Dumb and Stupid Quotes Thread: Idiotic Source and Context are Key.

"Don’t let anybody tell you that it’s corporations and businesses that create jobs" - Hillary Clinton

The thread title is actually bang on crucial with this one.

Well, it's certainly a stupid quote, but presumably it's out of context?

Yeah, she went on to deride supply side economics, but it's a great quote for her opponents.

Well, you can make anyone sound dumb by selectively quoting what they say. For some people, of course, it needs a lot less work.

"Before Obamacare, there had never been a confirmed case of Ebola in the U.S."

Nick Muzin, Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor for Sen. Ted Cruz

WAKE UP SHEEPLES!

Obombyacare legitimazated a secret gubbamint DEATH PANEL that is systematically POISONING Afrikans and Ahmurikans with EBOLA on the orders of the Bilder-bedbug group and the Quadlateral Commission. Only the ONE TRUE MESSENGER TED CRUZ can save us from the UBER-RASIST policies of THANKS EBOLAMA. Seriously why does he want to kill Afrikans unless he is UBER-RASIST? Give $25 TODAY to TED CRUZ to spread OUR MESSAGE and TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!!!

CHEMTRAILS.

 I am gonna say though, as conspiracy theories go, the trilateral commission being a thing is certainly dodgy.

"Damn, baby, you're a piece of woman."
--Fox News co-host Bob Beckel commenting on Shoshana B. Roberts, in discussing her viral video about street harrassment, which shows her receiving 100 catcalls while walking through NYC for a day

"It's their bar, and she's walking through it."
-- co-host Greg Gutfield

Hm. Those NYers in that video are nasty/trash :( The woman did not wear something *that* out of the ordinary.
(then again it is not like we have the back angle, so who knows.. :O ).

"1. In particular, the State recognises that by her life within the home, woman gives to the State a support without which the common good cannot be achieved.
2. The State shall, therefore, endeavour to ensure that mothers shall not be obliged by economic necessity to engage in labour to the neglect of their duties in the home."
-Section 2, Article 41, Constitution of Ireland

^What is so dumb (or negative) about that? It does not state that the country will aim to keep women (mothers) from working if they want to. It just states that the country will try to ensure they do not have to work so as to sustain themselves/others.

If anything the issue would be only with an inferred tautology of 'good woman' and 'wife/mother', but i think the intention was not along those lines. The articles seem to be about economic legislation anyway ;)

I think ruminating on that question will be helpful for you the next time you post in a thread about feminism. Why would reinforcing traditional gender roles be detrimental?

I'm amazed there hasn't been any Todd Akin tier stuff this cycle, Republicans must have actually nominated some pretty gaffe-proof candidates(this does not make them GOOD candidates, obviously) if this is what we're reaching for around here.

Been thinking a bit about this one in the context of the Iowa Senate race. I think it is more the media narrative than the candidates actually being gaffe-prone or gaffe-proof.

"Despite your view -- and policies -- that government must lord over women, in keeping with radical liberalism, you have to fake support for our equal rights; so you do it in a militant sort of way to compensate for your confusion. On pretending to know what's best for us you've got nothing but a silent scream demanding, 'Hear me roar!'"

Sarah Palin on President Obama

That first clause is utter nonsense. Is this another case of "what the Bible says, clearly my enemies do too"?
