Reginald Fitzgibbon was born to loyalist parents in Belleville, Ontario in 1965. His father and uncles enlisted separately during the Second World War against their Great War veteran father's wishes. His eldest uncle, James, died on the beaches of Dieppe. His youngest uncle, Larry, became an engineer who participated in the liberation of Holland and France. His Father had the most distinguished record. Jack Fitzgibbon fought in Italy where he won several medals before being wounded at Ortona. He returned to the war and remained in the military until he received a crippling wound at Kapyong during he Korean War.
Reg grew surrounded by stories of war, remembered fondly by his father and uncle. But his grandfather's tales of horror from the battlefields of Ypres and Passchendaele convinced him to stay out of the military until later in life than his father.
He made it through high school on the honour roll and managed to secure a spot at Queen's University in Fall of 1983. He studied history and political science for three years. Reggie hated the school for it's arrogance and several professor's commitment to learning. Rather than finish his honour's year, Reg graduated after three years. He was rejected by several urban planning faculties and sank into depression. He returned home in 1987 where his father convinced him to join the Canadian Forces.
Reg was accepted into the Princess Patricia's Light Infantry and saw his first action in Yugoslavia in 1993. Reg distinguished himself during the Medak pocket. His excellent service resulted in his being recommended to JTF-2 in 1995.
He served with the elite unit for several years in Iraq, Afghanistan, Haiti, and other, less public, operations. Over the course of his career he became disillusioned with the military. It was neither the glorious life his father had told him nor was it the terrible experience of his grandfather. It was something in between, with no clear right or wrong. Reg, a straightforward, uncomplicated man couldn't take the uncertainty and greyness. He left the forces in late 2004 to pursue a contract with Blackwater Worldwide.
He had entered the forces as a hopeful, black or white thinking, right-wing idealist. He emerged a confused, conflicted, self-interested and sometimes bitter man.
He fought in Iraq for Blackwater until December 2007. He attempted to settle down in his hometown. Life was difficult. Work was scarce in Belleville even for someone with applicable skills. The looming recession, a several short-lived, rocky relationships, a falling out with his father, and an unhappy stint in loss-prevention convinced Reg to join DOOM in November 2008. The goal: to add enough cash to his substantial savings to allow him to buy a house in a new town, get a new degree, and begin a new life.
Reg is easily one of the most experienced mercs in the squad. His skill with his weaponry is nearly unparalleled in the squad. His weapons alone (listed as 'lost' after his final contract) make him a valuable addition to the squad. He is a versatile soldier, though he is slowing down and knows it. He is content to let others do the leading for now until he gains rapport with his new comrades.
To Reg, this is the 'one big score' he dreams about. If all the objectives are completed, he will have just enough cash to settle down. Of course, he is no idiot. If his survival means an extra year or two of work, he is willing to sacrifice. After all, money is of little use to the deceased.
His low willpower score doesn't represent a lack of mental fortitude, merely an unwillingness to die for a cause he doesn't believe in or men he doesn't know.
