Dr.NES - The D.O.O.M. Project

OOC: I already said that I would help. However, my wishes are superseded by the orders of the squad leader, but I hope that, since it's obvious Eduardo's son must have been kidnapped by someone related to all this situation, he will allos us to search for the young boy.

OOC: Our assignment is only to find out what is going on around here and not to find your boy. But we will watch for him while we do our mission. I believe this was already said. I could be wrong.

"Indeed, Jaguar, the man makes the gunman, but he also chooses the gun, and it's a simple fact that rabble like these choose Kalashnikovs. I'm sure the right man can be as deadly with it as I am with my trusty FC-16, but it's never really been my taste."

As an afterthought, he glances at Eduardo.

"Oh, Jaguar, tell Eduardo that if we see his son, we'll do our best to save him, but we can't just wander around the jungle looking for him. Personally, I think it'd be best to extract Eduardo out of the jungle, and we'll bring any kids we find to him after the fact. I don't like weighing the squad down with any more wounded and civilians than necessary."

"Radioing the heli now Sarge."

Magus sets up his high-powered radio

"This is Magus calling river-captain Valentine. Please respond."
"This is Valentine. What's the situation?"
"We need an immediate med-evac from the open field east of village C. Louis de Bourbon was killed in action a few hours ago. We had a major contact with Portuguese irregulars. We are also evacuating Miguel. Please tell the heli crew to be on their guard we have no idea of the enemy's strength or equipment. They may come under fire. Do you copy Valentine?"
"I got all that. The chopper is on its way. Anything else?"
"Hang on a sec."

Magus stops transmitting.

"Got anything else we want to say? Ruben are we evacuating the civilian?"

"I don't intend to force him to leave if he doesn't want to, and I don't expect that he wants to. If he's willing to cooperate, though, I'd prefer to get Eduardo out of here and let us bring his kid back if we find him."

"Alright, I've got that Sarge. I'll take the right flank."

Nestor moved into position as the group re-ordered itself. Quietly, he considered mentioning that he spoke Portuguese fairly fluently as well. Ultimately, he decided it would be ideal to not make a distraction at a time when the short-tempered man was firing off orders left and right.

Spoiler Portuguese :
"Eduardo. I need to talk to you about your son."

Vicente, hearing Sarge's suggestion, walked over to Quim. He spoke to him in the only language they could both understand

Spoiler Portuguese :
People think it is in the best interest of the group that you stay with the main group. I am not necessarily for this, and would much rather you be with myself in the rear...but it is your decision.

He then walked to Eduardo, who was kneeling in prayer. He knelt beside him, pulling out his own rosary beads and joined him in prayer, making his Hail Marys in his native tongue. Once they were both done, Vicente clapped a hand on Eduardo's shoulder, and spoke to him softly.

Spoiler Portuguese :
I am unable to feel the pain you are in right now, having lost a family. I have never had children of my own, and once I joined the military, I basically cut ties with my parents. The only things I have lost are close friends in the line of duty, and I have been able to deal with their passings with relative ease due to combat.

I really wish we could search for your son, and I am sure I am not the only one who would think that to be a correct thing to do. However, you must remember that we are not aid workers, we are mercenaries...people hired to do work which almost always involves the killing of others. When we are hired, coin influences us, not morals. We will not be able to look for your son directly, but, should we find him, we will take care of the situation appropriately.

Now, with that said, I hope you stay with us. Not only will your knowledge of this territory and the militants assist us in our work, but it will also help save people here, and bring an end to the useless bloodshed and slaughter. Also, regarding the weapon I gave you, that will give not only you, but the group as a whole, an advantage in the coming days. That shotgun would do nothing but make noise and hit things close up...you would have a better chance at fighting militants with a stick and a hand-full of rocks rather than that piece of junk. With the Kalashnikov, at least you could hit things from a distance, and when you get better with it, you might even become an asset in combat, which would be great.

Eduardo listened to the man whispering to him. His heart dropped, but he knew they wouldn't go out of their way to help him find his son. These people's lives were run by greed. Eduardo may have been a simple man, but he wasn't stupid. These people offered him the chance to travel with them, and he would take them up on that offer. Even if they weren't looking for his son, there was a chance they would find him... no matter how slim it would be. However, there was also a better chance of his own survival, if he traveled with these people. Eduardo nodded, understanding.
Spoiler Portuguese :

"Yes, I knew you people wouldn't go out of your way to help me find my son, but I will join you nonetheless. There's a chance we may run into him... and you are nice enough people to let me travel with you, I believe I may be of some assistance. Perhaps less of you will die now that I am here to give you information. I am sorry for the death of your friend here, but you must understand, my traveling with you still does not make finding my son my number one priority. I will do what you ask to the best of my abilities, but I am also only out here to find my son. I am sorry if that seems selfish to you, but I need to know what has happened to him.

He nodded to Jaguar, and stood up, hearing the white man who talked to him first call him over.

Do we have an estimate?

Update 7
The Chinook

18 August 2013
The Amazonian Jungle
1300-1500 Hours

“Yuro, this is Magnus, over.” Magnus huddled along the path, leaning down towards the high-powered radio along the ground.

“Yuro here,” Emmanuel replied.

“We need the Chinook to report to….10.57, 57.6. We need to evac some wounded personnel and some civilians.”

“Wounded personnel?” Emmanuel asked, finding the statement disconcerning.

“Miguell was attacked by a jaguar during the early part of the mission; he’s in stable condition, but we feel that it is important to get him out of here. We also need some more equipment - we were locked in a little skirmish earlier today and we need to restock on ammunition.”

Emmanuel nodded. Must have been a local drug lord instigating the whole scenario. “Are you sure you need the Chinook this early? I’ll rely on your judgment….”

Magnus turned to O’Neill, who nodded. “Yes.”

“Roger. ETA 2 hours. Over and out.”

Magnus turned to the rest of the squad. “Its good to go.”

Rachel murmured, “You didn’t tell him about Louis.”

Magnus curtly answered, “He doesn’t need to know yet.”

As they prepared to journey to the field for evac, Marcus and Dr. Garcia remained by the village hut to examine the dead body he had found there before the firefight had begun.

“Can you perform an autopsy, doc?” Marcus asked.

“No need,” Dr. Garcia replied. “Look at this guy - Jesús dulce - his entire left leg has been severed off! These wounds…look here…they are not bullet wounds. They appear to be a wild animal attack; there are bite marks here, along the neck, and along the arms…the chest shows scratch marks…this isn’t normal…”

Marcus checked the AK-47 lying nearby. “It’s fully loaded,” he muttered. “Whatever got him must have surprised him.”

O’Neill flipped open the tent flap. “We’re preparing to leave now. What have you found, doctor?”

Dr. Garcia repeated what he learned.

O’Neill shook his head. “Looks like Miguell wasn’t the only guy attacked by a jaguar. We’ll keep an eye out just in case. Now we have to worry about getting to the open field for the evac.”

And so they left the body in its miserably state of rotting while the squad began the trek towards the open field.

Little did they know that their every step was being watched by an unseen enemy.

Midway through the march, a loud noise, echoing across the treetops, caught the squad unaware. It was a low rumble; as Nigel turned upward, towards the sky, he noticed a large cargo plane flying through the clouds above.

“Odd,” Nestor remarked. “This isn’t a flying zone…”

Nevertheless, the squad was not going to allow a single plane to upset their intentions of reaching the field, and in the utmost speed they continued to reach the rendezvous with the Chinook.

The open field was huge, spanning a gigantic distance as far as the eyes can see. Legend says that an ancient spirit of war had the field burned when his troops were routed at the battle of creation; at least that is what the myth had told. Even with its formation in question, the area provided an excellent landing pad for a Chinook.

It also, however, appeared to be a perfect site for an ambush. Keeping this unwieldy fact in mind, the group spread out amongst the treeline, hoping to notice an enemy force before entitling themselves to another firefight.

“Looks clear,” Sarge whispered.

“It always does before an ambush,” Terni remarked, giggling as he did.

Sarge was not amused. “Keep this up, school-girl, and I’ll give you a feminine giggle that’ll last the rest of your life.”

O’Neill sighed. “Snipers - stay here, make sure that we aren’t intercepted.”

The rest of the squad arranged into the predetermined formation before entering the field. The lanes of fire were excellent, should the battle occur. There was also very limited cover for the mercenaries should an attack occur.

As they approached the middle of the field, however, Sebastiao noticed something lying on the ground. It was a large white cloth, with cords connected along the edges…

It was a parachute.

“Whose is this?” The Jaguar asked.

Ironically, as if to answer his question, Reginald flipped around the parachute, revealing an emblem along it:

Before they could discuss the parachute, however, a light appeared along the horizon, slowly approaching from the distance.

The Chinook had arrived. The medical evac was here.

“Get the body ready,” Dr. Garcia ordered. “Miguell, Eduardo, get ready as well…”

“Meu filho,” Eduardo whimpered, feeling overpowered by the sheer weight of the personalities surrounding him.

The Chinook hovered in midair above the mercenaries, its large propellers echoing across the field. The sound was deafening.

“Back up!” O’Neill yelled as the Chinook prepared to land.

From over the treeline, however, a second helicopter disclosed itself, flying swiftly over the open terrain.

“Nice!” Andrew commented. “Now we can really blow these guerillas out of this jungle!”

“I didn’t hear anything about a second chopper…” Magnus muttered.

His fears were exponentially compounded when, as the second helicopter arrived on the scene, the Chinook took evasive maneuvers, just meters above where the mercenaries were standing.

It was not enough. The second helicopter fired two stinger missiles, which traveled with incredible speed across the open sky. The rockets slammed into the Chinook, which promptly exploded.

Rachel had time to scream only two words: “Get down!”

The Chinook disappeared in a mass of flame; the conflagration roared into the sky, sending a wave of heat down into the open field below. Luckily, the acceleration of the Chinook sent it flying away from the squad - it landed, accompanied by a second explosion, a few dozen meters away.

The second helicopter hovered for a single moment above the Chinook, its missiles and minigun aimed at the mercenary squad…

Seeing the Chinook destroyed, however, the helicopter rotated around and flew away, disappearing amongst the treetops in the distance.

"Damn it, I told you guys that we shouldn't bring in the helicopter. Now we are isolated in the middle of the jungle, and the enemy knows where we are. We have to get moving and hide, fast. Let the enemy come and investigate, we will ambush them, and perhaps capture one of them. We cannot keep on wandering around this jungle, we obviously are being watched."

Nigel grabbed his high powered radio.

"Emmanuel!, the copter has been attacked, it is down, whoever is here does not what us to find out what they are doing!"

"What the hell just happened!? What the HELL JUST HAPPENED?! That thing blew the Chinook out of the sky and then flew off like we were just some pests. Something ain't right. And that damn parachute. What, did Batman suddenly taking interest in dissapearing villagers too? I say we patch up our wounded, and then get somehwere hidden. The enemy probably expects us to go back to the mission, so I'm out of ideas."

This group we are facing is far more powerful than a drug lord... this has to an army or mercenary squad like us. Where did the attack helicopter come from? Which direction... did anyone see? (Dread if anyone saw, you could PM them or go ahead and list it on here)

It is unfortunate that our evac has been shot down, also does anyone know what the emblem says on the parachute? This could be the army we are facing.

Considering the power they brought forth in the ambush and helicopter attack, we are up against a force more powerful and stronger than us, and if we are to survive, we must resort to stealth and tricks. The jungle is a great place to set up traps and perhaps catch a live enemy soldier and figure out just what the hell is out there.

I heard the name Anaconda being mentioned during a conversation in Portuguese, though I have no idea what followed, but I have heard of Anaconda Soldiers during my stint in Iraq, these guys fought for America and helped local civilians. Now I doubt they came here, but I am sure they are similar but more gruesome.

Someone ask that native about the Anacondas, and clarify if it is really a group or if he just saw a snake. I believe the secret may lay in his abilities to tell us exactly what he knows. Personally I now feel we may be caught up in a war, not between drug lords or the government, but rebellion or even another nation warring with Brazil without Brazil's knowledge. It is the only way I can account for their power.

Lets withdraw to the jungle and discuss.

Two notes: The enemy helicopter followed your Chinook, which came from the east. Second, the emblem is a real life organization. I'll give a hint on what it is if you guys don't know it.

OOC: The letters look like some northern European language, and there is clearly a Batman symbol on it. To wikipedia!

"God dammit! I said NOT to call in for support. Now our helicopter and perhaps this mission is compromised. We need to move quickly, and evade whatever group is after us. I suggest we make our way south, as there may be enemies from the east and we were ambushed in the west.

It is the Russian Military Intelligence Service, no wonder America is interested.... this explains a lot.
