Does your country have a backyard?

Not really for Norway, and for a long time, we were the back yard for the rest of Scandinavia and Britain both. Now though we have thrown off our yardness, though we have yet to find a suitable place for our own.

I suppose Svalbard, Jan Mayen and the Arctic Ocean is our backyard. Though it's becoming a rather lively backyard these days; the Danes haven't really left, the Russians, Americans and Canadians are moving in, and all of them are claiming at least some of the backyard as their own...

Or perhaps we should entertain the idea that northern Norway is our backyard... (Før Dovre Faller (in Norwegian))

Petrobras (the state-owned Brazilian oil company) has been criticized in Bolivia for advancing Brazilian imperialism and Brazil is getting a lot of Bolivian, Peruvian, and Haitian illegal immigrants, especially in Acre state. Uruguay especially is largely influenced by Brazilian and Argentinian political and economic policies.

Brazil's real backyard is only Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia. And Argentina, if they continue to elect Kirchners.

Chile, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador all don't depend at all on Brazil for anything. And Venezuela is the ideological boss of Brazil. Lula and Dilma were and are bossed around by Chavez and Maduro, not the reverse.

And in turn, Chavez and Maduro were and are bossed by Fidel and Raul Castro.

What a world we live in.

Is there any significant immigration from the latter two?

There was some in the 70's when Suriname went independent. According to wikipedia 2% of the population is from Suriname and about 0.7% Is Antillean.

The rest of Oceania (excluding NZ); not that most of us are aware most of the time that they even exist, mind you.

We can freely go to NZ without a visa, so that is clearly our backyard and don't forget Bali, since there are many Aussie tourists.

Oceania's pretty much in Australia's pocket, particularly with legal matters.
Such as declaring war with Eastasia.
And in turn, Chavez and Maduro were and are bossed by Fidel and Raul Castro.
We only have to wait until the two Castros die, then.
Nope. The backyard is something homeowners tend to surround with high fences or hedges to keep trespassers out. Therefore, your backyard is Mexico.
The fence is on the side farther from your house, not the one on your own wall.

What are their backyards?

I just remembered that EU sculpture that portrayed Bulgaria as a Turkish squat toilet. Still no idea on what Austria's backyard could possibly be.

The fence is on the side farther from your house, not the one on your own wall.

So the US is an estate, with Texas, California, New Mexico and Arizona as its backyard, with the Eastern Seaboard being the mansion?

Yes, California is really the shed in the backyard where people get together to get high.

Right, right. Our front yard is Canada, our backyard is Mexico, the vacation home is Europe, and the playground is the Middle East.

Our front yard is the Atlantic, our sideyards are Canada and Latin America, our Backyard is the Pacific. Simple.

Well, no, His Holiness the Pope has already established that Argentina is the arse-end of the world. So LatAm in general is the back(side)yard of the USA known world.
