BC
Zzz..
IBT:
Delhi Settler-> Warrior

Turn 6: 1350BC
Zzzz…
Scientist goes to Calcutta.
IBT:
Madras Temple-> Palace (IMHO we could even move the Palace there, when we get beaten)

Turn 7: 1325BC
Zzzz…
IBT:
Delhi Warrior-> Settler
Bombay Chariot-> Temple
All known Civs start ToA

Turn 8: 1300BC
Disband our exploring Warrior, since the Japanese borders claimed the tiles he stood, and I don’t want to get our Curragh thrown out again.

Turn 9: 1275BC
Zzz…

Turn 10: 1250BC
Move Workers to Madras, if we want any chance for the Glib we need to focus only on that city now. Settler/Warrior is on spot for the last good city; I know it’s a BG, but it will pull in more tiles than the non-BG NE.
Next spots are marked.
We simply must make suicide runs until we meet America, we cannot afford anything right now.
There’s a Curragh unmoved, if someone feels like suiciding this one as well; don’t see any other use for it.
The Aztecs Spears are reinforcing their Northern city, Japanese ships are close.

Looks pretty dull…:sad:

I should get to this on Friday. (It is our homecoming or M-day, so it might be Saturday)
BTW Doc, what is the ruling on the Bulgars game?

Got it playing now.

IHT: Bought Aztec worker for 110 gold and 1 gpt.
IBT:
Turn 1: Bangalore, warrior to worker. Found Khulapar. start Curragh.
IBT: America finishes the HG.
Turn 2: Dehli Settler to Temple. Karachi curragh to curragh. Moving curraghs
IBT: Mongols build SoZ.
Turn 3: Bombay Temple to worker. Lost northern Suicide curragh.
IBT: Xerxes extors 20 gold. Persians start sun Tzu's.
Turn 4: found Jaipur, starts on worker.
IBT: Japan and Aztecs sign peace. Mongols build ToA. Americans build the great Wall
Turn 5: Lahore Rax to worker, Bombay worker to settler. Fishing villages north of Karachi. Lost another curragh.
IBT:
Turn 6: knock a few turns off of the palace.
Turn 7: Dehli Temple to settler.
Turn 8: Not much, a little MM.
Turn 9: Calcutta Temple to curragh. Persians start Leo's. Open an embassy in Persia.
Turn 10: Dehli Settler to Rax, Lahore, worker to Curragh. Karachi curragh to Curragh. Persians finish sun Tzu's (SGL?)

Kinda uneventful turns, but if we don't get TGL, I think we are screwed.

Kinda uneventful turns, but if we don't get TGL, I think we are screwed.

:crazyeye:

Pre-turn - Find a tile to work and we got 2 extra gpt. That's all.

975bc - Bombay settler -> curragh. New settler N to build another fishing village.
Bangalore worker -> curragh.

Madras have 5 uncorrupted shields out of 8, pretty useless.

950bc - Madras grows to 6 pop, 6 of 10 shields uncorrupted.

925bc - Nothing.

900bc - Japan boots our curragh to the other side of an icy peninsula, saving us quite a few moves.

Jaipur worker -> barracks.

875bc - Delhi barracks -> settler.
Bombay curragh -> chariot.
Kolhapur curragh -> temple.

Hyderabad founded -> worker.

850bc - Nothing.

825bc - Bengal founded -> worker.
Karachi curragh -> curragh.

Curragh sinks.

800bc - Japan starts Leo's and....the Great Library :cry:

FP-message.

Delhi settler -> chariot.
Suicide curragh spots yellow borders.

775bc - And the curragh sinks, of course.

750bc - Bombay chariot -> chariot.

We are beaten again :banana:

We are beaten again

Why? Because Japan starts TGL?

I see this, but I can't get to it before Sat, and Sun may be more likely.

Couldn't check the save, but I don't think the game is lost before we're dead. If Japan builds TGL, you know what we have to do :evil:.
And more important, as long as we have 3 balanced Civs on our continent, we have a chance to survive until Jumbos.

May I suggest 2 things:
1) Don't build the FP now. Instead, move the Palace to Madras, which is clearly the better city. Best location for the FP considering the landmass is somewhere near Tenochtitlan...
2) Skip Republic. We cannot afford 50 turns for Republic, and another 50 turns for Feudalism. Instead, go straight to Feud, and use that Gov - we have only two bigger cities anyway, and can squeeze in lots of Tundra towns to help with support. Then, :hammer: Monty, or die.

I never do palace-jumps, I consider that an exploit, except by leaders (rather the worst exploit in the game)

But if that is what the team decides, I'll bite.

OOPS! :blush:

I knew there was another game I was up in, forgot which one it was. I'll get this played tonight for sure. (not that we've been keeping a blistering pace anyhow, but still)

We could try to get a dogpile on the Japanese and see if that helps us out. We might get TGL due to the fact that the japs won't trade it, and they might shift their build. It is a thought.

You know, when I first started playing SG's, we barely finished my first game. The dropouts we had really left a bad taste in my mouth. As such, I have made it pretty clear that I abhor skips/dropouts, and pride myself on never being skipped (other than vacations) in my time on these boards (although I have certainly delayed a time or three). Curious how sometimes one must become that which he loathes, huh?

When I came home from work tonight, I was informed that the relationship I have been in for the past four years was crumbling. Unfortunately, the time I spend on Civ/SG's is one of the reasons.

As such, my time for civ will be severely limited in the coming weeks while I tend to more important things. While it is possible I could perhaps keep my obligation in one or two games, it doesn't feel right to pick and choose which one(s).

Therefore, it is with great remorse and my most sincere apologies that I must request to be put on auto skip in all games, effective immediately. Hopefully I will still be able to lurk a bit, and maybe even contribute here and there (especially from work).

If things get smoothed out quickly, then I will request to be added back in to rosters, at the hosts' discretion. I am not terribly optimistic though.

Once again, apologies to all. :(

Hey Sesn, some things are way more important than Civ. Relationships are one of them.
You have my support and sincere wishes for the best. (unless the Twins play the BoSox in the Playoffs, but I was gonna wait on that)
Do what you need. You gave me a skip so I could propose to my woman, and that shows true class.
