Dumb and Stupid Quotes Thread: Idiotic Source and Context are Key.

For a bit of context, Maine has a very small minority population. As there are no large cities and so Blacks who went North after the Civil War mostly didn't go that far. Lack of jobs for them to take. A number of years ago there began to be a clustering of refugees there from Somalia. So a historically pretty much all white area now has a black African population. And these people, being refugees, have no education, skills, or even arrive not speaking English.

Lack of support kills Lewiston mayor’s proposal for online listing of welfare recipients

Macdonald also made an appearance over the weekend on “Fox and Friends Weekend,” a nationally televised program, in which he lamented a lack of support for his idea.

“What really hurts is that the legislators from Lewiston are basically stabbing me in the back,” he said on the program. “Every time I put (proposals) in, none of them support them and yet I’m overwhelmingly elected by the people up there and this is what they’ve elected me for.”

No. But that doesn't matter as much on the local political front as it does on the national anyways. Politicians who run for local office often pick a party if they think it can help them win a local election, rather than because they're entirely in tune with the national party leadership. Further, Maine is mostly rural, and Republicans are stronger in rural areas, for the most part. And Democrats are stronger in cities, for the most part. There is local variation. The mayor in question is a Republican. The current governor of Maine is a Republican (and Tea Party fanatic). Maine's federal legislators are evenly split between Republicans and not.

An online list doesn't help much unless you know somebody's name. It would be far more effective to make welfare recipients wear stickers or something.

Isn't Maine supposed to be a democratic party stronghold? (along with the rest of New England).

In addition to what Cutlass mentioned, there are independent candidates that can turn statewide races in Maine into tight three-way races where a moderate Democrat could win easily one-on-one. Kinda like Canada in that respect.

I think this comic is actually being serious. Gets way dumber when you really think about how Wally doesn't get fired despite his obvious and impressive devotion to not getting any work done.

^In most jobs most people are there just cause they at some point got accepted- often not for being actually skilled-, and it is the system to keep them as cronies as long as there is no need for drastic changes.

The thing about Wally is that he's useless, but he's not lazy. He's used that phrase. Being useless is actually his career goal. And he's been known to put a lot of work into being useless. How he gets away with it is that his pointy haired boss is even more useless and lazy, and stupid besides.

What's the dumb quote? From one of the characters? Are you calling the strip dumb for having a character like Wally? Or the strip done for how the characters talk in general?

So, who is looking forward to this becoming the Kevin McCarthy thread? I'm pretty sure that kid is dyslexic.
