Dumb and Stupid Quotes Thread: Idiotic Source and Context are Key.

I think that goes without saying. Doesn't it?

Anyway, anybody doing research on the crime decline in NYC just give up now and find a new job. Question's settled forever.
"Before Giulaini crime was atrocious. Crack STILL existed after Jan. 1, 1994.

Aggressive policing using the broken windows theory was implemented.

Crime dropped precipitously.

Case closed"
-Eddie Burke NYC, comment on Beyond Broken Windows, The Atlantic

"My buddies said he saw y'all eatin' that sushi stuff
Baby, that don't sound like you, that don't sound like love
Sounds like it sucks."
-Justin Moore, Bait A Hook

some guy in the Paradox Forums-- stupid quotes by Erdogan said:
Yılmaz Özdil did a round-up of His greatest historical inventions, I'll translate:

"As Romanos Diogenes's soldiers attacked with batteries and round shots, Alparslan's soldiers attacked with the chants of Allah" - on the 1071 Battle of Manzikert, a few hundred years before batteries and round shots became a thing.

"They don't know the history of Istanbul, they wouldn't have the face to speak, you can't travel like Romanos Diogenes with a condensing lens" - Confusing the philosopher Diogenes with the afromentioned Byzantine Emperor; and also forgetting that Diogenes reportedly carried a lantern, not a lens.

"30 years of Suleiman I were spent on the horseback" - Suleiman I was on campaign for only ten years of his life, to fit this time frame, he would be forced to spend twenty more years in the palace on horseback.

"Ankara, the capital of Seljuks" - the capital of Seljuks was Konya, aka Iconium, not Ankara.

"The mountain that gives the Olympics its name is Olimpos at Antalya, the source of the Olympic torch is Çıralı there" - The mountain of Olympus is at Salonica, not Antalya; Olimpos at Antalya is not a mountain but a breeding ground for caretta caretta turles; the Olympic Torch tradition originates from Amsterdam in 1928.

He called the Mediterranean Sea "White Sea", because that's a literal translation from Turkish, even though White Sea is a completely different sea.

"The same way Germans have Goethe, the Spanish have Socrates" - clearly mixing him up with Cervantes.

The one about Romanos Diogenes and Diogenes the cynic, is awesome!!! :rotfl:

Gamers on Reddit being filthy casuals...no surprise there.

"I think he's an idiot.

Something we need to remember is we're not actually inside the game. We're playing from our living room or at our computer desk. Game makers have gotten great at immersion, but there's only so much they can do.

Eagle Vision and Detective Mode help us keep track of enemies in a three-dimensional world that we can only see through the window of our television. If some players think they're "elite" and don't need that tool, then good for them. I think it helps us, it's useful, and it serves a necessary purpose.

Goddamn video game snob."
-Chance4e, comment on Eagle Vision - Cheating?

This is Assassin's Creed, right? I honestly can't pretend to understand why that might or might not be a dumb quote. But it goes on...

Absolutely this.

We're not there. Can't see or here [sic] contextually, it's a display on a TV

As the average gamer gets older and has less time to be a "hardcore" gamer, some of us are looking for an immersive experience without the steepest of learning curves.

Games can look to perhaps remove things like Eagle Vision from the hardest settings, or use them in some of the ways the author mentioned. but overall? We're playing video games to escape, to experience something fun and beyond ourselves. If I wanted realism, I'd just do it myself.

Personally I like having to look for my enemies. I wonder if games in the future will just tell you where everything is without even having to toggle something on.

"I'm sure it's just one of Michelle's ancestors -- probably harmless."

prominent GOP activist Rusty DePass, on report that a gorilla had escaped from a Columbia, South Carolina zoo

*blink* Fractures in the GOP getting bigger? Surprising, even if he's not a tea partier (don't know the guy) to dog on Bachmann like that.

EDIT: :wallbash: He was referring to the First Lady, wasn't he? It just clicked. Dumb and stupid is being generous.

It goes on ...

"I am as sorry as I can be if I offended anyone," said DePass. "The comment was clearly in jest."

But, he said, "The comment was hers, not mine," referring to Michelle having said that man has descended from apes. The New York Daily News says they could find no such comment from Michelle -- but even if they could, it's not like that would make it any better.
What a dick.

Even for a Republican.

Tbh, Michelle does look somewhat dangerous.

I'll remember you of that Danish PM selfie ;) (don't make me post it, so steer away from comments about lookism or whatever  ).

Public Safety Announcement: when attempting to make an evolution "joke", make sure people know that's what you're referring to, rather than suggesting that someone (whether they be black, Democrat, or simply someone you dislike) is related to a gorilla.

But it is okay to say that to someone who is white.

There's not a longstanding body of racist humour comparing white people with apes. You would similarly be more circumspect about making a joke involving a shower about Ed Miliband.

To be fair, people never compared W to an ape anyway, so this is all just racism.

1.) Context matters.
2.) Depite Obama's ears, Bush looks much more like a chimp.
