DocT2 - Ghandi goes Sid

Got it.

personally, I'd like to see the W dot moved 1 E on to the hill. Then we can put another coastal city NW of the of the tabakky. We'll also be able to put a city in the marsh there somewhere. I like the gold hill, but I think it'll be too close to Sardis.

So general consensus is lit on min, unless we can get a reasonable time on philo AND it is not known yet?

Confess I haven't thought much past writing. Have we got a town that can acculmulate shields for the GL? If so I think Literature is the way to go. There are still a lot of unknowns out there to dothe Philo thing. I'd be more confident of success if we knew a few more people and had a feel for their tech direction.

On city siting, you guys are a whole lot better at it than I, so have at it.

IHT – Well, to be honest, I don’t like the looks of this. We only have three small cities, and we won’t be able to be choosy about spots very soon. We’ll be settling big flip risks before it’s all said and done.

That said, I see four or five spots I like, but with the English running around, I expect them to ruin two spots in one fell swoop.

Anyhow….

Since we only need one food in the bin, I swap tiles to grab a couple extra shields.

IT – Surprise surprise. Newcastle is founded. I underestimated the English, they screwed up three spots I was looking at.

2110 bc (1) – Madras curragh -> curragh. England starts ToA.

2070 bc (2) – Nada

2030 bc (3) – Dutch start ToA. Persians build Hamadan in the north.

1990 bc (4) – English build Oxford on the coastal river tile to the east. Both Dutch and English have Writing, two fer is possible with Persians, but we can’t buy Writing! Still doubtful.

1950 bc (5) – Delhi settler -> settler [party] Now, where to put it?

1910 bc (6) – Madras curragh -> curragh. Still no dice on writing. With only four turns left on it, I’m not even checking anymore.

1870 bc (7) – Liverpool founded, one more spot gone (though that was a last resort)

1830 bc (8) – Bangalore founded. I’m getting really annoyed with the amount of open space Bubba is finding up north.

1790 bc (9) – Bombay temple -> warrior. GAH!!! With one turn left on our research, the Persians get Writing!!

1750 bc (10) – Writing comes in, start on lit. Delhi settler -> settler.

Recap: Things are looking pretty grim here guys. The settler is headed for the grass NW of the tobacco. No one has philo, but the best we can do is 23 turns. There is a TON of open land to the north, but the stupid Persians decided to expand towards us rather than away. They’re going to be a behemoth very soon. Now that the land around us is essentially gone, they can expand north basically unimpeded.

>>>SAVE<<<

Red is current settler destination, Blue should be next.

Note all of the open land in the north.

How are we getting out of this? Blue and red dots seem doable, but after that we are perfectly squared in. Anything we build close to the S english borders will be doomed as Doc said, anything we build further away will have even less chance to not flip.

The 4 pops we lost was essentially 2 settlers. I have no clue how how to gain anything here, except for the very slight chance of building ICS. On an easier level I could squeeze in another 9-10 towns after the dots, but most of them would probably flip anyways here.

I'm not sure either. We're probably vastly underpowered by now. Generally I would want to war with england, since it's a fairly short front to defend, but what are we going to do, chop them with our stone axes? Warriors won't stand much chance against archers, spears, and swords.

Looks like we have a 6CC going here. Want to try for a diplomatic victory? :)

I never say no to a challenge, but I bet the AI will build UN before we even build a university

Anybody got any cinnamon for the toast?

We are going to be hampered by those floodplains forever.

How about we each roll a start, play thirty and post the results for a discussion on Sunday?

I'm game too.

Are we allowed rerolls?

Whatever you are comfortable with I think, as we are rerolling the whole game.

I generated a winner I think. No barbs, Random everything else, standard map. I uploaded because my opening sequence is always craptastic. This can/should save some time on someone else rolling a bunch.

Here's the first thirty.

A corner with Egyptians and Germans for neighbors. Egypt in the south beyond the mountains. Germany to the SE in the plains.

Thebes is a very productive town with lots of food and shields and Memphis also has potential. Will need to water a grassland briefly to get water across to the plains at Memphis.

Got Bronze Working and 15g from the Germans for Alphabet. Hoped to get Pottery as trade bait with Bismarck but missed.

Raging Barbarians  looking for even more challenge?

Lack the time to upload them, but I played into romeo's start, and the older start #4.
Romeo's start is ugly, we're sandwiched between monster Spain (Ivory, Colossus already), and little less monster Arabs. Only 2 Civs are neither COM nor SEA, so Alpha wasn't worth anything. All luxes were grabbed by Spain already.

But #4 is pretty nice, I think we do have a chance here.

Set everything random except India and didn't see the barb setting until I ran it through Seedbeast.

I be more concerned about the Germans to our east and south....

Older #4 is okay too.
