I have no use, but I know a lot of folks were asking for this model... should prove a popular one.

It is a very nice job. It will be interesting to see how folks intend to implement this aircraft. Has anyone been able to incorporate tankers into a mod? The ability to conduct global airstrikes would certainly be interesting and this E-3 would ceratainly pass as a C-135/B-707 tanker with the radome removed.

The Tanker version would be the KC-135... I used to work on them back in the day.

Cheers for that, Xenomorph.
Any chance you'll be doing the teamcolor trick for the F8U too? :mischief:

The KC-135 is so OLD, Airbus A310 MRTT is better then it can be used to carry troops to :D and I think that it has longer range to like 2x. But if its just a re-skin of the 707 then the KC-135 might do

Why do you think the current AF director considers procuring a new tanker to be one of the air force's top priorities? A huge chunk of the KC-135 fleet isn't airworthy (along with large chunks of the entire fleet), and because of politics they can't even scrap them.

Well that was the point. While of course the C-135, which in the KC-135 formed the bulk of the USAF tanker force for much of the Cold War, is actually based of the Boeing Model 720 the difference between the 720 and the 707 (upon which the Sentry is based) is negligible for Civ purpose. Rub out the radome and supports and add a boom and presto, Stratotanker. If one wanted to be picky you could call it a KE-3 as operated by the Saudis.

Quite right... When I get round to using the E-3 in a mod it's going to be given a generic title like "AWACS" or "AEW"....

Personally I think a tanker would be a more useful addition than AEW&C aircraft. At least as far as a stand alone unit goes. The visual range of aircraft in civ is already beyond that of an AEW&C platform in the real world if you considers the scale in Civ. To make it viable as a standalone unit the visual ranges of all other aircraft would need to be pretty much reduced to 1 and the presence of the AEW&C unit would give the defending fighters opfire chances on approaching enemy air units. A similar setup could be used for a JSTARS type ground surveilance unit in conjunction with an opfire option for fighter on ground targets to allow for Close Air Support to units under attack by enemy ground forces.

Otherwise AEW&C should be a combined type unit (combine the E-3 graphic with a fighter graphic) which acts as a fighter but the E-3 confers additional intercept and combat strength bonuses.
