We do need a chat where you can literally say anything you want.
Open a word doc and type away. If what you have to say is important, the lack of an audience won't matter. ;)

Nah do a google doc, then other people can see what you have to say as well. :p

I would rather not sit in chat while you /pol/ for hours on end, I agree that certain mods should relax a bit though.

Free speech just isn't in high demand for IOT chat, as every chat free from censorship fails.

/pol/ is deleted. Ponies are deleted. I've seen posts deleted because the mod didn't like the other's argument. I once made a pro-Sonic comment that was deleted.

I've tried to impose a "no non-IOT discussion" rule on myself for that reason, as I want to limit how much time I spend in the chat. I simply do not like the custom of trolling by chat admins that's developed; what was once a joke is now a habit that I find incredibly annoying.

Heck, whenever one of my posts is deleted, I now announce my exit. I don't have to put up with it. :p It'll make my retirement, whenever that comes, much easier.

Mech and Red delete ponies because lol. I post them for the same reason. I fail to see a problem.

I honestly think this is another case of IOT blowing things out of proportion. It's not that big a deal.

When I hear "moderator," I think someone who exhibits professionalism and only really exercises power where it's clear things are problematic.

Deleting because "lol" does not count as this in my book. It may seem like harmless fun and games, but it rapidly becomes an annoyance, and, I feel, degrading to the stature of authority.

But I digress. The less time I spend at IOT chat the better, since it means I have more time to focus on other things. :p

I actually tried a free speech chat, I closed it in less than ten minutes because Mosher started spamming Soft Porn everywhere. I've learned that moderation is a necessary evil, although I think the ones we have at the moment aren't that great TBH. I meant chat mods please don't ban me bird.

This is IOT. Everything is that big a deal.

I spammed adult material to prove a point. You were getting annoying with how seriously you were taking a joke, and then when you made a "free speech" chatroom, I naturally tested the limits of that freedom.

I'll shuffle the mod list.

Not really a common practice anymore, really.

Though, lets try having no mods for a while. That ought to spice things up.

This is a terrible idea and you know it.

I'm curious why all this chat discussion isn't taking place in IOT chat.

Yeah, I'm sorry I wasn't really thinking very well when I made the chatroom. I actually made one earlier, but I deleted it very quickly as I thought it was a bad idea. Turns out I was right.

I still think you are wrong, but this is too stupid to get into fights about. Anyway, I'll shut up about it now.

Mainly because getting Europeans, Aussies, and 'Muricans in the chat at the same time to discuss things this civilly just doesn't work :p
And the chat moves way to fast for anything like a sustained discussion.

I guess if you think this is inappropriate for straight up posting in the forum we should move it into a group?

You guys don't want free speech in IOT.
Admit it.
But hey, who does? You go to a random chatroom and express you opinions on 10 different subjects, you will be labelled as an ignorant, a bigot, a racist, a conspiracy theorist, an evil person and an idiot before you get to your fifth phrase.

Free speech is relative. Nobody stops us from having opinions, but many block us from expressing said opinions.
You like bronies? Ok, nobody gives a flea about it. But if you say it in chat, you'll probably get banned for a few minutes, "because lol".

What I've learned from IOT so far: KEEP YOUR OPINIONS FOR YOURSELF. INCLUDING THE ONES ABOUT HAVING AN OPINION. INCLUDING THE ONES ABOUT FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN CHAT. Capiche?
